OT: NCAA penalizes Syracuse and Boeheim

I'm surprised the NCAA had the backbone to do this. Not holding my breath about anything similar happening to UNC or UK.

Dan Dakich Show Recap - 3/6/15

Dakich does remind me more of RMK than anyone else around. Something about the way he delivers a line like "Goodbye, jackass." That is classic Knight stuff.

Dan Dakich Show Recap - 3/6/15

Dakich playing games with us today?   Has Alford been on yet?

    Potential fallout from coaching change

Don't PM me. I have no idea how that stuff works.

    Potential coaching change suggestions

Joani told my wife that she's more of a Nordstorms' gal. No Bobbi Brooks.   You heard it here first.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

My guess for Crean's next job would be Seton Hall.

    Potential coaching change suggestions

I can't listen to Dakich today. Post what is being said, please! Thanks.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

I think a Catholic university would be a good fit. I wish the Crean family well.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

I've also heard that Joani wants to leave Bloomington. Talk is that Crean will resign either for "family reasons" or to take a job elsewhere. Sounds plausible to me.

    Fred Glass.

It was an inappropriate remark for Glass to make. I'm glad he apologized.

    Fred Glass.

I agree. Crean's gone. Now we wait for the official announcement.   The way Glass discussed in detail how the buyout would be handled was very telling.

    Fred Glass.

Alaska, I'm disappointed that Glass didn't add "Have a nice day."

    Potential coaching change suggestions

If 87 knows something and IU is looking at a former Knight player, here are some possibilities:   Alford ( 87 says no) Calbert Crews Fife Woodson Wittman Smart Guyton Dakich ( don't think so ) Isiah ( also don't think so ) Damon ( love him but no ) Pat Knight ( are you kidding me? ) Quinn ( really busy selling granola ) Butch Carter   Have I forgotten anyone?   Edit: I am not advocating any of these guys as our next HC. Just listing them.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

Something I would like to retain from the Knight era is the tradition of IU teams playing tough DEFENSE!!! Please give us a coach who understands that.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

Speaking only for myself, I have some very good and some very bad memories of Knight. He is/was a brilliant basketball mind and teacher. He's also a deeply flawed person. Knight gave me the pleasure of watching the best IU basketball I've seen in my 50+ years as a fan. I'm extremely grateful to have been around to see his teams play. But he crossed the line too many times and he needed to go. I wouldn't want him back as IU's coach even if he were 20 years younger. His era is over. We need a fresh new start. That may be Brad Stevens ( my first choice ) or Archie Miller ( my choice if we go with a "hot" young guy ) or somebody else. But, hey, let me enjoy my good memories of Knight without implying that I can't be happy with anyone else.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

A zero tolerance policy might work with some coaches; it was never going to work with RMK. A nice, amicable break with IU was never going to happen either, no matter how IU handled it. That's not how Knight operates in the world.

    Potential fallout from coaching change

Knight cares deeply about IU but he's a bitter, proud, and stubborn man.

    In Tom Crean's Defense...

Fleek, could you be a bit more specific about what you don't like about Crean?

    In Tom Crean's Defense...

In Crean's defense, I think he can go on to have a successful coaching career some place. I don't know where.

Fleek, I saw those 247 posts about Yogi, too, and wondered if there was any truth to them. I certainly hope not.

    Potential coaching change suggestions

I love Steve Alford. Once upon a time, I wanted him to be RMK's successor but that time has passed.   I just hope he does a great job at UCLA. Any time one of our own has success coaching elsewhere, it reflects well on IU, IMO.

That wrist-slitting comment is really strange. Not what one would expect from a "smart lawyer".

Also of interest is the part of the interview where Glass explains why Crean's buyout is not as big an issue as some people think. ( I can't link or quote from my computer so maybe someone else could put that up. )   Edit: FortWayneHoosier posted it on another thread.
