    One warning

If you don't like the rules of someone else's house.  You don't go.  Simple as that.  If you don't like what in the hell I have to say, you can leave.  Why in the hell or how in the hell did this become political?  Some people's mind are just so simple they can't accept the fact that there are things like common courtesy.  They look for reasons they can't even comprehend, so they jump to this.

    FRESHMAN

This is why I like how Adam Silver has openly said he wants the NCAA in on their next negotiations, but wants in on some of their policies.  They should work together.  If the NCAA is strong, it becomes a pipeline of more rounded talent.  The NBA will say that is their reasoning, but it is simple.  The one and done rule has made it so fan bases can't become attached to a player like a Vic.  A 3 year player who improved and became something special.  Now more IU fans watch Magic games than ever before.  It is free advertising for the NBA, with a built in interest for your favorite players.  ESPN hypes college games as much if not more than the NBA at times.  This would be good for both.

    FRESHMAN

I can't wait to see some lineups with 4 guards.  Actually, I can.  I just think our depth will kind of determine how much we see them on the court together.  Stan, Troy, and JB will have to get 20-25 min next year.  Yogi will get 30.  Beyond that, who?  Hanner?  Jeremy will probably get 20-25.  Devin will probably jump in minutes.  I will assume Crean's end of year assessment won't be pretty this year.  To be a fly on that wall….
  4.   No politics please.  Beyond that, no problems with what you said.  You guys are good to go at it.

      That is my magic word.
  7. Score for those of us at work?
  8.   Ha, I don't think he felt comfortable with his other moves.  I missed the easy dunks beating his man down the court.  It really is hard to judge whether or not he would have made a mistake if the drafts were equal.  The draft he went on was terribly weak.  This year, even if he put up 20 and 10, he would have been lucky to be top 20.  As a Frosh he was hovering around 10.  If the drafts were equal (after his frosh and soph years), I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop out of the lottery.  The 2nd year showed games like the Syracuse game, where teams adapted to him, and he couldn't adjust.
  9. Ok, then we need to put things in perspective with these numbers.  His biggest knocks as a Freshman was his rebounding.  He improved that.  eFG% regressed, but his FT rate improved.  Think of the type of player Zeller is/was.  His freshman year he got many baskets just beating his guy down the court.  When you have 2 players constantly getting back to stop put a body on him to slow him down, that happens.  He went to the line at a great clip, which in turn brought his points up.  He figured out different ways to manufacture points, because as you and I both know he wasn't shooting.  His TO rate regressed due to being more of a focal point in the half court.  I mean, if I am wrong there, please tell me.  If you are saying he didn't beat his man up and down the court from freshman to sophomore years, then ok.  That is true.  So yeah, increased usage isn't everything.  The way he was used from year to year does.  Oh, and he went from 62% to 56% from the field.  Hate to bring old school into this, but as a Freshman, that shows where his points were and how much he forced his offense.  Especially when he averaged more as a soph shooting the same FT% and worse from the field.

OT: How did you find us?

I was forced into it.  Jaybob was gonna dance topless if I didn't come.  Plus, when you know Reb, you don't have to look for porn ever again.  Screw anti-virus, Reb does the searching for me.
  11. It is hard to say whether or not Oden gets injured at OSU.  He has had some freak injuries that started in the 8th grade.  As for average career of lottery pick, I could not find any data either way.  I can think of Olawakandi, Eddy Curry, Stromile Swift, Marvin Williams off the top of my head.  I would be willing to match your bet and say outside of the top 5, the bust rate is 50%.  Unless you are an impact talent, your career is less.  By impact, I am saying 20 mpg or more.  Once you hit 20 mpg, you are usually safe (barring injury) to have a long career.   http://weaksideawareness.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/average-nba-career-length-for-players-details/   The reason I liked Cody's return after his freshman season, he improved.  People go off of the eye test, but his efficiency as well as every major category improved from freshman to sophomore season.  He improved, and put himself in a better position to be a solid complimentary piece.  He will never be a star.  If he can be a solid 6 or 7th man, he will prove himself valuable.  He also improved his draft stock, and made more money.  Him being a complimentary player and not a star, while coming back gave him a chance to maximize his money making potential.  I would go pro if I were most of these kids.  There are sometimes it makes more sense to put yourself in a better position.  By better position, I mean maturity, work ethic, and some kids just like college.     As for intangibles, you are only thinking of the negatives.  Sometimes it makes sense to look at a draft's strength, and the next ones weakness.  If he has a small stress fracture in that foot or just needs some rest, his stock will hurt in this deep of a draft.  In this deep of a draft if there is any negative of any player it will be magnified immensely.  On the flip side these kids also have to take into account if Silver passes the age restriction Noah will be here 2 more years.  If I were him, I would go unless his foot is really hurt.
  12. He is the 3rd Center off of the bench averaging like 8 minutes.  That is the type of player that gets drafted over at the end of the 1st round to keep payroll down.  I always liked the dude at UConn.  I was shocked he busted out.  Offensively he was real raw, but defensively he was Anthony Davis good at 7'2".  You don't see that every day.  Then, you see players like Paul George come out of nowhere and become a superstar.  I think in the right situation a lot of young kids could do well.  If Noah went to Boston, I would be very happy for him.  That is the range he is looking right now.  That and LA.  Depending on the next coach, it should go well.  LA won't be down for long.
  13. http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/rookie_scale   That ^^^^ is the rookie pay scale.  Big difference if you slide for any reason outside of the top 5.  If it were me, I would be gone.  I would bet on myself, and the possibility of being in the Lakers or Celtics range.  You know they will do something to get better quick.  Also, if it is Boston, it is hometown team, with Brad Stevens.  He can coach college aged kids.  I would feel real comfortable betting on myself in that range.
  14.   IF he makes it that long.  Doc is correct that the average life of a NBA player is at 4 years.  Very few players come in to the league expecting to bust out.  That is why it is also important to be ready.  There has to be a good balance.  That contract is important if injuries occur or things out of his control.  Greg Oden is a great example.  Dude should have made over $100 million.  Hasheem Thabeet should have made at least $50 million if he were a career backup.  Some things just happen.  I am not saying he busts out on skill level.  I think he has to improve on the offensive end massively to compete.  Defensively, his footwork is slow right now, but he has the strongest set of hands I can remember.  He can rebound, and that will keep him on the floor.  I think he has trouble staying in front of NBA 4s.  But, he is 18.  He has upside.  His body is night and day from high school.  I can see why he would go either way honestly.  I don't think either decision should or would come down to his love of IU.  It will either be improving his draft stock, or he was "ready" to go.  Either way is right, because it is his life.
  15. I think ITH nailed it with what they said on the draft.  IF Noah is the 10th pick in this draft versus the 3rd pick in next year's weak draft, the difference is $5.3 million over the life of the contract.  IF he was to come back, he would most certainly be looked at as a top 3 pick in next year's draft.  If that is a consideration, it would come down to if he felt he and his team would improve.  That opened my eyes more than anything.

Basketball players take courses in this department a lot actually.  H105 and H106 is a required course in quite a few degrees.  People understand I am a huge IU fan by the end of the course.  I know he is not regretting his decision.  His credits transferred.  He went from scholarship to walk-on.  The IPFW campus isn't exactly Bloomington.  Players keep in touch as much as they can.  Not often obviously, but enough.

I am from this area.  I do some side stuff in the History department at IPFW.  He is not regretting his decision.

Big Ten Coach & Media Awards

I agree with Rayl on this one.  Shannon Scott was more impressive every time I seen OSU outside of the MSU game at East Lansing.  Dude was a beast this year.

Big Ten Coach & Media Awards

I know this will sound funny, but AJ Hammons.  Dude averaged over 3 blocks a game and like 8 boards.  Nobody went inside with consistency against PU.  I know why Craft won it, and it is hard to say it is an injustice.  He had 2.6 steals per game.  He is the all time leader in steals.  His best year was his sophomore year when he got almost 100 which is insane.  I know AJ plays on the worst team, but that is what the MVP is for.  The MVP should not play for the worst team.  The DPOY and OPOY can come from those types of teams.  Not typical, but its not like OSU was a top team this year.
