Huber’s isn’t 77 miles from Btown. I’d guess it’s around 60, if that. Donations are the reason for that event not for a recruiting advantage. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I believe foreign "professionals" were approved by the NCAA because it was more of a club system than them truly being professional athletes. Their club systems are similar to how we do some club soccer systems we do in the US now.

If I’m the OSC for the respond I’m picking the “sniper” 10/10 times, damn a few people getting hurt hurt over it. It provides me further options should I have to make that awful call. I’m placing a “sniper” up there to protect everyone in that area. Could you imagine the outrage should something happen to protesters on campus from a third-party actor(s)? I don’t know the intel they had prior to the response but hopefully they’re deep in it now Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I thought the policy was to get approval 48 hours in advance to put up structures on campus and the reason tents are now approved to be up in Dunn Meadow? It seems like a pretty solid reinforcement of having your voice heard within the rules. -

The sniper on the rooftop cracks my **** up. The approvals the sniper would need before taking a shot into a crowd rules that objective out for anyone who knows anything about that. Having a few LEOs being able to provide real-time intel as to any movements towards the area is vital in that situation. They probably could have done it with a drone or a spotting scope but people flipping out about that is ignorant to large event security -

I’m wondering if, as some have suggested, it’s an oppressor v oppressed type deal why there hasn’t been an outrage against the PRC v the Uighur people where there is an actual genocide taking place. Is it too much to ask to free the hostages while asking to free Palestine? Is it appropriate that we ask for Palestine to be freed from Hamas who doesn’t give a damn about the Palestinian people and who has probably killed a massive number of Palestinians over the years? Let’s call for a ceasefire and pump a ton of aid into Gaza so Hamas can eat while others starve and their “leaders” can continue to get fat in Qatar. I’m all for a two state solution. However, somethings around the region needs to be cleaned up first. -
His daughter.. haha pretty sure that happened while at FC in the late 90s when he was already old as dirt. I believe he was suspended or forced out at FC in the early 2000s

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
HoosierAloha replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I've attempted to be consistent in using "if the right coach were available" in my posts. However, there is a risk/reward element to it. It feels we've been rather risk adverse for a number of years now. As long as Woody is mediocre, we'll continue to have Woody and the army of positive posters that inflate his "accomplishments." That's fine for some but I'd much rather cycle through a few Woody level coaches until we find one up to what should be our standard. -

Nowhere close to goals =/= failure Did we get close to winning the Big Ten regular season or tourney? Did we get close to winning a natty? Mike Woodson is a mediocre coach who got and kept the head coaching job because he played at IU decades ago. It wasn’t a serious hire. It’s possible for me to root and hope for IU to hang banners while understanding the above. I’m not telling anyone how they should root for their team. I do find it funny how some seem to have forgotten about the previous three years because we’ve cycled back to hanging a banner for winning the offseason.. again. Show me you can win something meaning besides an off-season bidding war with booster money. Understanding what doesn’t work, having the humility to admit it, and then working hard to correct would be a great start. After you reach a stated goal, do it again and again to prove you’re better than a mediocre coach. Until we get to that point I believe he’s earned his spot in the bottom half of the Big Ten coaching rankings. A good way to judge a coach is to imagine them coaching at a rival school. Would anyone be worried about Woody coaching at pUKe or purdoodoo? I know I’d be ecstatic in that scenario. -

I’d love for IU to hang multiple banners this coming season and I’d still move on if a coach I thought could lead this program was available. I’ve said from the beginning it’s not the W/L record but how you play the game. We didn’t make the corrections necessary from year 1 to year 2 and fell off a cliff in year 3. You greatly increase your chances by decreasing your mistakes. We look to increase our wins by increasing talent and ignoring all the fixable, fundamental mistakes (taking care of the ball, rebounding, free throws, etc.) while playing an outdated version of basketball. I trust Woody to be the coach that could lose with his players and turnaround and lose with the players who just beat him. He’s mediocre and can only win with talent. He’s not a coach who will win by scheme or motivation. The motivation part goes back much further than Woody. We need to have a standard for the coach at IU that’s higher than some affiliation decades ago. Until we set that standard we’ll continue to find reasons why a mediocre coach should remain the coach when we all know we need to move on. -

Imagine being in a “fire coach” thread defending a mediocre coach because he won the offseason… again. These threads don’t appear or continue when you actually meet or exceed expectations, I.e. you are a good coach. -

Why should next year be the judgement year? Shouldn’t every year be a judgement year? 1st - nowhere close to goals and off court embarrassment 2nd - nowhere close to goals and off court embarrassment 3rd - nowhere close to goals 4th - this is the judgement year..? -

Is Woody in the top half of Bg Ten coaches? He’s kind of followed the tradition of the last few decades with plenty of stars and little to nothing to show for it. It kind of feels like a Cal-Kensucky-lite situation with great individual talent that goes to the league but doesn’t do much for the program. We’ve been a pretty dumb program for awhile and that hasn’t changed under Woody despite the influx of talent (or not talent when we’re trying to excuse his bad coaching). He could go to a FF next year and if I could get the coach I want after I’d let him go. An overachieving year would be a nice change for once. My emotions couldn’t care less what Woody says to fans. He just needs to win and at a high level. My hope for this year is that a few players step up in the next few months as leaders because the coach isn’t leading them to anything. The argument for Woody being a good coach was winning a few more games with Miller’s (the worst IU coach by far the last couple of decades) players? That’s a really really low bar. I like the new transfer additions but now they’re going to have to work and Woody is going to have to coach them up. I’ll hold judgement about the 24-25 edition until they show what they’re about on the court. -

The whole sniper on the roof is overblown (shocking I know). You do that for a number of reasons but mainly for over watch and situational awareness. I highly doubt a round was chambered and the clearance the sniper would need to actually fire a round would be ridiculous. On top of that, the sniper could be there to ensure the safety of the protestors. This isn't uncommon at large events like parades and concerts. (I know this isn't time to use logic and I should have an emotional response that either sniper = bad or sniper = good) -

https://bloomingtonian.com/2024/04/26/letter-from-whitten-to-faculty-after-arrests-of-protesters-at-indiana-university/ Dear Faculty Colleagues, Since October 7th, we have successfully hosted dozens of rallies, protests and educational dialogues concerning highly controversial and deeply personal opinions regarding the events in the Middle East. Today there was a protest in Dunn Meadow that required us to balance our commitment to free speech activities with the need to ensure safety and security for our campus community. As an institution that vigorously upholds free speech, we actively protect the free and civil exchange of ideas, including peaceful protest, as many participated in today. Yesterday we became aware that a student group had announced a planned rally in Dunn Meadow with internal and external groups seeking to occupy the university space indefinitely through erection of tents and stockpiling of provisions for multiple days. In reviewing guidance from a 1969 Board of Trustees policy, there was a provision that stated that tents would need to be removed at 11 pm in compliance with university policy that prohibits overnight campus ground occupation. This same policy includes a clear provision that the provost can pull together an ad hoc committee at any time to address specific changes that may be needed to the policy. Last night, the provost charged this committee to make recommendations that would best enable us to balance free speech and safety in the context of similar protests occurring nationally. The committee affirmed the right of peaceful protest, with the additional recommendation that temporary or permanent installation of structures in Dunn Meadow (including, but not limited to posters, tents, etc.) at any time must be approved in advance by the university and, if approved, adhere to the guidelines provided by the university. The change was posted online and at Dunn Meadow this morning, and participants were told repeatedly that they were free to stay and protest, but that any tent would need to be dismantled. Given the expectation of a high number of external participants, Indiana State Police was brought in as a law enforcement partner. Once prohibited structures were removed, the protests continued peacefully and, in fact, are continuing at the time of this writing. As we watched similar events unfold on numerous campuses around the country and prepared for today’s rally, we thoughtfully considered the best course of action for IU with the safety of our community being foundational to our decision. We know that not all will agree with the course of action, but this was made through careful deliberation. Our university must create space for meaningful dialogue, while ensuring that our campus is safe and welcoming to all, and that peaceful protest, as many experienced today, symbolizes our steadfastness to the free expression of ideas. Sincerely, Pamela Whitten, President of Indiana University Rahul Shrivastav, Executive Vice President and Provost, IU Bloomington -

This should be year 1, not year 4, type stuff but I’ll be looking for leadership, the off-season work they put in this summer, and the dreaded e and e to begin the season. This might be as telling as any shooting % any individual or team total they put up this season. Is the attitude closer one of cohesion and battling for each other with a few leaders stepping forward or are we playing “Easy like a Sunday morning” style Woody ball again? -

It’s amazing how much closer you are on specific policy if “left” and “right” are removed from the discussion. Starting a discussion understanding the common ground of basic principles you share with the “other side” can be incredibly helpful in understanding the slight differences you might have on certain issues. A majority of the political problems we currently face are due to a lack of communication. Checking your ego, choosing humility, and understanding triggers that turn you into an emotional wreck are important. I think we can all agree life is precious and the taking of innocent life is immoral. Likewise, rules are in place for a reason. We can choose to break them but must deal with the consequences when caught. -

93% of those who voted which is probably ~30% of those eligible to vote which is around 26% of the faculty wanting her gone. There would be plenty of public figures thrilled with only having 26% wanting them out of office. -

How much of that usage was tossing it into the post and letting him go to work vs. movement to get him an advantage to score? If we toss the ball into the post and stand around for another season we won’t be near as successful as we could be. -
Stumbled across the triple crown at Sunset driving up the windward shore while exploring the island my first few months living there. I would highly recommend visiting a surfing event if you get the chance. I love surfing but the north shore swells are a different animal. The biggest I’ve surfed were ~12’ waves on the south shore during summer swells and that is considered small in winter on the north shore.
