The buyout is 7 million dollars less next year. If you don't think that's an issue, idk what to tell you. Sure, IU can probably get the money but that comes with using a lot of your political capital. I honestly see your second statement I bolded as more pessimistic/fatalistic than based in any reality. Current coaches have contracts, committed recruits, families- lives. Could next years coaching pool be worse? Sure could. Could it be better? Sure could. If it's right this year go for it but if it doesn't I'd say it makes "zero sense" to make a change to make a change.

You both think Archie isn't the answer and needs to go. I'm saying I get that. What you both fail to acknowledge is who you're bringing in to replace him and the realities of that move. I think this is the fork in the road where the reality and the fanatical splits.

I understand you're venting and don't like the current direction of the program. I get that. I just think you may have missed my point. My point was...would you like to have another Archie hire w another 3, 4, 5 year delay? I'm just saying you need to make the right hire when the landscape is right not convenient

I can tell you most would agree here that in most industries "rushing" or "forcing" it w regards to employment is generally a bad practice. Which is the "correct" approach to this situation? I don't live in Indiana... I don't live in the "fishbowl" I hear about all the time. I know more people on the east coast. Maybe IU basketball doesn't sell on national radio talk but I can tell you it does where it matters which is in basketball circles

I honestly don't think IU makes the move this year. That's some of what I've heard, some of what I know about the AD(department, not director), some about the current economic situation blah blah blah. Anyways, I'm just going on a hypothetical from the rest of this post on out. Here is what I WOULD do...not what is going to happen...Someone asked what my list would be and i'd say a mix between ideally and realistically... Stevens, Donovan, Bennett...unrealistic. I would try for a Matta or Beilein and hire a top "emerging" candidate as assistant. Matta/Beilein stable things, 2-3 years, hire the up-and-comer the agreed assurance that if they meet certain marks individually they get first consideration for HC. Solid coaches w upside, methinks, would take that opportunity. IU is more of a monster waiting to be unchained than some of you have been beaten down to believe, imo.

Definitely not taking this as combative, as you mentioned. Good questions, I'll answer what I do know. I do agree it's not the best time/optics. Unfortunately, the other option is worse. Select a guy you aren't feeling for sure, hire him, pay the buy-out on CAM, pay the salary. Not invest in a program that makes more than 2.5x the storied basketball program. Be back where you're at right now 4 years from now. I get why everyone is looking for a change, I think you do have to consider the flip of the coin and not just next year. Fans do make a difference. Donors make more of a difference. TV deals...mwah. Archie Miller, Tom Allen and Scott Dolson took paycuts...

I mean, look...I don't get minute by minute info. I try not to have to seek it out so much. This whole thing with the Executive Session, idk to me means not a whole lot. Last I heard there were calls being made and, frankly, I would expect no less. Are they back channeling? Probably should be so I would assume. I'll try to get some info but gotta say it's always better when it just comes to me rather than fishing

I think it's definitely up in the air. The situation is pretty complicated, honestly. People like donors, BOT, Athletic Department are in a lot of unprecedented ground with COVID. A lot of the donors probably made out okay and positive through it. I can think of one I've been to games with who I KNOW is struggling. Some of you may know who I'm talking about. I forget that poster who I assume got banned bc he was a pain to some but I know we had convos about this donor. Add in IU is currently searching for a new President which takes some precedent. McRobbie cared nothing about athletics, which whatever I'm cool w a hands off President in that regard but was a bit a a handcuff at times. People will combat the COVID stuff by saying "look what we just did for Tom Allen and the football program, and we're a basketball school." Check out the financials and return there and it's obviously worth it to invest in the FB program. Anyways, to say that COVID doesn't play a role, what it did for revenue streams and uncertainty going forward (things are looking up but still) it's not your standard situation. I get that "IU can find the money." Sure, is the candidate out there you want or do we fire/hire due to public pressure? No, lol, there is power in numbers but that isn't exactly how this country works unfortunately. Like I said, Dolson will make his calls. To say they're moving on solely due to W/L is naive

I do think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves with the lists. I said I knew of calls being made which is essentially saying Dolson is doing his due diligence. I guess this is also a worthy topic on a message board so carry on...I have zero info about a realistic list outside of the speculative/logical options I've seen posted here

Missed this. Sure, IU back channels to agents. But for the most part it remains agents- but better believe those agents have a feel for where their client is at. My assumption is it remains that way due to the coaching fraternity and it's kinda unwritten rules. So, yeah, donors aren't going in completely blind- and will sure let their opinion be known as they cut any type of check.

Just that Dolson has been making calls to alums/boosters regarding money. I reached out to a family member who received that call and confirmed others have. I still have some hooks in the water so when I hear back- if it's anything interesting- I'll get it to you
