No, this is not a new thing. Go into the 90s. Pick a random year and tell me this is a new thing. I picked 1997, and I got 10 teams without even having to see who finished under .500 in conference. Joe, this is normal. It has been my whole life. That’s why before you were a glimmer of hope in your dads eye it was perceived 20 wins guaranteed you. Cause at 18 and 19 you were effectively on the bubble. Pick any year since the field went to 64 teams and show me the year that only 1 or 2 teams either had a .500 or under record or 19 or less wins got in. I don’t think you realize that’s not true. You will have 5-10 at large most years that don’t qualify under your rules. It’s not 1 or 2 Joe. Just off the top of my head I know of at least 3 and I think 4 that didn’t hit 20 wins that were at large. Teams that don’t go .500 in conference usually have wins elsewhere so it’s a completely different pool. You are talking about a percentage of at large. Not 1 or 2 teams every year. You do realize with postseason shares that’s where a lot of money comes into play for this right? So a conference with 11 teams that makes it in and has teams go further makes more than 3 teams making the tournament. The $100,000 for the big televised game isn’t as much as the potential millions from making the postseason from shares. That and conference exclusive tv is why we had movement we had. Yes because because trying to compare 64 teams in a way that is as opposite as possible makes the most sense. Considering the fact that most teams will decide its best to be in a weak conference, load up on cupcakes, and just do the bare minimum to make a tournament. Not exactly men’s basketball related, but I live here near Fort Wayne and I did not know the women’s tournament was going to have the sweet 16 and elite 8 at the Coliseum.
