Ha, I remember that night. Shockingly. I was in Bloomington that night. We took to the streets. Everyone.

Recruits do come to these types of places. As a Mod, I know that for a fact. I mean hell, we have been fortunate enough to have Yogi's mom posting here for a little while now. As for the article and sabotage, it has been that way since Knight left. Everyone is measured up against a top 3 coach of all time. Everyone is inadequate compared to him. Outside of Coach K and Billy D, I don't think there is a top 20 coach in the history of this game coaching at the college level now. So in that respect, I think no matter who we have people will continue to act this way. Even when we win a title again it will turn into wondering why we don't win 3 titles in less than 15 years. Knight did it... It will always come back to that for some. I honestly don't know another school that has the loyalty to one man that IU has had for Knight. The way it ended did not allow people closure. We still have this 15 years after the fact. Some of it is about Crean, but not all of it.

There were people who weren't happy with that UK game. They loved that we won, but blasted Crean down the stretch. We should have won by 10. People were pissed we had to be put in that situation to hit that shot. If we had won by 10, would that game be as memorable? Absolutely not. Sometimes things happen for a reason. That was one game that was meant to happen that way.

We had that discussion after they made the title game at our old website. I felt his guards had continually played above expectations, and he had a solid platoon in the middle. Also, he found Stauskas. Same as Crean with Vic. They were praising Crean's eye last year, but would not recognize how hard of a find Stauskas was. Fans are funny man. I would assume being away from them this year, some would still remain skeptical. Its how IU fans were when Crean had that 1st Sweet 16 run. For every good win (UK for example), there would be someone on the board stating how we shouldn't had to hit that last second shot. We blew the lead. That was on Crean. Sometimes fans can't just simply enjoy the moment for whatever reason.

I haven't talked to any of them this year, because we have been here. But going into this season UM fans were did not feel Beilein was the long term solution. If they are anything like IU fans, I don't see their perception changing.
-
They thought it was a fluke. We had UM fans come to our old site and they would tell us he was essentially Crean. A recruiter who couldn't coach at the offensive end. I think they were also upset Crean has done well against them and they knew how our fan base reacts to Crean. I would hope after this year they feel differently, but it is like Crean. There was no changing some of their opinion.
-
UM fans don't even like Beilein. They feel the same about him that we do about Crean. To this day.

Crean has to understand after the year he had journalists are going to be critical of him. If he gets pissy, they will in turn not hold anything back. Journalists are typically reserved due to wanting to keep that relationship strong. I find myself in the middle of both extremes. I can see both sides to the constant arguments here. I have my concerns in his coaching and it has nothing to do with what he runs. It is his feel for the game that has him run what he does. I feel he is out of tune, and that creates bad adjustments or lack thereof. When he is winning, people will ask what more do we want? When we are losing, people want his head because they have noticed this before and won in spite of them. I don't think we won in spite of him, but I do feel he had a better feel for his previous players. He was just not in tune with this team as much as they were not in tune with them. That is my biggest issue with him heading into next year. Mainly because Jordy, Wat, Vic, and Cody aren't walking out on that court anymore. I want someone to approach him on that. Because, that to me is something I have noticed but never seen asked.

Well, being from this area I can tell you he doesn't give two damns about IU. He will continually write about the most emotional state college topic to gain hits. When PU was good and we sucked, it was about PU and Painter. During football it is Notre Dame. Whatever the most emotional subject of the moment is, he writes about it. It worked, he has more hits. I am not saying his writing is completely wrong, but he did it to stir the emotions and create debate. That way he gets more hits. He knows the feeling of Hoosier fans and is playing off of that. Hell, even Dakich didn't do that. That should say something. I do think he was right on in the scheduling department. Glass schedules, but Crean gives him an idea of what he wants. This schedule for the last few years is on Crean. It is a joke and has been clear every year when the B1G starts we aren't ready. I thought he could have taken him to task for actual in game coaching situations. When you are losing, that becomes fair game. This year there were many questionable situations, and nobody has really called Crean out on that. I think if he actually dug deeper, it would have been a better article instead of one clearly intended to gain views.

I am going to lock this thread. It is not staying the course it should have. There are plenty of other threads about Crean. This was about Troy's relationship with Crean. Unfortunate.

He is drawing talent there. Emmanuel Muday (Sp?) was a legit PG he stole from Kentucky for next year. -

Aren't we getting UL at MSG too? If so, our schedule is already leaps and bounds better next year. I just wish he could add a couple of sub 200 teams that are mid-majors. -
Unfortunately, it is. It wouldn't matter if RMK was still the coach. This type of year would create this type of commotion. The only thing I regret as a Mod is not seeing this thread sooner. A 19 year old kid was showing his appreciation for his coach turned into this. There are going to be threads for frustration after this type of season. This one should have been different.

Ha, I think that is the one thing all Hoosier Nation can agree on.

Hopefully the arrest wakes him up. He has the opportunity of a lifetime with his size and athleticism to improve. If he takes advantage of this it is never too late. With him we are probably 2 bigs still short unless we run some very small lineups out there. We better run like its a track meet if that is the case.
-
Absolutely. That is our best chance going forward. I hope Yogi gets more efficient. That with those two if they improve can be dangerous. Unless we find a clog for our soon to be gaping hole in the middle this point is limited. However, those 3 if all are improved, it could mask a lot of issues.
-
I hope so. That kid has pro potential. If one thing, Crean gets his wings to be better. Outside of that, it is debatable. If Troy trusts Crean, that is all the better. He made wings who have trusted him better.
-
When he moved too fast that is when he got into trouble. Vic was the same way as a freshman. Crean doesn't do the best of slowing down the players. That is a weakness with his guards I do not like. It will take Troy in the gym doing the drills to slow the game down. He will at the same time gain IQ. Every player can improve by being in the gym, but you cannot teach that size and bounce.
-
Thought John graduated to JMHO?
-
If there is one thing Crean is good with it is wings. Most of his wings improved their handle from year to year. IF Troy works on his handle, he could be good. IF he works on his handle and shot ala Vic, he could be really good. Not sure he has that IT factor Vic had, but he could be a good one.

Come on guys. Lets get this on topic. This thread is about Troy Williams respect for Crean. There are plenty of threads out there for every person's taste. I have posted in all of them. I feel it is respectful to keep this thread staying on course for its intended purpose. Same as the fire Crean thread. That thread can be about debating why Crean should stay or go. I have not seen one thing saying something about things Troy improved on or did not throughout the course of the year. That is what this should be about. Not blanket statements about Crean. Enough threads out there to post thoughts in.

I am assuming he is, or there would be more out there than a random guy saying this in passing on an IU forum.

Apparently, he has a mangina made from Larry Bird's finest stache. Also, he likes to have sex with animals to pass time. Those ISU fans…

Damn, and I was just having fun with his profile.
