New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?
HoosierTrav replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
And yes I agree that this will cause some to be uneasy, but let's be honest; no matter who we bring in, someone will find a reason to bitch. -

I'm not giving up hope until another coach is announced. -

Of course they are but let's not sit here and crucify the guy over past mistakes. Especially mistakes that haven't resulted in vacated accomplishments. He seems to be in good standing with the NCAA for over a decade now. We aren't fresh off of a post Sampson debacle anymore. If we have a chance to take guys like Bill Self and we pass, then we'd deserve a lifetime of mediocrity. Can't think of one coach that's been squeaky clean. Even Coach K has dirt. -
So sad but true. I have to believe that the money is invested enough to want a contender. I have a hard time believing CSS, Ken Nunn, Cook, Mark Cuban, and others are willing to pour millions of dollars into a program that is losing and not filling the newly renovated Assembly Hall. The fan base has already proven, in the past, that they won't spend their money on a losing cause, and will help force the hand of the leadership. This will be the case here. Fans won't support and the money (revenue) will be impacted negatively. This situation is unique in its own right, IMO. I believe the fan base has reached a breaking point unlike the past circumstances (Davis & Sampson). Those instances we clamored for change and change alone. We acquiesced. This time the fan base is going away and staying away until the right hire is made. No more mistakes. No more risky hires, either ethically or performance based. I cannot remember the entire fanbase ever being so unanimous in their desire for one specific coach, (outside of Knight) like they are with Brad Stevens. It's almost as if, we are saying, in a way, that we aren't letting the leadership make the decisions anymore. The people are speaking and it's our way or we are gone. I really feel that way. Indiana basketball went through its darkest days post Sampson but now we are teetering on losing a large portion of longtime fans for good. I talk to some old timers that have been IU die hards for their entire lives and they are ready to pack it in. They are so sick and tired of watching people destroy our image as a power basketball program. It's so sad seeing how defeated they sound. We care so much about this program. We pour our hearts, souls, and dollars into supporting it. It hurts to watch something so massively important be dismantled by the few who are charged with leading it to success. I'm a sad fan right now. I'm embarrassed to be an Indiana fan. I feel shame wearing my gear out into public right now. Maybe that makes me less of a fan? I don't know. If it isn't fixed and fixed quick, I'm going to be focusing my passion elsewhere. Perhaps I've been the fool the whole time for being the one exerting far too much energy into something as silly as being a college basketball fan.

So true. I remember arguing with an extreme Lebron hater like 5 years ago. They claimed he wasn't the best in the league and that Rose was. I argued that the best player in the league often ends up in the NBA finals most seasons. The league is a players league and the best of the best continually shine. How many straight finals has Lebron been in?...... As long as he's healthy the eastern conference is his. Brad won't change that unless he gets a top 3 talent and a supporting cast to support him. Brad can, on the other hand, come to a place like Indiana and cement a far greater legacy without having to recruit the very best players. He can actually have a say in how high his ceiling can be. The college game is a coaches game and I'm not sure there are many willing to argue against that. The biggest obstacle in getting him to Bloomington is convincing his family (wife) that this is the best place for him. The best way to do that is to give him an enormous contract that is guaranteed for a longer than usual time period (10 years) We have to push all of our chips in the middle of the table here. We cannot afford any mistakes on this one.

You can add the D to his name. His teams play defense

I've been lost forever. Even if he were to miraculously make a final four this season, he has not given any proof that he can sustain even a small amount of success at a program where he has every resource at his disposal. The fact that numerous coaches are doing much more with far less, is all I need to see. Mid major Xavier University has experienced more sustained success than Indiana in the last decade. That's insane to me.

New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?
HoosierTrav replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The University can't appease everyone in the fan base unless they miraculously convince Brad a Stevens to take the job. If fans are upset with Bill Self, they can take a hike. Either way, it's never happening. Kansas is a stable blueblood, offering everything, if not more than what we offer. -
Some claiming to be close to the program have said before that he is insufferably controlling. If that's the case, it's completely feasible to get different schemes from the assistants.

New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?

Embiid was out during the tournament with a foot injury. Dude has 17 million straight conference titles, made multiple final fours , won a national title, and finished runner up. Not to mention his litter in Champaign was coached by an airhead to a runner up finish. Not sure what expectations you have, but I'd do God awful things to attain those results. -

Analysis: Where does Indiana Basketball go from here?
HoosierTrav replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's going to be settled no strings attached and be paid out over time. Get it over with. -
Love Dauster. Always insightful. Really understands how to break it down for the people who aren't necessarily able to readily identify what's happening on the court. At first glance, you think effort, but this is far more than effort. It's bad scheme that is sucking the hope out of players, causing them to throw in the towel.

Go ahead and disregard this. I didn't see it posted above

http://collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/2015/12/03/breaking-down-indianas-historically-bad-defense-and-why-their-seasons-at-a-crossroads/ This guy basically agrees that it's mostly confusion and chaos causing our defense to be as bad as it is. When I watch, I don't see lack of effort. I see young men having no idea what they are doing. Sad.

IU vs Duke Post Game Thread
HoosierTrav replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This is a great write up for all of you who actually think it's the players fault due to lack of effort on the court. It's 100% due to the spastic style. They have no idea what they are doing out there and it's not on them. -

Pastner is a joke. Win % comes from beating fluff teams. No chance in hell he should even get a phone interview.

Apathy is the worst thing that can happen to a programs fan base. We've been beaten into submission.

3 McD's AA's and a Jordan Brand All American 4/5 starters were HS AA's. If the next coach at Indiana is even somewhat proficient at in game coaching, he is going to RAKE with the talent he will be able to bring in.
-
I'm at that point already. Like last week. I can't believe I stayed up for that game. Gotta be up at 4. I knew it was gonna happen. That's what's sad.
-
I can't believe I did it but I did it. Sent him an email. Not spending another dime on anything Indiana Basketball until the brass shows they are going to make an effort to squeeze this fruit for all the juice it has. Indiana Basketball is capable of so so much more than this. Lots of people are getting paid a lot of money just to underperform. I'd be fired already. Instead I have to prepare daily, focus on the goal at hand, and EXECUTE in a high pressure environment, or I don't get paid and the babies don't get to have a comfortable life. Crean has made $20 Million dollars at Indiana. Makes me SICK!!!! I'm forever BTB tho

I say give them a chance with someone else coaching them.

[quote name="Hovadipo" post="219484" timestamp="1449116614"]I'm ready right now, but still thinking we need a clean break for sure. Tough to have that clean break with a mid-season fire.[/ He needs to agree to resign at seasons end as soon as he gets back or fire him midseason. His contracts buyout is nothing close to as bad as we think it is. It will be settled for a lesser amount and be spread out into payments over 5-10 years.
