Uhh, watching those highlights (Yes, I understand they are just highlights), really surprised he never got any attention and stayed NAIA for 4 years. Averaged 25.5 pts. over his career, athletic, can handle the ball...and SHOOT! He would be a 1 and done per the free COVID year, correct?

    Player decisions

Well, that sucks...but life goes on. Wish him nothing but the best, and hope he succeeds at UVA. Who are we on in the portal to fill that hole?

Xavier Johnson - Commits to IU (PG)

Just saw that he committed via his instagram. Great pickup!

Xavier Johnson - Commits to IU (PG)

That team also had a 6'2 strong guard (Mitchell) who played 36 minutes with one of the highest motors I've seen. Not sure we have that on our team currently. Maybe Xavier can fill that role Also didn't hurt Baylor to have 4 other guards at 6'3, 6'3, 6'4 and 6'5 (again, Vital being listed a guard is funny) who shoot 41.6%, 43.4% and 39.5% from 3. If Rob and Lander can move to the 2 and shoot at those clips, look out Big Ten. I could see this working with Xavier at Point, Armaan at the 2 and Parker at the 3...but I'm just not seeing a fit for Rob if Xavier is going to be the primary ball handler. Unless Lander is going to accept a limited role.

Xavier Johnson - Commits to IU (PG)

In listening to Woodson describe his offense, Lander nor Rob really fit the mold to move to the 2. Lander is a pure PG, and Rob is 6'1 who shoot 26% from three last year (per espn). I guess if Franklin leaves, Xavier could shift, but has he played any 2 at Pitt?

Xavier Johnson - Commits to IU (PG)

Right, which would lead me to think Rob will enter his name into the portal. The interest and offer to Xavier has been there for some time, and Lander isn't recommitting if thinks he's going to be the third option. To be clear, I really hope that he doesn't, but I'm not sure how all 3 of them co-exist and get enough minutes to be happy.

Xavier Johnson - Commits to IU (PG)

My only question is...how do Rob and Lander fit into the equation with him coming on campus? One of the 3 will be the odd man out, and Rob nor Lander are moving to the 2 IMO....
  8. They are. Wendell Green Jr was a freshman all american, averaged 15.8 pts. and 5 assists (5'11). Johnson averaged 14.2 pts. and 5.7 assists (6'3).
  9. I haven't even seen a press release saying there will be a press conference. I know Osterman tweeted it, but no where on the Indiana twitter or main page.
  10. Is there a link for the press conference? I haven't seen anything.

May explain why we didn't "reach out".

Are you hoping he comes, breaking news he is coming?

I wonder how much of this (if not all of it) was Hunter starting to put the feelers out once Dolson told him Woody was the guy.
  14. Im almost certain I remember seeing Bill Comar on the bench during our games, who is our current associate AD for basketball. Unless there was another bald guy on staff I’m not aware of (Not Clif Marshall) Is this accurate?

    General Coach Candidate News

Off topic...but does anyone find it odd that Archie Miller hasn't released a statement yet? Pretty typical to release something, thanking the university, disappointed it didn't work, looking forward to find a new job to dive into and excited about the future. Are we sure he's even still alive? I understand being mad, but radio silent with other coaching jobs available seems like an odd strategy when hoping to land another gig.

    General Coach Candidate News

My question is, at what point do we need to have a coach in place, to ensure they can have a chance to pound the transfer market? My concern is we continue to drag this out, and miss the mark on the big transfers. Coaches are connecting with transfers, building relationships, and the last thing we want to do is be late to that party...if the IU players in the portal aren't wowed by the coach, and decide to transfer, we have to make sure we can field a freaking team.

    General Coach Candidate News

I've been of the same thinking for some time, until my confidence in the candidates (again, we know nothing...just a feeling) has started to shrink. If we are down to our 4th, 5th, 6th choice, I am absolutely okay with taking a flyer on someone like Calbert. Having head coaching experience isn't a fool proof indicator a coach will have success, see Archie Miller. Outside of Stevens, Beard, Drew...no one really gets me excited. Musselman is having a good run, but I think his personality would run its course quickly with staff, fans, etc. Oates isn't coming. I feel like todays basketball landscape is shifting towards players coaches, with solid assistant staff makeup that can help with the short falls the head coach may have. Calbert is a coach that can relate to these kids, and from all accounts he was loved by the guys at Indiana when he was here. I'm not saying Calbert is the answer, but if we are taking a flyer on a guy solely because he has been a "Head Coach", I'd rather try something different this go round. Although, I do think we go Beilein with fife, mike lewis, calbert in the waiting if we can't get a big fish. If Beilien says no, see above.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

I am honestly worried I am going to get fired haha. My productivity has never been lower.

Then say, “I’m not going to talk about that. I’m the coach of Texas tech, I’m focused on my team now, and in the future.” Or something like that. He just shot it down with an answer that only leads to more speculation, and probably more of a distraction for him and his team. ...if you aren’t interested, say you aren’t interested. But, just my opinion. LET ME LIVE A LITTLE CINCO!

The question was, “so if Indiana comes calling, it’s thanks but no thanks?” Seems to me like you could give another answer, removing yourself from the chatter if you aren’t interested.

Beard on CBS radio in regards to the IU job... ”I don’t talk about other jobs and I hope you respect that”... Seems like an interesting response...

I'm a simple man...can someone fill me in on what I am missing with this tweet? What does the Shrewsberry hire have to due with titus and stevens? Why would that be directly related? Did we reach out to Shrewsberry, but he chose penn state because we are potentially in talks with stevens that are progressing and he couldn't wait around?
