Damn Indiana State!!! If you just score another touchdown, we could be talking about an 0 for season… -

This zone D blows. Every pass is going to the soft spot in the middle of the zone. You would think our coaches could see that. -

I think PU brought more fans to this game than at their shithole. See what happens when you put attractive women in the stadium PU? Might be money well spent to buy 30 or so strippers for home games. Might be enough to put 1500 in the stands. -

The Difference Between the IU and PU Squads
mdn82 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I honestly think the main difference is, we recruit and typically GET the exact type of player who fits our program. Painter recruits and typically has to settle more than Crean. He doesn't get terrible players, but he would tell you more times than not it is not his first pick. 2014 was the first year in a while Crean struggled a bit in recruiting and we still get 2 players ranked higher than any PU player since Moore. That is the difference. We have Cody, Christian, Mo, JB, Robert Johnson, Yogi, Hanner, Jeremy, Troy, and Noah who are ranked higher than any player PU has through 2014, unless I am forgetting about someone, but every player I mentioned is hovering around 40 when we got them or higher. I think Kendall and Bryson will be solid players for them. AJ will be solid, but won't have the career they thought. He is just not motivated enough. The Johnson brothers just aren't good. They are solid on their best days. Beyond that, they have nobody that can match up, especially in modern NCAA where you can't win by making a game ugly. They shoot at this point barely better than us, but beyond that we are far superior in every area. Talent wise, we are only going to be better. They will win maybe 2 out of 10 games against us going forward unless Painter nabs either a high 4* or 5*. -

Dare I say great defense so far…. The only thing that worries me is this being the lasting memory of the football season and Mallory stays. -
I do hope he carries them into the tournament. That is one thing he never really got to do with us and play meaningful minutes. At this point, that is my hope for Mo.
-
In hindsight he would have. But, after really being here 4 years, and not making it through 1 year healthy or at a level to be able to play at IU, it was easy to see why that decision was made in April/May. I wish Mo nothing but the best. I have never been more disappointed for a player at IU with that much potential outside of Landon. But, we needed a sure thing. At the time, Evan was it. He has done well and it will only help us with Eron. Mo has been able to play at the high level we wished we could have seen here. Win/win for everyone. We could have really used his shooting. I 100% agree with that.

Yeah, the NCC isn't much competition to Marion. Unless Kokomo is any good, none of the Ft. Wayne teams are strong this year. Tech will be a game. Lawrence North will be a game. Beyond that, none of the Fort Wayne teams, IMO, can compete. If Marion has any bigs that can not let Swanigan (Homestead) and Lyles go off for like 30 and 20, then they will win those games. Don't think they go undefeated, but they should go into tournament with at most 1 or 2 losses.

Just looked to get a feel for how the size is in this class. They have Oubre and Stanley Johnson listed at 6'7" and SG on 247 Composite. I have seen them play a few games in the summer, and they played more of a 3. They listed Jaquan Lyle as a SG as well, and anyone who has ever watched him play knows he will never play that position. I think Oubre, Johnson, and Okafor are elitish athletes. They are definitely ahead of JB2 in that area. I would consider his shooting elite and have said that for a long time. So, that isn't an IU commit thing. I live 20 minutes from him. I have seen without exaggeration 20 games during his time at Luers and Spiece. So, his size is average at best for a 2. Not bad, and shouldn't diminish him in rankings. He isn't Tyler Ulis or anything, and he is around 30 like 5'7". His athleticism is above average, but not elite. His shooting is elite. Shooting is a skill. That should be enough to move him up if he has a great year after the summer he had. I definitely see what you are saying though Charlie. Don't want to make it sound like he will jump into top 5. Won't happen. But, I think he could get to 15ish.
-
He is 6'4". He isn't small. His size won't keep him from moving up. That is pretty solid for a true 2 Guard coming into college. Not too many true 2 Guards coming into college 6'5" or taller. As for the class as a whole, there isn't many elite athletes. In the top 20, there is maybe 5 solid to elite athletes. 2014 is not a good year for athletes. Someone like Trey Lyles is in the top 5. That is pretty much what is in the top 10. Solid athletes with all around skills. James has been very explosive getting to the rim since he came back from his knee injury. One thing many people don't talk about is his rehab exercises were outlined by Je'ney. He has came back better. He just shoots so good, that isn't what is talked about. I highly recommend watching him play if you are close. If you are around Indy, they play Arsenal Tech in Indy this year. Beyond that most games are around Marion. I will be shocked if anyone can put up the numbers to match him this year for Mr. Basketball.
-
Yeah, it wasn't good defense at all. I was told double teams. That was the worst defense I had seen. The shots were impressive. I need to post his schedule, more than anything to be aware when he plays so I can go. The Marion bench doesn't seem too excited, because they aren't getting off of it, and they think they are as good as him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him jump up into top 15 by the end of the year with the better competition coming off of a great summer.

Prediction League Game 8 (Week 5) IU vs Syracuse (12/03/13)

Syracuse 66 - IU 54… That hurt worse than Anthony Davis thinking. -
From what I heard, he was working through double teams all night. Not a good team they played, but still. You have 2 bodies in front of you all night, and you do that? That is impressive.
-
He will. Marion wants to win. Senior knows his son is the best chance. They haven't won in a while. They are a school who expects to win. Can't wait to see how this progresses through the year.
-
I am hoping to see him firsthand a few times this year. I am disappointed that Marion plays Huntington North at home. Its a 20 minute drive for me, so it isn't rough. I am just lazy. They do play at Homestead this year. I believe they are still in Huntington North's Sectional in Huntington. Hopefully I can catch a few games. Wouldn't mind somehow trying to get an interview if he would allow… Maybe we could have the powers that be approach that possibility with him on twitter, or whatever the proper channels are. I am close enough to travel wherever his games are depending on my work schedule.

You and me both man. His look just annoys me to no end.

Well, that was more like it. Also, who wouldn't want to be a fly on the wall in that locker room when Coach Crean announced Jeff Howard as the starter? The message was clear, and the message was received. That was as dominant defensively as we will be against a solid offensive team. They aren't as good as the 90+ they were scoring heading into this game, but they are definitely solid. We held them under 50. Loved the effort on the defensive side of the ball. We were about as active as one team could be throughout this one. As a team, we destroyed the boards with 58 to the Aces 30. It is easy to notice Noah on a day like this, but this was definitely a team effort on the boards. Turnovers were still a little on the high side with 17. This is going to be a team, that will probably aim to be around 15 if we are clicking. On the defensive side we were about as active as anyone could hope. We had 7 blocks, 8 steals, and forced 15 turnovers while holding the Aces under 30%. We were successful getting back to the line in this one, going 25-35 from the line. The Aces only got to the line 22 times in this one while only fouling us 3 more times. That tells me, many of the fouls we were drawing were at the rim while being aggressive. Those are numbers that explain a blowout for a team who only shot 40% from the field. Individually, we really had two standout performances. First, I would like to mention Jeremy Hollowell and the inspired performance he seemed to have. He received Coach Crean's message loud and clear in this one. That was about the most active we have seen him. He was fighting for loose balls, and playing fairly solid defense. His 18 points look good on paper, but the stats that won't show up in the box score are the ones that Coach will point out tomorrow. Second, Noah got back on track with 13 and 12 on a very efficient night (5-6, including his first 3!!!). Really liked how active Will was in spite of only turning in 6 points. He also had 5 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Yogi had a forgettable 10. He seemed to really force it today at times we were having success going to the rim. He really needs to improve his decision making of when he flips that switch into full on scorer mode for us to get to where we need to be. I know Crean has spoke about how aggressive he wants to be. I just think we have had spots where we are having success driving, and he has 2 or 3 trips in close proximity where he shoots contested 3's with 30 on the shot clock. All in all, I liked the way they played coming off of a loss. I loved that Crean used Jeff Howard to light a fire under Jeremy coming out of a loss. Hopefully he sees where things went right tonight, and it started with effort. That goes for a lot of people tonight. It was easy to see it was a collective message, and the boys responded. As a young group, it is understandable they will have peaks and valleys. It is also nice to know we have the depth to prove a point. I don't expect it to be Jeff Howard come B1G play, but we have plenty of options. One area I thought we would be better in, than what we are is ball-handling. Just seems to be a big drop off after Yogi goes to the bench. This is one area we really need to improve, and have the upside to be able to do before conference comes. Great win tonight for the good guys. Enjoy it, because next week we go to Syracuse, and relive last year with every promo of the Sweet 16 imaginable.

They are a veteran team with Boeheim as their coach. Its possible, but I don't think so. We still have IU on the front of the jersey and any team overlooking that would shock me.
-
This. Crean has the talent now where he shouldn't have to "make examples" of Hollowell every other game. If he has to come in as a sixth man to get into the game like Will did for the last couple of years, then so be it. He has the talent to be a starter, but we can't afford for him to go to the extremes Christian sometimes went through.

Great game for Jeremy. Glad to see him give the effort needed to be successful and rewarded for it. Noah is really flipping good. Yogi needs to know when it is better to start hoisting up 3 after 3. We were having success going inside, and then that light switch flipped for him. I know he is our best option from 3, but it would be nice to see him keep with something if its working. Beyond that, when he is on the bench, we really don't have a legit backup PG. That is scary. -
Well played sir. :locomotive:
