2024 - SG Jonathan Powell to Xavier

True. But to be fair, the Woodson commits have been excellent, and Powell is not an IU commit, just a prospect.

That's a solid pickup per both ranking and offer list.

IUBB vs Elon - Tuesday, 12/20/22 @ 7:00 on BTN

I am, at least in part. Of the three guys on the roster that (I believe) can provide a distance shooting threat, only Gunn and Kopp defend, and only Gunn can finish at the rim. I appreciate that Bates is shooting it extremely well, but his defensive effort and recognition drive me nuts. I'm not saying Bates should get the Leal-mopup treatment, but I'd like to see CJ get more minutes than Bates.

    (2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul

Bump...play him. Last night showed a strong 20 minutes. And a SportsCenter Top Ten Play:

In my opinion there are three guards/wings that truly get into their man on the defensive end and force turnovers: Xavier Johnson Trey Galloway, and CJ Gunn Moreover, while Gunn is shooting a low percentage currently, that quick release + form is a jumper is destined to go in a lot. Defensive intensity, length, distance shooter, can finish at the rim, and low turnovers - especially for a freshman. And to me he does the one thing that Woody repeatedly says makes it all possible; he plays damn hard and does so consistently. For me? Bates is a far better player than he was last year, but he doesn't get to the rim and his defensive recognition and intensity really sucks. Play CJ Gunn.

doing five thugs at once an listening to people like u u talk about how crean turned this program around gets old we what has crean done in 6 years but win one big ten title. An not to say was probably one of the best teams iu ever had has to me was a bigger let down than us not making the tourney this year. What has crean done indiana basketball doesn't care about sweet sixteens we r about banners an competing for at the top along side the best. We r far from tht. Crean is probably one of the worst coaches with x's an o's in the big ten an has no idea when it comes to the bench an subs. An no I'm a cutter grew up in btown an yah I can't spell oh well an not saying much if ur niece can spell better than me. But I have been around here along time have a state ring with Bloomington north in 99' an have coached middle school bob for 12 years an have been part of indiana elite program for awhile an I knw many of these kids on the team an around the state. Ur probably just one of these kids tht came into town went to school an think u really knw what iu basketball really is. But us here born an raised bleed basketball an iu basketball. Crean has not done anything in his career but one final four in what 20 years coaching. 2 sweet sixteens here an a big ten champ thts not IU standards bud Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners COULD IT BE??!!??

CJ Gunn is a player. Bates and Reneau need to learn to play with real intensity consistently. Logan Duncomb has some innate ability and plays hard, but he runs out of gas physically

Played on the French under 18 National team. Played well on it. Committed to Illinois about six months ago if I remember. Can't imagine he takes any minutes from Hawkins, Dainja, or Mayer this year. If he's talented but raw it's a good idea for the Illini to get him on campus and practicing in their system.

How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

Fair enough -- it's great to be cutting edge and to have leaders with effective foresight. That is a fantastic mindset for success. Now let me flip the question. The current top five teams in college basketball are Purdoo, UConn, Houston, Arizona, and Kansas. Purdoo has the worst NIL and media program imaginable, and I cannot imagine that Houston has much going on. UConn isn't notable either. Kansas and Arizona are big names, but I'm not sure what their Adidas advantage over IU is. What do they have in common? Great coaches that are established and instill a culture of basketball toughness, both mentally and physically.

Lol no. But TJD has truly improved on the defensive end; especially as a rim protector.

    2022/23 IUFB Offseason News

Wow. That's a lot for Emory Jones if that number is a fair market representation.
  17. Good discussion ... some context: When so many reasonably detail our flaws to date, while the team is ranked #18 in the country? That's a major upgrade over the version of a flawed IU team from prior years.

How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

If you think we aren't far, it's because of the progress. This year? Bates, Gallo, Kopp, and Duncomb are markedly better. That's four of our nine returnees. None of them are alphas/featured players, but each has taken a jump from last season.
  19. Race has not played up to expectations yet. BUT, I wonder if many of us (myself included) are guilty of falling into 'backup quarterback syndrome,' the theory that the guy we haven't seen yet is surely an upgrade over the featured player who is disappointing us. I'll say this; I believe in the assessments of our staff, so if Banks and Gunn get an uptick in playing time I'll be very optimistic because it will signify that the staff thinks they're showing out in practice.

    Xavier and Race

It was a non-contact injury and on the replay his ankle don’t seem to turn so I doubt it’s an ankle. Im hoping it’s not an Achilles. Could be a torn arch which hurts like crazy but isn’t very serious

    (2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul

What would happen is that we would win and we wouldn’t learn much because Elon really stinks. Without X and with Leal and Logan out of the rotation Gunn and Banks are now in the top ten on the team. If Gunn is gonna play it’ll be because Gallo turns into the backup PG and he’s splitting with Bates. Banks is gonna have to take minutes from Kopp, who has played very well lately, including against Arizona.
