How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

People seem to be focusing on just jerseys...but again, I also don't think this is 100% true. The overall gear, which includes uniforms, are one of the many small things that provide additional tools in helping recruit elite recruits. If you think they don't care what the uniforms, gear and overall swag looks like, we probably won't ever agree there, which is totally fine. Again, I am in no way arguing jerseys help 'win' games. But I think all of the small stuff does help attract the recruits we need which will then help us win games...And to be clear, I have admitted a couple times that I'm not sure how far we are off, truly. But I also want to turn every stone over to help Woody land the top recruits we are recruiting and getting to visit. To say something positive...I would note that I think social media is important to these kids and a tool they are utilizing constantly...IU Men's basketball Social Media Presence I think has drastically improved over the last couple years. I think there is still room to grow, but I am happy with some of the steps they have taken to increase and modernize posts. I'd like to even see more behind the scenes, player interviews, practice clips, highlighting facilities/resources, etc.

I hear you, but with NIL, Social Media, etc....I just don't think its that simple anymore. The other stuff matters more now than it ever has. The landscape of major college sports has changed and is continuing to change. You can dig your heels in and get left behind, or adapt.

Not trying to be cheeky. But by this comment, do you agree then that IU should do the things that Elite level recruits want, to attract them here, to improve our roster and have a team that can knock down those 3 balls? If the talent level we currently have on our roster isn't getting it done, what can we do to bring in better talent? I think that is the point people are trying to make...It is basic recruiting at any level in, any industry...You do everything you can to recruit elite talent and ensure you are competing with or exceeding your competition. If they are doing something that is allowing them to be more attractive, you better darn sure jump on the wagon.

How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

I hope that people don't think this is the main reason we aren't winning games...but I don't think anyone is actually saying that. I do however think there may be a valid case to be made that this is one of many examples of how we have fallen behind the programs that are actually Elite in college basketball today. And like many other things, this possibly gives us one less recruiting tool for the recruits we need to get us back to winning games and being Elite. The kids care, and if they care, so should our program. When you are actually Elite and leading the pack, you can choose the direction and set the trend...unfortunately, many feel that we are several cars back in the carpool and have to follow to either catchup, or get left behind. I still don't know truly how far we are behind in this arena. But yeah, well, that's just like, my opinion, man (favorite movie).

How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

I hear both sides of this, and think that there are definitely issues greater than our apparel that are holding us back..but I think there is definitely an argument to be made that in this day and age, the gear that is offered to the players, and the need to keep up with the major trends of college basketballs elite programs on this front is important to not only the players that we have, but the type of recruits that we must target to get us back to an elite program. If the elites weren't doing it, it would be a gimmick. But they are doing it, and I think kids care. Whether it should matter or not is irrelevant, because Kids these days care about fashion in the social media era that we are in. Jerseys, shoes, warm ups, sweats, etc. all matter to these kids. Heck..it even matters to alumni. I just saw a instagram video of an Auburn Alum now in the NBA, roasting the school for sending him a $29 alumni swag bag. He opened it in the locker room and a teammate posted the video saying "You should have gone to Alabama". Kids are seeing this stuff, and it matters. The arugment to be had IMO is not whether or not we should be doing it, but truly how far behind are we. I can't honestly answer that question.
  6. I agree, I want them to have fun, but not at the expense of playing hard and winning some darn games. It should be all business until they prove they have some darn grit…and can win games outside of Bloomington. Back to back nationally televised butt whoopings. 22 turnovers, 50 pts allowed in the paint…first 20+ pt loss as a ranked team since 2009. No fire, no leadership and no identity!
  7. Did we at least get to use some silly words in the press conference? All is well if we did. okay…I’m done now.
  8. You’d be joining us if you had watched the second half haha
  9. I had the chance to, but as several have said in here before…all you had to do was watch him in HS to know it would be hard for him to see the floor and get major minutes at this level. He’s Slow laterally, not overly athletic and just shoots the ball okay. He plays hard, was Mr. Basketball and is a really good kid that loves Indiana. If he’s okay with his spot, I’m okay with him being there and supporting this program.
  10. This went from bad, to worse. Looks like they have just quit. I really didn’t expect to see a Mike Woodson team do this. Makes me worry.
  11. 5 year old Daughter just told me I need to find another team to root for….”they never win” was her reason haha.
  12. No fire…no energy. Difficult place to win, but there a ton of Indiana fans there today… back to back nationally televised butt shopping’s is hard to stomach.
  13. If we are going to win we have to keep pushing tempo and get the ball out and run. Also, trayce bringing the ball up on the break has caused them issues a couple times. Keep doing that if he can remember guards are going to be diving to poke it loose.
  14. This is my only complaint…. Woody…get pissed! Chew these kids out. Try to snap them to life for gods sakes! They need to wake the heck up.
  15. I overlooked the Arizona game…but too many things repeating themselves game after game. I still think we have the chance to be a good team. But right now, we stink. This offense is putrid and defense has been lacking. Timid, soft, and a disappearing superstar.

Personally, I think if we had tossed in "Wings for Life" from Buffalouies, we could have moved the needle for him to stay. Maybe even an Eastside 'Chicken Corner' "Gold Member / VIP" card, for unlimited Chick Fil-A, Joella's and KFC...IU NIL if you are listening, this is free advice. Hopefully we tried to name a Burger after him at one of our restaurants. I actually still miss the 'Tom Crean and Crimson' burger from Opie Taylors.

The question will be is that enough to get anyone to sniff us. Surely the other Big Ten schools will be pitching the same thing. I think we need to land a QB in the portal to get some excitement around the program, and I am hopeful the OL coach is brining some baggage with him. This will be the last thing about Deion. I watched his tour of the Colorado facilities, and they were beautiful. Is there a video out there showing the IU facilities? I know others have said we are lacking and behind, but with recent upgrades truly how do we compare stack up with not only other Big Ten schools, but other conferences like the Pac12?

Deion has the cred with recruits and transfers to make this a viable option. He will likely be able to actually replace players with upgrades... I'm not sure what the sell is to get anyone to come to IU right now. Maybe, immediate playing time? But, if that is your draw, and you can't see the field elsewhere, will it really be an upgrade for us?

Apparently his dad p I think I read that his dad played with the current LB coach at Oklahoma....clear some conversation were already in the works.

    IUBB @ Rutgers - Saturday, 12/3/22 @ 4:00 on BTN

I still think this is a very good team, but a passive Trayce, half asleep Race and zero production from Galloway, Tamar and Geronimo is a recipe for disaster. Trayce is human, and he's going to have games where he's off, but our depth must be a factor in those games. Kopp was the only one who brought anything last game, and we still had a chance to cut it to 6 (missed TJD foul) late in the game and make a run. I hope I am wrong....but I don't foresee a ton of games where everyone but Kopp disappears and we don't have JHS.

That game was the perfect example of why the big 10 hasn’t won a title in forever. Classic Tackle basketball, Horrible calls. Long reviews that totally disrupt the game. The big ten is a long way off from modern basketball.

Trayce also getting bullied. This is pre big ten tournament last year Trayce. I’ll give the cliche “better for this to happen now than later” words of encouragement to keep everyone off the ledge haha.
