(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Stuhoo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well heck...the fact that he re-tweeted it gives it some modicum of credibility in my book. Hard to figure out 16 year olds, but apparently is a reasonable clue as to which programs he's leaning toward. Can't see NC State, Vandy, or Purdddooo. That gives a set of seven most likely contenders. If UL and UNC get nuked by the NCAA... if UCLA and Kansas are too far from home... That leaves us, UK, and Dukey! -

Zach Osterman re-tweeted this top ten list from a guy named Julius Kim from "phenomhoopsreport". An hour or two later, Kim had a follow up tweet where he basically admitted he didn't know what the hell he was talking about: Julius Kim @JKim97 1h1 hour ago That Romeo Langford edit is NOT his final list. -

Kind of an early top ten for a top five player, eh? Also notable that we're the only B1G school in the mix (unless you count Purdoo). Edit: I'm not seeing where he's listed his top ten. Source? -
(2017) SF Kris Wilkes to UCLA
Stuhoo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
From 2013...This, plus a good relationship between CTC and Mike Peterson? I'm speculating; I can't see him out of family close distance...that narrows it to us and Xavier - He'll be a Hoosier: Lethal 2017 guard/forward Kris Wilkes receives IU offer Jordan Littman 08/24/2013 7:30 am in Recruiting When Indy Hoosiers AAU coach Mike Peterson speaks about 2017 guard/forward Kris Wilkes, one of the first words he mentions is “lethal.” No, it is not a direct reference to his game on the court, where Wilkes is a 6-foot-6 freshman at North Central that received an Indiana offer on Friday and has interest from Purdue, Xavier and Memphis. His “lethal” status comes from taekwondo, a sport in which Wilkes is a black belt. As untraditional as it seems — Peterson is quick to mention Wilkes is not your typical basketball recruit — it’s all part of the equation of how Wilkes is beginning his high school career with a hot start. “He could show you some stuff, but he has a very strong core,” Peterson told Inside the Hall Friday evening. “You never find Kris on the ground because he’s so strong with his body and his balance.” And there’s no arguing that work has helped him on the court, too. Earlier this month, Wilkes was named the Most Valuable Player of the CrossRoads Elite 125 National Camp (highlights from that camp are posted below) in Nashville, Tenn. The event featured some of the top talent in the country’s 2017 and 2018 classes. For those who don’t know him yet, Peterson said it won’t take much longer. “Kris’s heart and tenacity on the floor, man, is just out of this world,” Peterson said. “I’m telling you, with his skill, I can play him anywhere from the 1 to the 5. He can bring the ball up the floor. Where he lacks right now is a consistent outside jump shot, but that is going to come if he continues to shoot and work on that part of his game. “Other than that, he doesn’t have a weakness. He rebounds, he spins, he can go to the bucket.” Wilkes’ athletic abilities only make up half the story behind his success, though. Each Sunday, his extended family meets at his grandmother’s house, where she cooks everyone dinner. Even from a young age, Wilkes learned the importance of family, education, church and being respectful. His father has kept him enrolled in martial arts classes to gain strength, focus and work ethic. He also has played the bass in orchestra. “His family needs to be mentioned. He has an awesome family, from his dad, to his uncles, to his grandmother,” Peterson said. “Kris always looks the part and talks the part. It’s because of his family background.” As his college recruitment takes off, Wilkes intends to not lose sight of what’s close. During an unofficial visit to Indiana on Friday, where he played a pick-up game with Yogi Ferrell and No. 2 NBA draft pick Victor Oladipo and got a campus tour from head coach Tom Crean, Wilkes was offered a scholarship. Afterward, when Peterson called to ask how it went, Wilkes “was giggling ear to ear. He loves IU.” Wilkes now is the third member from his AAU team to get a scholarship offer from Indiana, joining 2017 recruits Southport guard Paul Scruggs and Hamilton Southeastern forward Zach Gunn. Peterson noted those offers “could play a big part in the future. They may all want to stay and play together.” College indeed is far in the future for Wilkes. He only is three weeks into his freshman year of high school, after all. But that hasn’t stopped Peterson from singing his praises. From taekwondo, to orchestra and to the basketball court, Wilkes has diversified himself into a star. Peterson, however, summed it up in layman’s terms. “He does it all.” -

He can leave after two years and still get a degree. Two full school school years +3 years of summer school gets him reasonably close. Cody Zeller has made it happen. -

(2017) PF/C - Brandon Huffman to North Carolina

Hey all; I'm not saying that Hufman can or can't be a big get; I haven't seen him play. BUT, we all pretty much agree that if Gak and Bamba both go Duke (fairly likely) and Richards goes UK, we still need a big or two for '17. I'm trusting that CTC and Chuck can tell when a kid has got what it takes. ALSO:From a 247 article. Doesn't sound like a "backup plan" guy to me. Sounds like a player who's being noticed by the big boys: "The Hoosiers join a crowded list of offers for the 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward. Baylor, Connecticut, Georgia, LSU, New Mexico, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, VCU and others have offered Huffman, and North Carolina has also been involved. (2017) PF/C - Brandon Huffman to North Carolina

Well shoot...that depends on how good Brandon Huffman is! Is he Bawa, or is he Yante Maten? CTC outsmarts himself now and then, but he regularly identifies players with extremely high ceilings. -
(2017) PF/C - Brandon Huffman to North Carolina

Here is everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that one might want to know about Brandon Huffman: Brandon Huffman is gaining attention after leaving Alaska. Brandon Huffman was a successful and well-known High School Basketball star in West Anchorage, Alaska. Huffman moved back to the Lower 48 States and chose to attend Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is not like Huffman is not used to bouncing all across the country, like many military brats, he is accustomed to moving to different cities every few years. Huffman received even more attention playing alongside Queens native Rawle Atkins. Huffman is a physically imposing Power Forward with an impressive offer list. Brandon Huffman: Basic Facts Height: 6’9″ Weight: 240 pounds Hometown: Anchorage, Alaska (now Raleigh, North Carolina) High School: Word of God Christian Academy (stats) AAU Squad: Team Loaded (Adidas Uprising) Position: Center Huffman was named to the 2016 Adidas Eurocamp U.S. Select Team that would play in Treviso, Italy. Unfortunately, there are no sources with an adequate amount of data concerning his playing stats as the sample sizes are far too small. What the Recruiting Services and Analysts are saying about Brandon Huffman: For the sad, pathetic star fetishists who only care about star ratings and consider them the end all, be all… One can imagine the reaction from the fetishists… “Oh no, he’s no good!!! He’s a scrub. Rivals and ESPN don’t know who he is! Why are we offering this guy?” Ignore the star fetishists. They do not know what they are talking about and still use the phrase “coach ’em up”. The Recruiting Horserace for Brandon Huffman Brandon Huffman has offers from the following schools: Washington State Georgia USC Rutgers New Mexico Charlotte VCU South Carolina Baylor Ole Miss Kansas State Tennessee Rhode Island Utah State Xavier Memphis Huffman commented on his recruitment process letting media members know that he was not going to rush into any decision. As for what Huffman is looking for in a post-secondary educational experience as a student-athlete: Huffman commented on his game as well… Huffman does not to be leaning in any direction at the moment and he certainly is going to take advantage of his five official visits and take regional unofficial visits as well. It is possible that Georgia gets an unofficial visit from Huffman considering that Raleigh is only five and a half hours away from Athens. When the race narrows, then the handicapping may begin, but it is currently too difficult to call as Huffman is just collecting offers. Strengths: Energy Level: Huffman plays with an energy level that nobody else could come close to matching. He’s the sort of guy that Georgia partisans would not want to see in a Florida uniform. His energy and passion are positive and infectious. Rebounding Position: Typically, Huffman gets himself into good rebounding position in anticipation of a miss. He relied on his wide frame a bit too much though in Alaska, he seems to box out more now. Low Post Moves: He’s got a few and he likes to make use of the glass. Hook shot, turnaround jumper, baseline step, working the defender in with the back-to-the-basket dribble and more. More than just a dunker. Physicality: Definitely not shy about playing physical. He likes the scrums in the restricted arc and finishing off the possession on both ends. Strength: He’s a strong big man that is not going to be pushed around. Always finishes through contact. Quickness: He’s very quick inside the perimeter. He does not possess great speed, but he is simply faster in his movements in the low block. Plays his size: He plays like a 6’9″ 240 pound man. Does not shrink down. Explosiveness: He’s as explosive as Chris Barnes was prior to his knee injury against Tennessee. Georgia has not had a big with this sort of explosiveness. Communicator: He is always communicating with his teammates. Very good trait to have especially on defense. Weaknesses: No High Post game: None, at least that has been recorded. He is only seen on the High Post when he is setting up an elevator screen and roll. Mid-Range game: It is a complete unknown. He may have one, but he sure does not take any mid-range shots. Ball handling: Beyond a few power dribbles in low post, not much else. Passing: How does he handle a double team? Brandon Huffman lacks the versatility to be called a Power Forward. A Power Forward is capable of playing the High and Low Posts, Huffman is not able to do so or at least has not shown it. Huffman is a high energy Center and whether Huffman is content to live in the low post and not expand his skill set is an open question. Huffman is fearless and fun to watch. -

'That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet' as Romeo committing to IUBB. 'Parting from the State of Indiana would be such sweet sorrow' (Juliet, Act 2 Scene 1) 'For this alliance may so happy prove, To turn your households' rancour to true love' of in-state five stars. (Friar Lawrence, Act 2 Scene 2) 'These violent delights have violent ends' when you stiff a Louisville bball hooker (Friar Lawrence, Act 2 Scene 5) 'A plague o' both your houses', thy houses of Cameron and Rupp. (Mercutio, Act 3 Scene 1) 'Mercy but murders, pardoning those that kill' college basketball such as PayethPal Cal.(Prince, Act 3 Scene 1) 'Get these to Church o' Thursday, for afteralleth, CTC is a pretty religious dude, or never after look me in the face' and thy Lady Martha shall never mopeth thy floor (Lord Capulet, Act 3 Scene 5) 'Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here's drink: I drink to thee' with Hanner and Stan. (Juliet, Act 4 Scene 3) 'O true apothecary. Thy drugs are quick. As quick as Troy's mama instagram temper. Thus with a kiss I die' like a Purdue coed's chances early in a party. (Romeo, Act 5 Scene 3) 'O happy dagger. This is thy sheath: there rust and let me die', like a flopping Duke defender.(Juliet, Act 5 Scene 3) 'For never was a story of more woe, Than this is Juliet and her Romeo' if thy Romeo doth not stay home. -

That's a more than fair take on it. I disagree only in that each five star is different, and Romeo Langford's recruitment, family situation, and geographics have a lot more in common with Cody's than with someone like Ben Simmons, Cliff Alexander, Anhony Davis, Skal LaBassierre, Nerlens Noel or Okafor. That doesn't mean we'll get him, just that we have a legit chance. -
Agreed, but given that he still hasn't shown up on campus, I expect there to be much gnashing of collective fanbase teeth when he is way behind the curve for his first few months. Especially compounded because he played against relatively inferior high school competition. I expect Juwan to guard smaller lineup bigs a lot early on. By February or so? Needs to be DeRon.

The fact that we aren't pushing hard to primarily be a one-and-done program doesn't mean we don't have a chance for the right 5 star. That's also undeniable, and proven. -

^^That implies that we're regularly battling for "top 3 players." ^^ With five star players? We've won a few (Zeller, Blackmon, Ferrell, Bryant), and lost at least a few (Lyles, Pinson, Harris, etc). Of course, UNC, Duke, UK, etc have also lost more than a few battles for five star players. And that's okay too. Moral of the story? Overgeneralizing on any particular player's interest in IUBB is not especially indicative of that player's intentions. -
Zander is a tough little sh!t. I'm hopeful they can get him over 165 pounds.

Don't think this has been discussed yet: Yes, the "Crystal Ball" favors UConn, but many of those predictions were from as far back as 2014. The most recent two predictions? Both made on August 1st, 2016 By Alex Bozich and Jerry Meyer Both for IU -
What the heck is up with all of the recruit love for Xavier?!? Something stinketh, me thinketh.
-
Offenses are usually far behind defenses in the early camp stages. The scary part has been in past years when that hasn't been true for IUFB. There has been enough talent on the defense for awhile. Coach Allen is a big, big deal.
