I know there are more than 31 people with an opinion.

What do you mean?

No wrong answer here ladies and gentleman. This is purely a prediction for the future. No sunshine. No doom and gloom. This is when/do you see the program making a change. The more votes, the better. Gives us a better idea of where people truly stand with numbers to back it up. If you guys want me to add anything else to the poll, let me know.

That is fair. I was curious to see if anyone truly thought this year or next. So far, no.

Lol, I am guessing this one will get more views than anything for a few days. Just curious of the crazy bunch we have here.
It is the same that it has always been. I started posting on sports message boards in 1995 or 1996...the original IndyStar boards did not even require registration, anyone could post under any name they saw fit for any given post. RMK fan versus anti-RMK fan was very much a thing at that time leading up to Bobby's firing. Of course the dynamic was different, obviously RMK had an established track record. But the anti-RMK sentiment was based on the game passing him by and the time being right for a chance. During the Mike Davis era/fiasco, whichever description you prefer, you had the dynamic of people who would defend the existing coach to death versus those who did not buy in. Although honestly a lot of the MD debate in his early days revolved around RMK loyalists against people who wanted to give the new coach a chance. One of the unfortunate side affects of the Internet in general is that people start to take their own opinion too seriously and they start rooting for their own opinion just to have the chance to tell the other guy/gal that hey, I called it and in your face! I'm right and you are wrong! Even if we root for the same freaking team! But...it is the way it has been for a long time. The advent of the Tom Crean era at IU did not start the trend, it simply is the way the internet works.
Nailed it Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

^^^^ I am sure I will piss some people off with that. Sorry if I offended anyone. I just want people to act like adults. I really don't want to have to deal with this "I told you so" crap from either side anymore. Neither side is right at this point. Neither side will ever truly know how much goes into a decision such as this. His basketball coaching abilities at this point aren't everything to the university. If people quit donating at record numbers, then his in game coaching will be a problem.

Indiana vs. Nebraska Post Game Thread
mdn82 replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That one hurt. -
I just don't see why one group didn't participate in a game thread. As long as you don't act like an ass and can play with the rules, you should come on the game thread. If you can't get your point across during a game without acting like a jackass you shouldn't be on there. If you can't make it through a game without saying xxxx player or coach is an idiot (because it is personal), you shouldn't be on there. If you said, "I don't understand why xxxx player or coach did…" then you are fine. I am going to take that as you saying you don't think a group of people can play by the rules. If that is the case they shouldn't be on during the game. We value everyone who participates in any thread, but this us vs. them attitude is getting to be complete bullshit. I graduated from IU. I live and breath that damn school. We are all here for the same damn reason. It is sad that a group of grown ass men can't hold a conversation without being butthurt at someone not holding their opinion on a subject. Heaven forbid we disagree on the internet. There is no right or wrong in this. I wish people would realize that. If Crean gets fired in 3 years, who is right? I can sling shit at a wall and see if it sticks too. After 5 years of him not being fired are the people saying he will be fired wrong? Or do they keep on saying it will happen at any time? Seriously, this is the one thread that could be open for years. I hope we are able to keep it open until he does get fired so we can look back at some of the ridiculous "absolutes" throughout here. I love you guys, but you can really kill a good buzz. …. drops mic :shout:

Why not?

Yeah, I am about ready to start a poll lol. Seems like the best way to resolve this.

OT: Brenton Scott Arrested While W/Alex Etherington
mdn82 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Ouch. I know Bryson does his own fair share of things, but he hasn't thrown his twin under the bus yet to the police. Man, that will be the talk of Fort Wayne tomorrow. Can't wait to go to work with that little nugget. -
The good news is when they caught it. He will be able to maintain a happy and healthy life now. He just has to watch what he does, but with the diagnosis comes some level of control. So happy for the kid they found it now. I heard this and thought back to Hank Gathers. He fainted on the court, and then games later died from this same exact disorder. Glad for PU in the sense he can graduate and not count against the numbers. They can help him without hurting themselves. He deserves it. That is the one rule the NCAA got right.

How huge was that? A win against a top 25 team without Noah Vonleh? Oh yeah, the tournament committee will remember that. I think after that game we are back to needed 2 more wins to get in to the tournament. We have to beat Nebraska, and win either one of UM (on road) or BTT game. This is just the weirdest IU team I have followed in my 31 years of life. Our crowd was dead. Our team was flat to start. No Noah Vonleh for this one. We turned the ball over close to 20 times. We won. How? In the most impressive stat I have seen in some time, we had 16 assists on 24 makes. OSU had 5 assists today. That is the key winning stat. Another huge one is without Noah we still out rebounded them 34 to 32. We had 18 turnovers. They had 14. This was a huge win, we played a large roll in. I don't want to minimize that with what I am about to add. However, OSU did as much to lose, as we did to win. They went 0-11 from 3. They had 5 assists. They also shot 14-23 from the line. Make no mistake about it. We won this, but they helped us. It was nice to be on this side of it for once. We are usually the ones leading at half only to lose it. We have lost more games this year, than teams have truly beat us if you think about it. This was one of those games where they lost it. As we can see from our W-L record, it doesn't who causes it, only matters who wins it. Individually, I thought we punched them in the mouth, and they couldn't react. They thought without Noah today, they would walk over us. You could tell by the crowd. You could tell by demeanor of both teams. Somehow, some way, we woke up long enough to realize we could truly win with an inspired effort. I have to start this one with Hanner Mosquera-Perea. There were people who put up more points, but few were bigger than the big fella. He had 8 points, 5 boards, and 3 blocks in this one. He just played in control all night, and his performance cannot be overstated. Will and Yogi each had big games today. Yogi was not as efficient in his 20 points, but they were huge all the same. Will had 19 points and 6 boards, to go along with 4 steals. That is one senior who doesn't want to finish college in the NIT. Another senior who had a decent game is Evan Gordon. He gave us 9 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Jeremy and Austin did not have the numbers to back up their performances, but each brought something that was much needed. Some good intensity. This was just a weird game. There are so many things that can be said about what got us to the W. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is the W. It was something that was needed. It was something that put us in a position to not count ourselves out of a chance. A chance to steal a tournament spot. Every year, teams with 18 wins make the tournaments. They typically have a season like ours. Wins against the top teams, and bad losses. Still at this point, the only way we feel good is by getting to 19 wins before selection Sunday. I am done trying to sound like I have this team figured out. I don't think Tom Crean can truthfully say he feels 100% of anything about this team. Until next time ladies and gents.

Ha, #2 was spelled too good.

Lmao, that is actually kind of funny.

But that is the thing though. I know you are a smart dude, and I know you know that a huge part of CTC offense is the break and the secondary break. Getting quick shots before the defense gets set. Our half court leaves a lot to be desired for. A lot of people said the same thing with Pitino's Cardinals last year before they got going. It is amazing how much shots falling skews the perception. There are only a handful of teams that truly run a solid half court man. I mean that sincerely, because this argument is so old. Watch a team for 30+ games and try to not pick apart an aspect of their game. I think only Coach K and Billy Donovan run an offense that is "appealing" to me. Beyond that, everyone runs a gimmick offense that is based on players being able to make plays. Those 2 coaches put players in good spots consistently. They are the only 2 coaches who I can say that about that I have watched regularly.

This is where I am. I can't remember the last time we have been this entrenched on the bubble to not know either way. People will either laugh at us, or bitch because we got in because of our name.
-
I think he has some serious in game faults. I know after beating Wisconsin nobody had more top 25 wins than us over the last 3 seasons other than Kansas. I am not sure where things stand on that now, but the dude gets them ready to play. I am not saying it is always pretty. It is not. I am often disappointed and confused on the offensive side. Its funny because we were a top offensive team last year. People still hated it. At this point, I think people either like him, or they don't. As a mod, I have seen this conversation a bunch. It is one of the most tiring arguments and always ends the same way. I just don't want to see people get banned over something so stupid that literally has been beaten to death, revived, and beaten to death again.
-
The only thing I was saying is we are not a good road team. This team gets rattle easily. They are young. Young kids have short memory when things are going well. I would like to see us on the road now.
-
^^^^^ What this guy said. People have an opinion of Crean based on other things besides his coaching. In this thread, I have seen him called a snake, and a used car salesman. That has nothing to do with coaching, which is what those same people pointed to as the reason he shouldn't be here. I am guessing coaching isn't really what they dislike about the man.

Guess we will see this year how much beating better teams is worth to the tournament committee or having a tougher schedule you don't win the games. If we get to 19 wins, I would hope we are in because of the teams we have beat. Unfortunately, beating Nebraska will be a double edge sword. We beat them, and we lessen them. It doesn't do what it should to our RPI. We don't hold an edge on them since we split at home. So, we gain very little. That said, we have a lot to lose if we lose that game. UM on the road does not look good for us. We have not been a good road team. That will probably hold weight in our chances. I am just not a fan of saying our schedule sucked so we should be out. Those other teams did have better schedules, but didn't win any of those games. We beat better teams, and lost to worse teams than them. Depends on how much stock is put into better wins.
-
Back off of the ledge everyone or this is getting locked. No need for the pot shots on either sides. I laid out the ways to close this. No need for the drama. Stop making everything personal, even if it is toward Crean.

I think it is the same it has been, but with 3 games in a week stuff like this happens. I wasn't too surprised I guess. If we make a deep run in the BTT he won't play all of the games I would assume. I just hope he hasn't been dealing with something a little more for a while.
