  1. 68 - 65 PU.  Sorry guys.  Too much negative energy going for the team right now and PU should want to get back at us after what we did to them last year.

    Fred Glass interview

Honestly, depends on his definition as a coach.  A coach to him, at IU, could mean a manager of an extremely popular team who gets the players to go to class.  He gets record donations due to them being on the same page.  A coach to an AD is far more than X's and O's, especially the basketball coach at IU.  That part is only for the fans.  If X's and O's were all it took, RMK would still be here.  Until we stop putting fans in the stadium or it is downright terrible, he will like Crean.

    TOM CREAN FIRED

Ha, it has been like that since the late 80s my man.

    Scouting a potential Crean replacement

Yep.  It isn't happening overnight.  Its like looking at a recruiting board you have no idea what year in the future the kid is for.  He could be for next year, or 5 years.  I guess its that damned next shiny thing syndrome we always hear about.  Guess it happens for coaches too.  So much will change between now and when Crean gets fired or retires.  I don't claim to know which one will happen first.  The only thing as a fan hope for is if he doesn't live up to expectations of the University continually, then he is let go and replaced with someone better.  He is coming off of a B1G title and back to back Sweet 16s.  Before anyone tells me all we strive for is titles is fooling themselves.  We haven't won a title in over 25 years.  We will win one again.  It may be sometime soon, and it may not be.  But, to act like we are this perennial power is asinine.  We haven't been in over 20 years.  We aren't IU of the 70s/80s.  If any school could snap their fingers and get back to that, they would.  It takes a lot of things.  Coaching is one of the many things.  Do I think Crean is a good enough coach to win a title?  Ultimately, I think he needs the talent.  I think he isn't a good enough coach to improve his players position regularly to gain an advantage.  I do have my doubts about him, and I could see a scenario where he is gone in the next couple of years.  But, what happens when the next coach does not get instant results?  Because, he won't.  IU does not have the name of a Duke, UK, Kansas, or UNC.  You can't plug and play coaches in here and get whoever.  The previous 2 coaches proved that.  You will see some of Crean's recruits, who you guys want someone else to coach, playing for another coach.  Just, not at IU.

    Scouting a potential Crean replacement

That is ultimately what I was saying.  People will never be happy with any coach we hire from here on out.  A coach at IU must be able to recruit, get his kids to graduate at a high clip, and be a good game manager.  We were spoiled by RMK tenure.  If a coach wins a title here, then goes 10 years without a title, this fan base would probably want him gone.  If we were in charge, Boeheim would not be the coach at Syracuse.  Ah, the life of a fan.  It is so much easier to build a Dynasty in a video game damn it.

I think both suck, to be honest.  Pastner is a worst coach than Crean.  He is a recruiter.  I will give him credit for having morals and sticking to them.  As a coach, he is not that good.  Beilein is the same in many people's eyes.  Its funny, because even 10 years ago, you always heard about all of these good coaches.  Now a coach is only good if he has made a Final Four in the last 5 years.  I think if people who thought Crean is not a good coach looked at his record vs. Beilein, they wouldn't want Beilein.

^^^ I definitely agree, but I would hope we wouldn't make a change for the sake of making a change.  I would hope there would be someone clearly better who would want to come to IU.  What happens if we fire him just to fire him without a plan?  That is what happened under Knight.  It was handled terribly, and it set us back a long time with Davis.  We need to have a plan.  We can't just say anyone is better, because I truly don't believe that.  All people are not equal.  His recruiting will more times than not make up for some of his coaching.  I think we need someone who has proven they can coach and recruit (as well as class).  The last 3 coaches have proved all of these to be essential for IU fans.  Under a hasty decision we will be in the same boat in 3 years.  IMO.  I don't think this year is the year, but his leash is obviously getting shorter and shorter.  Fans patience is growing thinner for sure.
  9. I am late to the party.  It was a party in which I never wish I went to.  I am physically sickened after watching that finish.  We would have to do things at this point, I feel are out of the realm of possibility to make the tournament.  Our prevent offense ultimately led to the end result.  I know many of you guys will see the 10+ point lead evaporate and say that is where the game was lost.  I can point to a handful of possessions where I seen all 5 Hoosiers on the same side of the court, along with all of the turnovers.  When you see all 5 players on one side of the court, you will see 10 players.  10 players on one side of the court creates quite the logjam.  That logjam creates a shot that might as well be a turnover.  I know I have ranted on that the last couple of games, but man, that is something that you should not see at this point in the season.  Crean's offense (loose term for some) is based on concept, recognition, and responsibility.  It isn't mechanical.  It is based on players recognizing what the other team is giving.  From there, you usually have 2 players setting screens.  One for the ball, and one for the player getting ready to get the ball in a drive ready motion.  It is February.  We still are operating multiple possessions with all 5 players on the same side of the court.  Honestly, if you scream that last sentence, it somewhat makes you feel better.     As a team, I felt we looked lifeless out of the gate, and out-talented PSU for 37 minutes of the game.  We are just far more talented.  But, as all of you have seen this year, we just get too casual with the ball.  20 turnovers.  20.  That is 2 with a 0.  2-0.  I seriously want to go flappy bird on my computer when typing that out, and just take a bat to it.  We shot over 50% for the game, but when you have a turnover percentage of over 25%, you deserve to lose.  I don't care what you do in the rest of the game.  Defensively, I didn't think we were terrible.  I think they were just hitting more than they normally do.  We only out rebounded that team by 6.  That is the number there, that tells me we came into this game overlooking this team.  We should out rebound that team by 15 every game.  They wanted this more than us, and they deserve it.     Individually, if I do nothing else for this game I want to know what in the hell was the game plan in regards to getting Noah Vonleh the ball?  Dude went 2-3 with 8 points and 12 boards.  Oh, and he had 4 blocks.  Seriously, 3 shots?  Tom Crean should be running sprints tomorrow for that.  I am all for a player coming to get the ball, but 3 shots for that type of a player shows me he was not a major part of the game plan.  If you can run plays for guards, you can run plays for a Freshman All American 4.  I thought Will had an inspired game tonight.  How sweet it will be watching him get to 1,000 at Mackey?  Yogi was solid in stretches.  Unfortunately for him, when the offense doesn't move, he has the ball in his hands in the final seconds and has to throw up bad shots regularly.  Really thought Troy and Stan brought some energy minutes in this one.  Beyond that, mama always told me, "if you ain't got nothing nice to say, then shut your damn mouth".     Conclusion to this?  The only outcome to this is, I may have to call in sick tomorrow for the amounts of alcohol I am getting ready to drink.  Seriously.  PSU and Northwestern at AH in the same year we beat UW and UM.  How in the hell does that happen?  NCAA Tournament?  I would put those odds at between me hooking up with Kate Upton, and Jaybob cutting the mullet.  Those are some bad losses to overcome.  We would probably have to win at OSU and beat them as well as Iowa at home.  Good luck tonight everyone.  Remember, friends don't let friends drive drunk.  Designate a driver, and pamper them.  Don't make them watch you drink, then make them be your wingman.  That is double dipping, and just rude after what they just witnessed as well.  We should all take a moment and pour out some liquor for the boys team this year.

    Scouting a potential Crean replacement

Seriously, at this point I don't think there would be a cut and dry answer for this year.  I don't think he gets fired this year.  I don't think IU needs to settle either.  If there is a coach who fits perfectly, and Glass doesn't feel Crean can take us further, I would hope he would make a move.  That said, I don't think it is this year, and there is nobody available we could get this year that is worth firing Crean for.

If you guys don't like Crean, Josh Pastner is essentially Crean with less "big" wins.  Not sure why he would be in the discussion.  I personally wouldn't like Shaka Smart, because I feel his team is a gimmick.  I would hope we would go balls out on someone mid-career that has already done things with less, that is known to recruit.  At IU, you have to be able to coach in game.  Never knew how important that was until Crean was here.  You have to be able to recruit.  If you don't bring the talent to Bloomington, people can see through the gimmick.  You have to have kids go to class.  That is a Knight thing, but the boosters demand that.  IU is a demanding job, but I am glad it is that way.  I don't think it is cut and dry for Crean and IU, but I as well as anyone have my doubts.  His kids don't understand what they are supposed to do within his offense.  On defense, they don't recognize or understand switches and communicating when they should.  That falls on coaching.  IMO.  It won't happen this year, but I would imagine next year is make or break, depending on how it plays out.
  12. Before this gets out of hand, please don't make me stop drinking to moderate.  This was a piss poor performance.  No way around that.  Please, pretty please with a cherry on top, let me drink my self to sleep in peace.  Don't start bashing, name-calling, or being a pain in the ass.   :nono:
  13.   If I start drinking now, I can still get enough in me to get the Last Call!!!  I think I deserve it after that game.

    Sports Parents

You know, I think they scope out places like this more than most of us want to imagine.  We are anonymous in places like this.  They unfortunately can never hide from perception.  As a parent, I would struggle with the multitude of scrutiny we put out there.  That is why I ultimately as a mod do not like personal comments.  Critique the play, not the player.

    Jeremy Hollowell Trending

Yeah, I think he deserved more than what he got at Minnesota.  On the flip side I thought he was getting more than he should of early in the year.  Hopefully, we start going with the hot hand when its obvious the guy he is replacing is a step slow for whatever reason that night.

It is refreshing to see someone so close to the program who questions things, but ultimately trusts the man who is directly impacting her son. As a parent I don't know how you do it. I am very protective and with the level of scrutiny your son lives with at a place like IU, it is impressive everyone handles it with such class. As an alum I am grateful for the way he represents us. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  20. You get the feeling it would take a lot to put Crean on the hot seat.  We just went to back to back Sweet 16s for the first time in a very long time.  We just won an outright conference title.  I don't think many are appalled by this team.  It is reasonably in line with expectations.  If we are terrible next year, I am sure there would be more chatter, but we are a long way away from that moment.
