Juwan's performance tonight reminded me of Steve Downing and D.J. White playing one-legged basketball and still starring. That's pretty good company there.

(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State

I just looked at the schedule Blackford plays. Several teams from my home high school's (Union Rockets, Modoc, Indiana, roughly 200 kids in 4 grades) conference (MEC), including Randolph Southern, Monroe Central and Muncie Burris. Never in all my years of watching basketball at that level (including years working for a newspaper in Richmond and covering such games) did I ever see a D1 player emerge from a small school. There was one exception when I moved to Bloomington and covered a game against a school called Springs Valley. They had a kid named Larry Bird. He wasn't overly impressive when I saw him but he was okay. At the time I think he was maybe 6-3 or 6-4. The point is this Brown boy could be another Grant Gelon. I don't want to think so because I'd love to see some kid from down in the boondocks make it on the big stage. And coming from a similar place, despite my reservations I'm cheering for him big-time

  11. Considering where Swanigan (as the best college upperclassman) and Melo Trimble fit into the last draft, I feel sure JuMo (who isn't close to Swanigan's numbers or, frankly, anywhere near Trimble's leadership ability) will come back for his senior year. Like others on here, I think putting his name in the draft and perhaps going through the combine would be a smart move, but I don't think he's one of the Top 60 pro prospects in the country, and unless you're sure you're going to get drafted, it's not smart to gamble. If he was 6-10 that would be one thing, but he isn't. And there are a ton of incredible freshmen (which the NBA seems to prefer...maybe they'd take Justin Smith over Juwan) again in this year's class. 2 or 3 MSU guys (Bridges and Jackson for sure if they declare), Bates-Diop from OSU, maybe Vince Edwards or Matt Haarms from Purdue, Wagner from Michigan might get drafted, but I don't see a lot of B1G talent coveted by the NBA. Even Isaac Haas, two decades ago a shoo-in when back-to-the-basket centers were still in vogue, probably won't get more than a Blackmon-type free-agent offer after the draft.

    DE' RON DAVIS INJURY UPDATES

I fully expect the three-guard rotation plus Hartman and Morgan to be the regular lineup until someone steps up. McSwain might start Saturday to send a message to Lynch that it's not a free lunch on the boards, but I think Hartman deserves the start after Wisky. I fully expect to see Justin embrace this opportunity for PT. We can only hope Moore has more than we've seen because we're going to be seeing "more" of him. Like most everyone else on here, I: a) feel very bad for a young man with a lot of tools; could this have happened weeks ago (after Duke) and be the reason for his ineffectiveness since then? That would say a lot more positive things about the kid than we've been saying lately if he's been playing hurt. b) welcome the opportunity to see how this team reacts to losing him...not just the guys who will get more playing time, but the attitude of the others, with a new catalyst to "come together" much like the Blackmon injury two years ago. Honestly I don't expect us to go on a great run, but this could be the attention-getter Archie needs to get this team to play their hearts out.

    Race Thompson/DDavis

He's NOT unathletic. He has great soft hands, and when he wants to, he can turn on the speed. His vertical is decent, too...when he exerts himself. He lacks moxie, which may have rubbed off on him from some of the rest of the ragamuffins or might be his natural tendency.

    McRoberts

I think it's time IU recognized McRoberts's contributions and awarded him Curtis Jones's scholarship for next year. We already have a fat cast of recruits for next year (with one opening beyond Jones's scholarship reserved for Romeo plus Race coming off the redshirt list), and McRoberts is a senior next year so we'd still have that scholarship for 2019. IMO it's the right thing to do.

    McRoberts

We have two open scholarships with Jones's departure, one we hold open in case Romeo chooses us. Yes, the second from a practical standpoint should be held' open in the event of a transfer or another one-and-done (along with Romeo) comes along. There are several high-ranked recruits still out there. On the other hand, 2019-20 appears to be a good class, and if we use up all our scholarships this coming year and nobody leaves after one year, Morgan is our only graduate and we have the ugly possibility of someone getting "Millered" (if that's the term we're going to use to replace "Creaned"). By allocating Curtis's scholarship to McRoberts, we are assured of two players (JuMo and McBob) graduating next year (or at least using up their eligibility). To not do so does give us more options, and I understand that. But given his contribution, I think it would be a good gesture on our part and "the right thing to do." This is just my opinion, but I stand by it.

    McRoberts

I agree, again, that your solution is the more practical. It certainly is not impossible we'll get a couple of one-and-done guys late in the game or have a senior transfer in next year. Still, if it were up to me, I'd go ahead and do it and send a message that if you walk on at IU, you CAN earn your way to a scholarship.

    McRoberts

Your proposal is more practical than mine, but why we would choose to recruit two more players for next year with the four we already have signed plus Race coming in as a redshirt freshman is beyond me. With only JuMo and McRoberts graduating next year, and the pool of talent available for 2019-2020, I think to go ahead and pull the trigger makes sense. We reward the young man for his hard work and we still have the scholarship available after next year. How much money his brother has doesn't fit in the equation IMO.
