    I'm worried about in-state recruiting.

We were having this discussion on the board a few nights ago ; that is, the discussion about recruiting for Yogi's successor.   We must be either:   A)Thinking that Rojo is a starting floor general by his junior year (I have my doubts that he's a primary ball handler)   B)Feeling pretty confident that Tony Carr or Devonte Green is the pg answer and that we're getting one of them

    I'm worried about in-state recruiting.

You've said you're all for high quality players no matter where we get them from. We have a top 75 pure pg from Philly that is perceived to be an IU lean (Tony Carr). Also a top 50 PG/SG combo (Bruce Brown) leaning IU.  Whaddya think?   We are also in heavily on Ohio Ibi Watson, Eron Gordon, and I betcha we are still hoping Vijay can play at the B1G level. Grant Gelon in the mix too. There you have it; Two highly rated national prospect guards, and four midwest guards in our sights.    As for Troy's replacement, we are in the top five for Michigan native Bridges (though he's unlikely), and we are the perceived leader for top 75 Lamar Stevens. We also have midwestern kids Hartman, OG, and Morgan in the mix (unless we are going to say that Nashville is the midwest but Missouri is not).   Isn't that about what you are saying you were hoping for? I'm with you on quality of coaching questions, but I still contend that recruiting a nine or ten man quality rotation, one that includes many kids from surrounding areas, will not be an issue.
  5. Should add Lamar Stevens to my "most wanted" list.   Plays like he's angry at the other team. High character young man. Wants to know what IUBB is all about. Best buddies with Tony Carr.   Pap's list, with Carr in Alkins's place, has a real element of realism.

(2016) SF Lamar Stevens to Penn State

Guess where Lamar Stevens has been this week.   At DeMatha.   At the Victor Oladipo camp.   Tearing it up.   C'mon Lamar...you're gonna be a Hoosier, and we all know it.     Jul 15, 2015 | 09:16 pm Lawson/Oladipo: Lamar Stevens Rob HarringtonNational Recruiting Analyst HYATTSVILLE, Md. — With the bleachers full of coaches and the court full of talented competitors, Philadelphia’s Lamar Stevens put on his boots and went to work on Wednesday night. Which is to say, he strapped on those boots and walked over the field. At a camp featuring commendable parity, there weren’t too many players who truly created separation on opening day at Lawson/Oladipo. But Lamar Stevens was an obvious exception, as the 6-6 combo forward created positive action throughout his team’s game. The obvious, smack-you-in-the-face comparison for Stevens is Dez Wells. Like Wells, he’s an excellent athlete (but not quite as explosive) who loves to attack off the bounce, in transition and simply is a powerful, fearless competitor. He’ll always enjoy a strength advantage over most opponents and he gets everything he can out of his 6-6 frame. Stevens also shoots it okay, certainly better than Wells at that age, and especially from medium-range. He has a slow release that could prove troublesome in college, but his touch and mechanics look reasonably sound. Meanwhile, he’s a staunch defender and tough rebounder who competes with a tireless work ethic. It’s no surprise that he’s an increasingly hot commodity with the gentlemen sitting courtside at his games. ”I think I’m headed on an upper path,” Stevens said. “I’ve just been in the gym working on my game trying to expand my skills. I’ve really been putting up a lot of shots in the gym and am happy with where my game is now and have my confidence.”   Analysis Stevens is an active, aggressive and physical combo forward. At 6-foot-6, Stevens is a little undersized for his position, but what he lacks in size he makes up for with with terrific energy and toughness. Stevens is pound for pound is one of the better rebounders in the 2016 class. He gets quite a few points off put back opportunities and strong drives.   One question that many ask pertains to position. We currently regard Stevens as a PF/WF, but he may slot more accurately as a WF/PF. The bottom line, regardless, is that nearly everyone views him as a combo forward. For his part, he doesn’t feel the need to categorize himself. ”I don’t really want to put a number on my position because I feel like I can do so much,” Stevens said, “but ultimately if you wanted to put a number on it you could say three/four. ”But I wouldn’t mind playing the two or even the five if I have to.” His recruitment includes multiple high-majors who are fully invested in winning his signature. Stevens remains open but also seems to have more clarity than many of his peers. ”Indiana, Marquette, Villanova, Pitt, Temple … that’s probably the top five,” Stevens said. “All of those have offered. They’ve all been there for awhile. ”I have an official set up to Pitt in August and Marquette in September and am working to set up my official to Indiana.” Stevens hasn’t taken any officials to this point and thus will have up to five trips, should he opt to use them. ”I just want to go somewhere that I have the best opportunity,” he said, “a coach I can trust and a family environment. I’m very optimistic about this.”

  13.   Yakwe is the only one I can think of...and that would be great.   Are ya just pissing in the breeze, or is there a source for this?    EDIT:   Rabjohns behind the pay wall...assuming it is Yakwe he's talking about. If he became a 2015 we'd have lots of competition for him.

(2016) PG Tony Carr to PSU

The three home state schools worry me a bit.   Lamar and Tony should likely be visiting IU together. Package deals aren't at all common, but I guess anything's possible.   Those two plus a high end big man and Bruce Brown, and I'm completely stoked for the '16 class.

(2016) SF Lamar Stevens to Penn State

From the Tony Carr article...looks like we're definitely getting an OV from Lamar, and that means probably from Tony C too!     Earlier this summer, Carr and high school/AAU teammate Lamar Stevens indicated a strong desire to play with each other in college, and quite a few of their options are lining up. Stevens has told reporters he’ll be taking official visits to Pittsburgh and Indiana, as well as Marquette. Temple, Maryland, SMU and Penn State are four other schools that have offered both that are very much in that mix as well. There weren't any surprise omissions from Carr's final list. Indiana, Temple, Maryland and Penn State have been strong contenders for the guard for a

    I'm worried about in-state recruiting.

I think I've got it:   We agree on a lot: that we need "mature, smart players no matter where they're from."   We agree that there is a savings of resources when we find them nearby.   We agree that CTC has, ahem, "mixed relations" with local coaches, and that a bigger local effort could improve that reputation.   We disagree that there is a higher success rate at finding mature, smart players when we bring in a local kid. We disagree when you say that Painter has had more success at this task than Crean.   Does that about cover it?
