YES!!! I remember the first time I seen that crazy bastard giving an 80s style Ultimate Warrior interview, and I laughed my ass off. Dude is nuts, but man when he is in shape, nobody puts on the show he does.
-
Yep, and when he protected himself the last couple of weeks it was obvious. Hope the kid gets on Boston. I think Brad Stevens would be great for him since he is used to college kids.
-
Your right the money isn't made in that rookie contract IF they hit free agency. Look at the average life span of a NBA player. The difference between 2 and 12 is actually pretty large if it is the only contract he sees. $5 Million sounds like a lot, but after taxes in some places, he could see as little as $2 million in LA. I hope not, but it sounds like he will be in the D-League next year if he goes to the NBA. I didn't figure he would be back, but he is less prepared and more raw than Vic and Cody. Congrats to him for getting paid.
-
I should add in that article I posted, ouch. One GM says he will be in the D-League all year, but loves his potential. Ouch.

That is a holy shit type announcement. I guarantee it is Kendrick who told him that.

Any PPV with Diego Sanchez on it is a good one. Dude has put on the craziest fights of the year for like the last 7 years. His fight with Clay Guida and Joe Stephenson are 2 of my favorite fights. Also, his fight with BJ Penn had the nastiest cut I have ever seen in the Octagon.
-
This is going to be a good one. That last prelim fight was fantastic!
-
They are the only way this gets done, but I will still be shocked if it is this year. He did too much. He does have support. From boosters as well. It isn't like every booster is standing up at once on this. Or this would have been done. Beyond that, I can't argue with anything lol.
-
IF he has the motivation to travel as much as he will have to. Recruiting is not easy. Just because a coach has coached in the NBA (I would rather have Keith Smart) doesn't make him a good recruiter.

The NYC Brackets site you listed had a decent article. They even conceded Indiana St. was worse than IU, but due to IU's bad losses and wins they would take them. A couple of things on that. Indiana St. beat nobody. We may have lost to worse teams, but we beat far better teams. Lets also not kid ourselves. The NIT is out to make money. If they have a reason to put a team like an IU in their tournament, they will. The tv viewership and interest in their tourney goes up. So, that dude even conceded we were better rankings wise, but we lost more games… Put the Sycamores in the B1G and see how they do.
-
I would be surprised if we didn't make the NIT due to how well we draw. Either way I wouldn't care. But, money talks, and IU draws.
-
I agree it should never be a main consideration. It was an add in for me. My main reasoning for retaining him this year is due to who is available, and the cost to make that change. I just don't think you pay over $10 million to get a guy out of here if a top 5 coach is available. Especially, when there is an extreme likelihood there isn't anyone better than Crean. They may coach better than him, but they can't recruit like him (Woodson). They may recruit like him, but can't coach like him (Pastner). Woodson would be solid in Indiana, but the days of locking down the state are over. You have to be able to recruit outside of the state. I think if we make a move this year, we will again in 3 years.
-
Now, it is typically in LOI they can be released due to coaching change. That is pretty commonplace now.
-
Lmao. I can honestly say, I think this is too funny.
-
No, but if another coach was brought in, the expectations after that buyout would be even more unfair. I don't think any coach gets a free pass. I am 31. I am not naive to the history of this team. I am saying, a new coach comes and makes the tournament. He bows out in the first round, and people will point to that buyout. They will point to that and want the next coach. To me it is funny, because you can't just hit the reset button every year. Lets also be real. If Crean leaves, then it is more than likely we are starting from close to scratch again. Troy (East Coast with Nike ties), Stan (Good friend of Troy and East Coast ties), Noah (NBA), JB2 (Would not come here if Crean is gone)… Beyond that you have normal transfers. With a new coach, you will see people expecting something next year without talent.
There are basically 3 schools of thought... 1.) Keep what you got - I am not a fan of this, who cares about stability, I don't want to be stable in 8th place in the Big Ten or playing in the NIT. Stability is overrated when it comes to recruits in the longterm... short term maybe you lose a guy or 2 but long term if you are stable in mediocrity then you will get mediocre recruits. 2.) Go after the Big name - Hard to find that big name that is willing to leave wherever they are. Top 5 coaches don't just up and leave. 3.) Find the NEXT top 5 Coach - You never know where the next one is coming from, try a guy if after 5/6 years he isn't the next great then get rid of him and try again.... It isn't like just throwing darts, there are coaching trees, there are people inside college basketball who have ideas of who MAY be the next great coach... but it isn't a gaurantee either so don't be afraid to miss as long as you are willing to try again. Overall I am on the fence with Crean, I wouldn't throw a fit if he was bought out but I don't see it happening this year. I LOVE what CTC has done for IU, he has done exactly what he was hired to do (Resurect the program).... but maybe (just maybe) it is time to part ways and hire somebody else to do a different job (National Title) There are no gaurantees, not Calbert, not Woodson, not Crews, not Stephens, not Crean....
I just don't think it makes sense to throw that type of money around unless you can get a top coach. If you bring in an unproven coach after that buyout people will expect immediate results. Not only is the pressure on the next coach, it would be on Glass as well. If he bought one more year, the buyout comes down and more named coaches might become available. Glass will effectively put himself behind the 8 ball if he reacts for the sake of reacting. I don't think Crean is the long term solution, but that doesn't make the decision an easy fire. Too many variables. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Haven't really put my two cents in. I am sure there are feelers out there to see whom is available and all that. Beyond that, I would be very surprised to see Crean leave this year. Just don't think there is a coach with a good name out there IU can get. Lets face it. After this experiment, if IU was to make a change it is for a proven commodity we will strongly overpay. If you have to pay $10 million for a buyout at any point, it is going to be for a top 5 coach. Not Woodson. IMO

Somewhere, I see Jaybob sitting back in his rocker on dial up saying, "that's right city boy…"
-
Lol, like I said a couple of weeks ago. The boosters control this situation. Not Glass. Too much money goes into that school to mess with. Glass may talk them off of the ledge this time. It would be the only time. IMO
-
Great example. That is where my head was at. Sorry I didn't make much sense of it.
-
I was saying a fanbase like IU's can't get behind a one and done, as much as they have for someone like Vic. He was a 3 year player who we watched grow every year. If he was one and done, we would tout him. We just wouldn't have the same interest as we do now. If that makes sense.
Oh, I am pretty sure the whiny child is the one who needs to ban mean ole words, not me...I was ridiculing the weakness of anyone offended by an actual medical term that has been around for hundreds of years to describe everything from physical disabilities to mental disabilities...Hey, I didn't write the dictionary, I just quote it...unlike others...but if I am banned, I am banned...I usually only read the recruiting boards anyway with little posting....seems to be a little less "touchy" on that board, imo...that is if I am allowed to have that opinion...let me check the rules...
The way it was used is not as a medical term. If you cannot understand that or why it offends people, then you never will. If you want banned that bad, then why come here? If you feel this is touchy, then you might as well not come here. You may as well go to the board you prefer. We will prefer it too if this is too hard to understand. That will never change. Beyond that, how is that us telling you are not allowed to have an opinion? You might want to check the rules. Again, you are a guest in our free house. Please feel free to act like it at any time.

Lol, I feel like I am witnessing the 5 stages of grief today.

Yep, there is the NBDL and Euro leagues. Kids want to be close to their parents, but want to make money. I would be curious to see what type of money they would make in the NBDL if this went through. Cause, if they struggle, what happens?
