McCollum has stated before that he wants to be at places that give him the opportunity to win at the top of his league.

I give you credit for making me aware of McCollum years ago. Good eyes you have there sir.

This is the problem with people setting their expectations on Brad Stevens. If there is anyone not named Brad Stevens but in the mold of Brad Stevens over the last decade, it’s Ben McCollum.

This isn’t a personal attack…. More of an indictment of our fanbase as a whole… but….. Who the hell do we think we are exactly? Last season Kentucky had to go WAYY down the list to eventually get an alumni. Kentucky! As much as we hate them, they are objectively a much better program in the eyes of everyone not wearing crimson and cream glasses. The Indiana job is a great job. Don’t get me wrong. But winning coaches from P4 schools don’t need a blueblood school to win championships. Nate Oats came from Buffalo. Fans on this site would have seizures if we hired Buffalo’s coach. But he’s turning out to be a potential all time great. He’s tracking anyways. Indiana would be LUCKY to land Ben McCollum. It would be the best hire since Bob Knight.

Respectfully, what does Drake being historically great have anything to do with what McCollum’s done this year? You just accused someone of minimizing Dusty’s accomplishments. Is this not doing the exact same thing? He had 1 player return from last year’s roster….. How exactly is Drake’s historical achievements helping him in that scenario? Indiana has won 5 national titles…How has that historical dominance worked out for Mike Davis, Tom Crean, Archie, and Woody? I love Dusty May. I think he’s an excellent coach. But I believe McCollum is a generational coach. His peers seem to agree with me. He can win at any level of basketball. When you say the the two are not comparable, I tend to agree. One is better imho and the other is Dusty May. Note: I have no idea how I jacked the formatting up this bad.

Generational. We will regret not getting this guy. Brad isn’t walking through that door.

Convenient that you’re leaving out the fact that he’s at the very top of his league in year 1 in Division 1. Also….. absolute mind numbing take saying you wish Cig never happened. Wild.

Good thing we have Cignetti as the newly minted face of the university. I’m not sure any hire we make will unseat him as such.

Always been on the McCollum train. I wrote a report on him back in December. That thing needs updated by the way.

My 10 year old son is a HUGE Celtics fan. He was born on St. Patty’s Day and has always been enamored with anything related….. Shamrocks, leprechauns, the color green, etc. His favorite basketball player is Larry Bird. He will sit and watch Bird highlights all night. He thinks he’s going to be “like Larry Bird but go to IU and stay this time.” The IU side of things is the only influence he gets from me, as I’m a Pacers fan through and through.

This always happens around coach hiring cycles. We get an influx of outside posters who are here to feed off of the info. When things don’t pan out they get vitriolic. That usually dies down early into the offseason and this site gets back to its original core of posters (+/- a few new faces) that get along just fine. just have to bite down on the leather for now.

Exactly how I see it. If we hire McDermott, I’d be pretty optimistic, overall.

I think we need to beat OSU by a good margin and yes, win 1-2 in the B1G tourney.

If they would switch Leal and Goode, they can throw the ball down in the post and kick out opposite wing to a wide open Goode as soon as the post double comes.

I’m worried that we will lose him to another NBA job or even the Butler job. If he would leave the Boston Celtics for IU, then I think it’s fair to say he could get the pull in another direction. I don’t see Brad as a 15-20 year guy.

Not disclosing information like this could have extremely damaging effects on the deal overall. If Brad knew he was leaving, those conversations would have had to have happened at this stage of the sale. Otherwise it could kill the entire deal. Not trying to sound pretentious here but I have some experience dealing with M&A. High profile acquisitions like this come with extreme due diligence. The buyers will want to have stability for the transition. Losing the league’s top front office executive may be perceived as potential instability. Unless the new owners have their own guy lined up, it’s likely they’ll want him to stay so things continue to run smoothly. None of this means “therefore he wouldn’t leave”. It just means that at this stage of the process, his intentions would have to be made clear. It can really complicate things.
