(2026) - PF Trey Thompson to Iowa
Stuhoo replied to go iu bb's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Your example of $1m instead of $1.5m would be a 50% ‘hometown discount’, so no; not that. But a 10% hometown discount? Maybe sure. Or winning a recruiting battle by matching instead of having to outbid? Yes! Or some players don’t shop themselves because they’re happy and getting what they generally consider market value where they are? Absolutely. FWIW; there were three of our twelve players who I would imagine we got that advantageous treatment from this year; Tucker, Enright, and Sisley. -
What a great article. An underrated part of it that shows just how poorly we were thought of going into last season? "Before the game against UCLA on September 14th, the Hoosiers have two home games. Indiana should be favored to win both games as they host Florida International on August 31st and Western Illinois on September 6th." Yes ... "should be" favored against FIU and WIU. Should have taken the Hoosiers against the spread in every damn game last year.

At the risk of oversimplifying things, it's a matter of Having a generally competitive budget, Creating budgetary value as a product of relationships and the staff's ability to develop, and then Spending the budget wisely.

Is it reasonable to say that this visit also puts pressure on Kinney? The two of them have been battling each other and both are strongly considering IU and Kensucky. Feels almost like two dominoes that could fall, one to each of the two schools. -

To say that this interview and article reads "promising" would be a vast understatement: https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-qa-latrell-allmond-recaps-indiana-visit-next-steps/ D-Rock, KJ, and Prince AM getting to work. -
Drake was not an especially 'cut above' player at Drexel and there's no reason to think he'll ever be a key piece if we're a tournament team. More like one of those garden variety guards that Minnesota has filled their roster with. And that's okay - he'll be an experienced, playable back bench guy.

Listened to the Rabjohns podcast with, as a wise poster has nicknamed them ... "the Dorks." Some informative takeaways: Rabby has spoken with "12-15 coaches" that he says have no motivation to lie about Devries. To a man, each and every one says that he makes players better, is very good at establishing roles for players, and that his teams always overperform expectations. Practices have been, without exception, very organized, relatively short, and purposeful. Cignetti-like. Speaking of expectations, Rabby was fairly convinced that the Rothstein early "IU 15thin the B1G" projection was a product of: It's summer when it's hard to get clicks. Only about five fanbases stay engaged for July college bball content, and we're one of them. Projecting IUBB 8-12th this year does not prompt discussion or clicks; only projecting them unnaturally high or low will do that. Now the good stuff: Rabby currently sees three guaranteed starters: Tucker, Wilkerson, and Conerway. Tucker apparently is our best player in practice, and is going full contact five on five. Lots of good stuff about Conerway as a disruptive defensive guard. Enright is a top eight rotation player and the backup point guard. Not a starter. The other two starters are likely to come from the foursome of Bailey (the most likely), Alexis, Harris, and Miles. Dorn is still recovering from a last season foot injury, and has not been able to go at all. He is not looking like a rotation player any time soon. Drake will likely play some as the current ninth player. Sisley is confident and hyper-competitive; he could play some and would slot as the tenth most likely used player currently. Ritisic is not athletic. Not at all. He was described as good catch and shoot kid with a good attitude who will need a year or two before he adjusts to the speed of college hoops. Developmental only. Someday maybe Matt Roth, or maybe Grant Gelon.

100% We wouldn’t be offering the day before he announces his top 7 if we weren’t on it. So good. -
He has Old Dominion as a significantly tougher opponent than Purdump.

Carpenter was an excellent player but was an overachiever - he can be replaced. But CJ West? Them's some (literally) big shoes to fill.

Pickleball is a nefarious plot to destroy all that is good in the world. Per its insidious pickle-ways, it started by slowly but surely suffocating tennis; a sport that no one in their right mind was still playing anyway. But now? BLAMMO!! It has crept into the sanctity of Indiana high school basketball courts. The sneaky pickle-rat-bastards have clearly gone too far. Surely it's next steps will be to replace the loyalty of your dog with a pickleracketpaddle (or whatever the hell they're called). Then? The sweet hugs of your mamas will turn into a briny, back-pain inducing, pickle-mess. Sigh.

I’m worried about depth at OL, DL, WR, and secondary. Last year we were blessedly injury free. This coming year we are arguably more talented but with less depth.

Not because of Hoosier Hysteria, but I love the phrase “earned enthusiasm.”

I’m sure I don’t care how heralded the roster is. I can clearly see what a heralded roster gets us when combined with substandard coaching and scheme. Agreed— the average ‘non-sunshine pumped” fan may be less excited by a roster that doesn’t include big names like Ballo, Reneau, Mgbako, Myles Rice, and Kanaan Carlyle (those were the big names on last year's roster) and the average fan would very likely have preferred a bigger name coach like 72 year old Pitino or dirtbag Wade. I don’t pay heed to that either. None of this means that Devries will succeed greatly; the trick is to win consistently at IU and that remains to be seen. But I'm glad we hired a relatively young yet experienced college lifer with a pretty strong pedigree. I am also glad that Devries prioritizes proven shooting over other attributes, figuring that he can teach defense and effort to a shooter, but it’s far more difficult to do the converse. Now, all he needs to do is win consistently. If he wins all of the fanbase accolades will follow. And I am quite sure it is way too early to opine on whether this roster, coaching, and scheme will produce that.

You are clearly upset with his “staff handling.” Why and what does that mean? I am not sure. -

Disagree. There are a ton of teams that have all but entirely new rosters, and with guys that are infinitely less proven than players like Tucker D, Wilkerson, Conerway, and Bailey. So go ahead; pick Nebraska - with (except for Mast) proven failures at the P5 level all through their lineup at 12th, or USC with a completely new team (as always with Musselman) at 10th, or NW, with Martinelli and a really, really bad roster around him at 14. That's a completely f'd up list if you ask me.

C'mon KJ. Let's get this done. Kinney, Allmond, Prince, Suigo, and one more top 25-er. Add that to Harris, Dorn, Ristic, Sisley, Drake. Combine with three or four portals and serve. -

And he's an Adidas kid. Feels like a Louisville/IU battle to the finish line. Sign him and give him the keys for 2026. -

When one thinks of “bribery, prostitution, gambling” in sports, one thinks of … Iowa? Hahahahaha -
Welcome Tucker. Here’s a place for one and all to opine on his future as a Hoosier.
-
New turf. Looks purty!
-
FWIW, I think that's Prince's prediction for IUBB non-conference. #TrustInPrince ... and look out Kensucky, Louisville, Marquette, and K State!
-
Agree with all of this… except? They have all but a zero chance of playing us close for a few quarters at their place. Maybe for a few minutes. It will be a nationally televised Thanksgiving weekend Friday night game; we will be coming off of a bye week; we will also very much have something to play for; Cig will show zero mercy and give zero f**ks; and we are so incredibly better than they will be. It will be epically enjoyable.

Geez... what a pessimist! If you take away those two bad games he was 14 for 29 from the line; SO much better! In those two bad games he may have fouled out half of the opponent players. #hackaMarcis
