To gave up 91 points albeit in OT which is 16 points more than the Hoyas average. We have 5 guys out there that can shoot the ball as the announcers say but defesively if Perea is having a good game or maybe Williams that's about it. Bottom line, without teachiing, practicing and then demanding better defense the die is cast I'm sorry to say.

Georgetown will be one of our toughest games.

I should think G.town Hoyas are in that same boat. -
Gregg Doyel Talks with Joani Crean...
colonel06 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
What is his major malfunction? I would be highly pissed if I were Crean and let him know in no uncertain terms that his family is off limits! -
Cal promises these wannbe pros lots of exposure and a great 1 year pro training camp. I'm sure education of the classroom variety is neither mentioned or hinted.

Post Game Thread (Butler vs IU) Hoosiers Win
colonel06 replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It was a good win because the Hoosiers found a way to tough it out at the end which is what the Big 10 season is going to be all about. The Hoosiers are finding they must get out of the 90 point comfort zone and dig out a smart victory with fewer total scored. I think Yogi in the second half realized the work it entails but James maybe not yet but he will. -
I can see by the last 5 minutes or so of the first half that when Butler tightened their defense we are pretty well paralyzed in the half court set. If we can't run and gun or fast break we aren't very good against better competition.

While not too practical, IU has precedent of several players doing this. Ever hear of Quinn Buckner?

IU vs Louisville Post Game Thread
colonel06 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Besides the height difference of our guys vs. Louisville the Hoosiers just look smaller built than the Louisville except maybe Yogi. I know they have a good strength program and coach but I think they need to hit the weight room more and develop both upper and lower body to compete under the basket. Our guys just get blow out of there it seems to me. -
Thoughts on changing our front court

Like an old SNL skit with C. Wlaken: " I got a fever baby and the only prescription is more cowbell (Holt). I wanna hear (see) more Holt baby!" -
Michigan took NJIT too lightly as weak defense and slow to react to the three ball. 3's were raining down as they hit 11coupled with their nearly perfect "A" game.

So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

It appeared to me that when the chess match was really on in the last 10-12 minutes that we were out coached. -
Thoughts on the Games in Indy Last Night

However, the KU fans still can't get over the "Wat Shot" and seems to be stuck squarely in their collective craws. -

IU AD Glass lays down the law on misbehaving basketball team
colonel06 replied to AZ Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Like the old saying goes, "It's too late to drain the swamp when you are *** - deep in alligators!" The AD should issue policy letters for the athletes based on the University stated position. The coach should then use those policies as the template for his "take charge" meeting every season....early in the "each" year. For the AD to come in and "lay down the law" is way out of the protocol for leadership in my opinion. -
He no doubt will be provided the very best care available. Its easy to take for granted but there is a tremendous financial cost being paid for his care now and going forward. Hopefully the University insurance programs will cover this regardless of circumstances, etc. The proiority in any case is to restore him to health in as short of time as possible.

IU vs Northwood Post-Game Thread
colonel06 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would not look for Davis the entire season with such a significant shock to his body to include possible brain and other trauma perhaps not yet fully discovered. It would take a leap of faith to think the medical team would give him clearnce for the rigors of Big 10 play. -
Not a player's perspective of course, however the expectations were more than well known if you were lucky enough to take the floor at assembly hall. There was a hunger to play at IU, a privilege to be recruited, a deep sense of gratiude for the honor to bust your butt and oh by the way, the fear of God if you screwed up while wearing the cream and crimson for Coach Knight.

In a way I feel sorry for him with the spoiled mama's kids these days that are also "handed" their candy stripes and "handed" full-ride scholarships.

I've recommended this site to my niece who is a junior at IU studying at Oxford for a semseter to keep current.

IU Basketball Team Dealing With Epidemic of Poor Choices by Players Who Should Know Better
colonel06 replied to DocLibby's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Nice thoughtful post for sure. Coach Crean's job should not be however, to "change character." That's all part of performing due dilligence in the recruiting process. That is what Indiana University basketball has stood for for decades if not longer. Should we not want to keep that high level and contiune to be the standard bearer for what is good with IU sports, specifically basketball? -
That's an assumption at this juncture you can rely on "you'll be kicked off the team and out of school." We did not have enough hot stove rules that got us to this point in my opinion.
-
It begs the question however, is the best thing long term for the young men and IU's reputation to see "how fast" we can get them back in the line up?
