IUBB @ Michigan State - 02/12/22 @ 3:30 on Fox-TV
jk34 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Thank you for proving my point. Some of us older fans, who've witnessed 3 NC, are just as frustrated as anyone. But comparing the past(good or bad) is short sighted. If Woody is not successful in the next few years,we'll go back to the drawing board. When CBK suspended players, did it mean players weren't buying into their leader? We all want the same thing for this program, but "fans" (not you)coming on here and saying this coach is not the answer 3/4 of the way through his first season, is a little unrealistic. Players and parents (current and future) might be lurking on BTB. -

Read the reactions of recruits and their parents. I believe people are buying into our leader and vision, for our future. Taking over a business the first year, is about evaluating the talent(or lack thereof), and making the proper personnel decisions for the future. -

Of all people, you being concerned with the "smarts" of our fan base, is laughable! Calling out someone's intelligence, for stating our record is better than the previous year, is something maybe you should be more "concerned" about! -

Those are yellow flags, at best. Year one of taking over a business, is about evaluating talent, and deciding who contributes(and who doesn't), to your vision moving forward. "People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.” I see 3-4 players, on the current roster, who might resemble what Woody's vision is for our future. -

You play who's on the schedule! Maybe, just maybe, we have some guys on this team who've hit their ceiling. Turnovers are a big improvement. The lack of shooters, and guys who can break down a defense, are severely lacking on this team. Woody's scheme is not set up for slow footed shooters, who can't create space, or turn the corner on a P&R. Don't know if Woody's the answer, but damn, give the IU legend a chance to turn this thing around. -

Is there anything about IU basketball that meets your standards? You asked for some improvement, then you move the goalposts. We have 2 pg recruits, who could step in right now, and make this team, at least more consistent. Whether Woody is the answer, or not, trust me, he cares way more than you or I, about getting this program back to where we want. -

12-15 to 16-8 so far, is not "some" improvement? -

We'll have a top rated pg running the show, from day one. Addition by subtraction, with the others, most likely leaving. I wouldn't bet the farm, on either of the bigs leaving, either. -

Please explain what your definition of reality is. A coach, 3/4 of the way through his first year, is going on his second consecutive season of missing the tournament? I'll give you a hint: Not good math! -

Another amazing stat!

I endorse this message! Absolutely average, at best, point guards. I would take either pg we have committed, right now. Regardless of their age.
-
So, you're expecting all of this in year one? Don't disagree with your take, however, history has shown us, that a legit pg, can take you places. No leadership at this position, whatsoever. People saying X is an upgrade, to what we've recently had, is not a great endorsement. Consistency, effort, and improvement throughout the season, is all I'm hoping to see this year. Both on the bench, and on the court.
-
Agree, he's our best option
-
It's pretty simple. No reason to over analyze what our problems are. The pg is the most important position in basketball, and we have mediocre/bad pg play. Woody went out and recruited 2 potentially good to great pg's. I'll wait to start over analyzing our staff and play, until we get a conductor to drive the train.
-
Pretty simple! My wife barely watches the games, but she even said "our point guards are killing us".

A point guard!

Difference maker! Watching Woody coach from the sidelines on the play where TG drove at the end of the shot clock, was great coaching. Spread the the floor, get it in his hands, TJD high ball screen, and let Trey make the play. Taking advantage of the mismatch. TRUST
