    IU Basketball News and Notes

This is really good to hear. I had heard a lot of rumblings about this, and even posted on it some. This is what strong leaders do!!!

    IUFB Offseason Updates

I think Bell is a very big fan from what I have been told...just not at QB. His move to WR is more than welcomed by the coaching staff, and he could end up being a force at this spot FWIW.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

It really is hard to state how big of a difference there is between CMW & Archie...Archie and his family were non-existent in the community, the news, hell the world, outside of a press conference. Didn't seem he ever bought in to IU culture, etc., or made an effort to put himself out there to further the university/program. He had one terrible commercial on TV, that's it. At least Crean loved IU and enjoyed being the face of the program. Woody is making IU Basketball cool again. And that's a really big deal for the trajectory of this program.

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Just saw the tweet...man, twitter truly brings out the idiots. Hopefully he read the positive comments and overlooked the negatives. With that said, legendary response to bring a highlight reel of him torching us in Assembly Hall haha. The more I think about it, I think he would be a big piece for us. I imagine him and X on the floor, pestering two key positions, creating chaos and feeding off each others energy. Defense creates offense, and if we can get out and run next year, it could be a lot of fun to watch.

I see a couple on here immediately with hard no's on Bates. I am not familiar with his story outside of high school, GPOY as a sophomore, all american and reclassifying to get to Memphis a year early. Looks like he avg. 9.7 points (38.6% shooting, 32.9% from long distance) and 3.3 rebounds a game last year, when he should of still been in high school. My initial reaction is, if a kid with that much talent wants to be in Bloomington, he would be hard to turn down, no? 6'9, athletic forward, former #1 recruit in his class. Not without need for improvement, but kid is touted as a premier talent. What specifically has people wanting us to pass if the option is there? Have seen ego, "not very good". Anyone have specifics on this kid?

(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA

Does this give us 13 scholarship players...if so, no one has to leave even if TJD comes back, right? Aren't we in communication with the shooter from West Virginia also? If either him or Dennis commit, and TJD doesn't come back, someone would still have to leave. If Dennis commits' and TJD comes back we need two to go?

(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA

I know Duncomb didn't play much last year, but was 67 in his class...still a lot of time to develop. But agree...hard to not be hopeful about that list, with some other pieces to be added.

Woody is the man.... I honestly don't know how you keep JHS off the floor. Malik is not far behind as well. I know they will be freshman, but these kids just started on the national prep championship team...not a team that won Sectionals in BFE Indiana (not addressing anyone in particular). If Bates and Duncomb can develop, Kaleb Banks grows his freshman year and Woody continues to add pieces to the 2023 class, especially JHS & MR's teammate...the next couple years are going to be really bright. Lots of top 100 kids filling this roster out.

Mike Davis’s son is transferring from Detroit Mercy for his 5th and final year. Sign me up. Kid can flat out score the basketball. Averaged 24 pts a game last year, which was third best in the country. Shot 38, 32, 37 & 37 percent from three in 4 seasons, with 3.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

    Next assistant coach

Currently live in Bloomington, and can confirm this has to be an old picture. Trees, grass etc. not nearly that green here yet. Interesting he would go into his archive to pull that picture out haha.
  11. I'm speechless....I cannot remember the last time we won a game like this. Feels good to finally get a win...unreal fight that second half.
  12. I stand by my comments that we need some major roster adjustments, but I will gladly eat my words if it means we win this darn thing and make the tourney. Please basketball gods.
  13. WHERE WAS THIS EFFORT FIRST HALF!!! A defensive minded lineup playing their ***** off.
  14. Going to get on my next call and yell at someone to take frustration out... Asked my daughter before the game if we were going to win, she said "No, we always lose"...6 years old and has the program figured out.
  15. We just aren't a good team...offense is unbearable, can't shoot...same stuff we have been discussing the entire season. As harsh as it is, we need serious roster turnover, and a lot of these guys to not come back. Great kids, no doubt...good basketball players, not so much. What's most noticeable IMO, is the body language just looks like they know they are going to lose.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

I completely forgot about him. Went from averaging 23 minutes a game as a redshirt freshman last year, to only 12 per game this year. And those 12 minutes are skewed by some early games and non conference. Most minutes in a big ten game this year is 14, with most below 10. What is the story there?

Completely forgot about him. Just looked up his stats for this year, averaging 13.5 pts, 6.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Sounds like we are making the most of the resources we have. We are the real life "This is fine" dog in a burning room gif.

But those guys don't freaking coach here (besides Hill)....if he really is going to them instead of his assistants, I don't blame them for leaving. Are these guys on an advisory type contract, or is he just reaching out as friends. Disappointing to hear this. Also, how much of a role is Matta having with the team? If he isn't listening to his assistants, assume he isn't listening to Matta either.

Yikes...the optics of Dane leaving after one season, after he left a very very good MSU gig to come home, would not be ideal. Losing Hunter and Fife would be a big blow. Who is he listening to if not his assistants? Is it an ego thing with CMW? Kenya and Dane have been around the block a time or two, and if he's only utilizing them for scouting/game plans and not in game, we've got a bigger problem than our offense. Also...Still don't understand why we didn't call a timeout prior to inbounding the ball with 5 seconds left to get a set drawn up. Was screaming at the tv.

Unfortunately, reports to the 'University' can get lost in the stack. I truly hope the coaching staff is aware, and they are getting this young man the help he needs. As someone who has come along side a partner battling life long depression, those words and thoughts on paper scream a cry for help, with immediate reach out and action warranted. Basketball is just a game, and this is a great reminder to all, including myself, of the pressure cooker these young men are in.

I have no issue with this. Waive, say thanks, walk off the floor. With all of the trash talking, gesturing (too small, guns after hitting threes, strong arm flex on and 1's, etc.), I'm surprised this doesn't happen more. Physical battles with a lot of disrespect occurs on the court during those 40 minutes, and emotions can, and often do, continue to run high after the clock stops...which bleeds into the hand shake line. I didn't realize people were so attached to the handshake line until reading comments on the twitterverse yesterday.

Honestly, if there is an angle of a UW Coach putting his hands on an opposing player...I'm not sure a 1-2 game suspension is enough. You cannot touch or hit other people, especially not a student athlete from an opposing school. I don't care about the circumstance. Being overlooked in all of this also is the players who threw punches. Both teams going to be without some guys for several games likely. Critical seeding and tournament implications. If the Big Ten wants to send a message, they would hit each teams coaches and players with some meaningful suspensions. Interested to see what happens.

Watched and read throughout the day yesterday...this whole thing is just sad. These are men, on both sides, being paid millions of dollars to be leaders, mentors and role models to these young men. How can you preach rising above in difficult situations when you cant even do it your darn self. I am in agreement with you that Gard should not have touched Howard, even if he was trying to explain himself after the comment Howard made. Gard should have let it go, kept it moving and also "remembered that" the next time they met. I'm sure there will also be discipline for Gard for the contact, and there should be. I think the issue is that this isn't Howard's first time in a situation like this. Additionally, after the initial altercation, Howard didn't even punch Gard. Gard had backed away, Howard was being held back, and then took an enraged swing at a separate UW Assistant. Some have claimed that the assistant who was hit put his hands on a Michigan player unprovoked. If someone has an angle of that would love to see it, and if this occurred, that assistant also needs to face stiff discipline, and even termination if warranted. Will also say...UW assistants running in to the skirmish talking crap, the UW assistant doing the "suck it" sign after the dust up to the UM side (WWE Style)...it is all so darn childish. If anyone on this board did even half of what occurred in our own workplaces, we would have our papers and be packing our cardboard boxes.
