    Money where your mouth is

I have an older friend (heck I'm old) that is a returning "indiana snowbird" arriving back in town this week. I'm sure our first cup of coffee is going to go something like this:      "Mike, Mike, Mike, now tell me honestly, do you think back in the day that Coach (Knight) would have put up with this nonsense from his young men (not kids) for 1 minute?"      "Can you see Quinn, Isaiah or Alford, Coaches key leaders doing anything like that?  It's a sad time ain't it Mike?"       " Andy, in a way yes it is.  I can say that Coach was clear on the hot stove rule!  In the players you just mentioned the parents not known to baby their "kids" would also used a little KITA motivation as well!"

Should we stop recruiting five star centers?

I agree with Banksyrules and Bryan Medema on this as they make some strong points.  The question remains can the coaching staff develop a Kaminsky-type player?
  6. As an aside from the topic yet related, it is career enhancing for all of the IU athletic staff to keep folks like Mr. Cuban happy.   Patience will go another year at the most with bottom line oriented alumni like Cuban and others who are significant centers of influence at IU.

    It really happened

I have a friend that lives in Ky. never went to school there but the amount of FB Ky stuff, pics and team jivin to music and such was tremendous.  I stopped going to FB for several days for that reason.  However, today is pleasantly quiet and void of anything blue:)

    D'Angelo Russell from OSU

It seems to me recruiting has pretty much taken care of itself and as a result we were usually pleased with the results.  I don't remember such conjecture on the subject as I have for this upcoming team.    I just know from where I am in Northwest In many of the good Ind. high school players have bolstered the like of the 2 Michigan schools to name just 2 schools from all positions that we could have been using.  I for one don't care for the reaching all over the country to find a player to bring in for one year particularly if they do not understand IU basketball tradition or for that matter could care less about it.  In my book its not program building.

Some guy on ESPN was kind of dissing Crean tonight

The Syracuse zone and really the entire game has left the bitter taste of orange peel.
  14. Whatever, Coach Crean knows he has to pull out all stops and put on the full court press in regards to the Hoosier program next year.  I don't think he is looking down the road too far rather just get through next year with vast improvement even if it means only bringing in talent for one year players.  Not a way to "build" a program but he knows he has to save his hide!

Have a very Happy Birthday Coach!  Then tomorrow get back at the enormous job at hand of assembling the next Hoosier team.    Take some tips from the some of the coaching on display in the NCAA where I have been seein' some pretty good coaching so far.

    The Crossover w/ Victor Oladipo

I think all IU fans as well other fans miss at least what Vic brought to the game.  Just as an aide here, Dakich just said on his radio program that IU and Greenspan missed the boat back when they hired Mike Davis when they could have had Steve Alford.   Also, he just mentioned that Austin Etherington just asked for his release from the team.

    IU Fans sabotaging the coach

HoosierAloha first I want to say I enjoy the road to Hana when I am in Maui.   Wow tough question on how to win close games. Can we say just winning games period?  The parity and other factors most games these days seem to be < 10 points and much of that is padding a 3-4 point game with foul shots in the last minute.   I'm certainly no expert in coaching athletes but do know a thing or two about what it takes in other organizations shall we say. Ostensibly, the curriculum vitae should include basic fundamentals before you get in game time situations that you find yourself  knee high in alligators before you realize you need to drain the swamp!   To wit: educate players through communicating ideas and concepts, improve player technical abilities by applying your knowledge and skills, promote fair play, gain the trust of players, parents and fellow staff members, establish and outline realistic goals and objectives ie reduce costly turnovers, establish a conducive environment to continually learn and expect improvement, controlling practice and training in an organized effective and safe manner.  I'm sure Coach does these to the best of his abilities.   I think all of us agree that coaching is a daunting task.  Real effective leaders and coaches can truly make that "subtle" difference in winning and living to fight on another day.  From what I can see Coach Crean appears to have many of the successful traits ie.persona, good communication, open-minded, fairness and equality, approachable, organized, positive, responsible and reliable, disciplinarian manager and assists his young men in life planning.  Someway or another however, it just appears that there are road blocks he is facing in developing and maintaining the Hoosier Team ethos.

    IU Fans sabotaging the coach

Coach Crean has done a masterful job taking charge of the Hoosier program when it was at the bottom.  I would say he is quite good at recruiting but has had his share of busts as any coach probably has.   Also, he provided the leadership needed to turn the program around and has been the team's biggest cheerleader. Those are among Coach Crean's strengths.  To sustain a program takes a different skill set hence the frustration at his in-game strategy.    Being a good tactician at pushing through in the heat of the battle to close out a winner has proven not to be his strong suit.  I don't think anyone would debate that too vociferously.   Bottom line, many organizations bring in different leaders at different times depending on the style and technique of leadership needed.  Some are charged with kicking behind, clean house, attract talent and motivate.  Later after that mission has been accomplished it becomes necessary to adjust the leadership style by bringing a person with a different set of skills.  In this instant, to maintain the program as it is and offer the strategy to close out and win games.   This then is the question for the athletic director and others to ponder.  As fans we need to stick together through these tough times.  Many other university fan sights are as just as brutal if you will such as Kentucky yet the players recruited seem to be above all this and continue to sign up year after year for the Wildcats. In our case, it's because its Indiana after all.   This same fervor no doubt would have existed during down years as far back as Coach Knight's season on the brink days if social media would have existed then.

    Devil's Advocate: Indiana's Schedule

Folks should not hesitate one bit to let the athletic director know your thoughts about scheduling- the earlier your thoughts are conveyed the better in my opinion.
