(2016) PG Tony Carr to PSU

The three home state schools worry me a bit.   Lamar and Tony should likely be visiting IU together. Package deals aren't at all common, but I guess anything's possible.   Those two plus a high end big man and Bruce Brown, and I'm completely stoked for the '16 class.

(2016) SF Lamar Stevens to Penn State

From the Tony Carr article...looks like we're definitely getting an OV from Lamar, and that means probably from Tony C too!     Earlier this summer, Carr and high school/AAU teammate Lamar Stevens indicated a strong desire to play with each other in college, and quite a few of their options are lining up. Stevens has told reporters he’ll be taking official visits to Pittsburgh and Indiana, as well as Marquette. Temple, Maryland, SMU and Penn State are four other schools that have offered both that are very much in that mix as well. There weren't any surprise omissions from Carr's final list. Indiana, Temple, Maryland and Penn State have been strong contenders for the guard for a

IMO, Your first post on this board should not be a "ROFL" scenario.

    Blackmon Jr. Had Knee Surgery?

Hence JBj was not in the "Summer Workout" videos! There is a major, major difference between cleaning up cartilage and ligament trouble. Should be good as new in six weeks.   Or...In the words of a very young Kevin Bacon:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDAmPIq29ro

I think I've got it:   We agree on a lot: that we need "mature, smart players no matter where they're from."   We agree that there is a savings of resources when we find them nearby.   We agree that CTC has, ahem, "mixed relations" with local coaches, and that a bigger local effort could improve that reputation.   We disagree that there is a higher success rate at finding mature, smart players when we bring in a local kid. We disagree when you say that Painter has had more success at this task than Crean.   Does that about cover it?
  11.   A Kameron McGusty is either:   1)  A previously under the radar, uber-athletic wing from Texas that we have been in pretty early on 2)  A wind protection device for convertible cars 3)  A tasty new treat at your local Dairy Queen 4)  A "sexy-time" technique perfected by Napleshoosier as a senior at IU   As to whether you have been living under a mushroom; geez Nips, that probably just the way you feel some mornings. Strong coffee oughta fix that.
  12.     That would be an epic pull.   I am curious: With Yogi all done, why do you think Carr is the only true PG we seem to be putting a full effort towards for 2016?
  13. It seems as if we are considered the leader for Huntington Prep 4 star CuJo, and we are in the final five for Miles Bridges. Both were teammates of Thomas Bryant, who was the undisputed leader of that prep team last year.   Forgive me if I am stretching the optimism a bit, but that tells me that Thomas is talking to them, is (generally) planning on being at IU for his sophomre year, and that he is having an excellent, "sell the school" experience at IU so far. We need Troy and JBj replacements in '16. I know we are a longshot with Bridges, but these two would hit the sweet spot big time. A lot of good can happen on an OV; hope we get one.
  14. No thank you.   I'm with GoColts/Old Friend on this one.   Suppose I could be convinced otherwise, but I don't see Adams being an impact player OR a positive team chemistry addition.

Absolutely agree with the principle, but disagree about Vonleh. Vonleh was (is) a great natural talent, but his game was very immature when we had him. Saw us feeding the post to Vonleh, invariably with negative results. Noah's court vision was not good at all, or maybe he wasn't coached on the basics of passing out of the post. Either way, it was a disaster when it happened. Vonleh was barely 18 as a freshman, and IMO, had a transient attitude from day one. HE is an example of an out of state recruit that did not work out. If he'd stayed a few years, it would have been a success, but that's not where his head was at.   Holt showed much better instincts, and Bryant has the reputation of being a willing passer; maybe this year. It would be a nice change.   All of that having been said, our ball security and ball movement was so much better last year that any post improvement would be gravy.   I know it's been beaten to death, but defensive awareness, defensive guard play, and some (any?) kind of defensive presence at the rim will open so many possibilities for this year's team. Moreover, those improvements are far more necessary than an active post game.

PS:    Stop comparing the relative value of Rawle Alkins versus Eron Gordon. We have room for both and we want both.   Instead, compare the relative value of getting Grant Gelon versus Curtis Jones, Eli Wright, Mitchell Ballock.   That's the real question.
  17. And THAT'S why the coming year is so darn interesting.   For the last two years, we had such large roster gaps and deficiencies, that if everything went well, we had the potential to get about as far as we got last year. In my opinion, seventh in the B1G and a second round out in the NCAAs was about our ceiling. Two of our top three guards were freshmen who hit the wall, our "best" big stunk, and our second best big was a freshman who didn't join the team until late August.    This year, there are absolutely question marks, but the:    Potential.   Is.   Unlimited.

Here ya go!   Right up the alley of those who prefer the local kid. Only one D1 offer so far, but we are monitoring for 2016 and he could be who we end up with instead of a guy in the mid-low three or four star category such as Curtis Jones, Eli Wright, Mitchell Ballock, etc.   Kyle Neddenriep ‏@KyleNeddenriep  8m8 minutes ago Big week for Gelon. RT @Stof34: Indiana Elite Central 2016 Grant Gelon of Crown Point offered by Western Michigan, interest from IU. "Grant Gelon no doubt attracted the attention of a few college coaches in attendance this week at the Adidas Invitational for his ability to knock down the outside shot. Gelon, a 6-5 senior-to-be from Crown Point, shot 11-for-23 from the 3-point line in his first three games with Indiana Elite Central 2016. That percentage isn't an anomaly for Gelon, who set a Crown Point school record with 102 made 3-pointers as a junior at a 43 percent clip.   I'm trying to be a better all-round player this summer, but that's probably the main focus of my play is my shooting ability," said Gelon, who averaged 14.3 points a game as a junior.   Crown Point finished 19-9 and advanced to a Class 4A regional final before losing to South Bend Riley by three points.Gelon hasn't yet snared a Division offer but is getting interest from programs such as Denver, Furman, Illinois State, Iona, IUPUI, Montana State, Western Michigan and Youngstown State."
  19. A late addition that makes perfect sense. Exactly why an open spot can be extremely valuable.    Learns during his freshman year, and then becomes a rotation regular by his sophomore year.

(2016) PG Curtis Jones to IU

Well then sh_t, let's end it now!!
  21. We don't have to choose.   We are losing Yogi, Nick Z, and maybe JBj after this season, and we need at least two 2016 guards.
