Good post, and I hope it doesn't seem like I'm attacking you for saying it. I guess where I take exception with what you are saying is with the presuppositions that you include. Yes, our three-point shooting is a big part of our offense, but our inside and post game has improved markedly. Additionally, our substitution patterns and defense are no longer inconsistent. With Johnson back for the tournament and Morgan and 0G getting major minutes, we are a verifiable, proven good defensive team. The only reason to think that we are less than a good defensive team is the prior anti-Crean narrative and the stretch of games before we figured things out. That stretch was a pretty long time ago.

Hate to nitpick, but "more capable of beating ourselves than any other team" is waaayyy too strong. Pretty much every team has been capable of beating themselves against inferior competition. Did you see #1 Kansas versus 12-17 Oklahoma State, Purdue against Illinois, UK against Auburn, Maryland against Minne-freakin-sota? This happens everywhere, and at Penn St, while not a "good loss", is not that bad a loss.
-
You really think that Penn State has played better than us during the conference season?!? Yes, I understand that on one given night they played better than us, but that's why the total won/loss record is relevant. Additionally, you may not think that our bench is deep, but it is merely deeper than any other big 10 team, save for possibly Michigan State.

I would very much like to have at least one "full disclosure" PU and UK fan posting on this site. -

I admire your consistency, your stick-to-it-ness, and your appearance. Your conclusion? It is stoopid.

I am not worried. Newkirk is allegedly a plus defender, and a fantastic character guy. Our team will be different without Yogi, for sure. We won't have that last five seconds of the shot clock guy, to the team's detriment. On the other hand, Rojo, OG, and Juwan will continue to develop. Will we be 'better'? I don't know, but: I'm quite certain that we will be quite good. Contention good. As good as anyone on a given day good. Good enough to not play our best and beat a mediocre team good. Good enough to play our best and beat anyone good. Multiple guys that can guard multiple positions good. Multiple shooters that have to be accounted for good. With player-driven leadership. RoJo and Colinn are ready to assume leadership roles. DEEP with real, quality players. At the very least, RoJo, OG, Juwan, TB, Colinn, DeRon. Then, find two or three more quality players from Devonte, JBJ, Josh N, CuJo.
-
And Harrison Niego: Excellent decision maker. Instinctive defender.
-
Josh Newkirk just may be the key to next season, eh?
-
I think Stephen Curry might be able to take on SIX thugs at once! :o
-
Winning can cure a lot of "not looking up-ness".
-
Excellent players want to play for an excellent team. Lately, we have been showing as an excellent team.
-
Allow me to summarize: The Indiana Hoosiers are really good. We held Illinois to 19 points in the second half on the road. Illinois only shot a couple of free throws...all game. We are deep. We are big. We can shoot. We have a true and passionate leader. The Indiana Hoosiers are not infallible, but we are really good.

Yogi, OG, and Juwan are driving Illinois absolutely batsh!t with their defense.
