    A program of excuses

No, I do agree with that.  You would be shocked to know how frustrated I am with this team.  I am also level headed about it.  Extremes only get people on your ass with a microscope trying to pick apart your every word.  I also think even the biggest "sunshine pumper" would agree with you on many aspects of frustration with the team.  It is just typically how it is relayed that gets people frustrated.  Trust me.  My best friends include a UK, UL, and IU fans.  My family is mainly made up of PU fans.  Arguing is what I do.  Lol

Same as UL.  Can't step in that state.  I would probably pick Oregon due to facilities and Nike support.  Maybe a Stanford.  That would be a stretch.  NC State would be up there.  Texas would get good support.

Hell, I would leave Marquette for probably 20+ schools.  Guess that would be an excuse.

So, we are either a realist or a sunshine pumper eh?  That is what you call that?  If sounding like I am on the third day of a period with every breath I take is being a realist then I would rather be a sunshine pumper if you put it like that.  I can get my pot shot in too…   Edit:  I know my humor is typically a little dry, so I will add I am just joking.  I just think it is unnecessary to add that in when that may be the single most idiotic statement on a sports site.  People disagree.  That is why we are able to discuss.  Because they don't want to slit their wrists over a recruiting coordinator leaving after 2 years not thinking it is the end of the world does not make them less of a realist.  Agree?

    Hollowell to Georgia State

Made the most sense from the get go.  Hunter's boy is the man.  Him and Jeremy were friends growing up.

No matter what he would do he would be losing.  He is doing the best thing he can do and that is to stay silent.  100% agree there.

Every decision has been the wrong one?  Lol, dramatic much?  You do realize as those teams sit today that every team on that list (Butler minus Stevens) is what they were 15 years ago?  Outside of UW.  Their program is better.  The rest?  MSU was a title contender.  UK was a title contender.  UL was just becoming a title contender.  OSU was usually around the Sweet 16 to Final Four every couple of years.  UM would have stretches of 2 years then fall back into oblivion.  Butler without Stevens is a mid-major.  Now UW.  They have improved.  Those other schools?  They are the same as are we to when Knight was leaving.  We won the B1G outright.  You guys act like we were winning titles the day he left.  It was over 10 years before he left.  We were typically getting bounced early.  This year was a bad year.  No way around that.  Every team has them.  I know it is easy to forget history, but lets not ignore it either.

Why is it an excuse?  Hell, I would have said the same thing and I am a homer.  That is called reasoning.  Very different.  There is like 6 schools that it doesn't matter you are, you go there.  That is reasoning.

    Kj's replacement

Agreed.  Their parents were probably younger than they were when that team was around.

    Kj's replacement

I want the most personable person out there with ties to a distinct area like KJ.  He has to have personality and be on the same page as Crean.  I do not care if he went to IU, because kids today most likely would not know him or would have watched him.  Mainly due to him not having personal ties in the area and he didn't make a lasting impression on the NBA.  I just want a guy who could walk into a gym and a kid feels good about seeing him.  Whether it is because he is with IU or because of who he is as a man.

So now you need an excuse to leave Marquette for Indiana?  Hmm…  I don't know about that.

You know, I truly think he learned that from Knight.  Knight had the fire to coach, but did not have the fire to recruit any longer.  In the 70s he could get by on recruiting main stays from Indiana with plugging and playing from outside while being a great coach.  By the 90s, NCAA was much too national with ESPN.  Kids from every state were no longer interested in staying close to home just so their family could see them.  You could see them on TV now.  Not saying Knight was slow to adapt, but he wasn't going to win another title at IU and that much was painfully obvious after 93.  With Coach K, he could every year.  That is all you can ask for in a coach.  Early exits happen.  A team of nobodies can get hot at the wrong time.  We have seen it, as has every top team.

    Kenny Johnson to Louisville

"Speculation always percolates when an assistant coach changes jobs, but this one isn’t difficult to analyze. Johnson is a determined up-and-comer who will run his own program one day. "

(2014) C Jeremiah April to IU

I think we got in on name recognition lol.  He knows nothing about our offense.  I could see Shooter walking in with an IU cell cover, IU shirt, Candy Stripe pants, and IU folder saying, "IU Biatches"…  April nods his head approvingly and says, "yes it is".

They are nuts.  You know how people here put Knight on a pedestal?  He couldn't recruit like Coach K could at the end of his career.  That to me is the most impressive aspect about Coach K.  He still has the fire to go out and get a Parker, Okafor, and Jones.  That to me is incredible.

That Hoosier eye test is lethal.  Been dealing with it for years on these boards.

It's 2008, a look into the Crystal Ball

Pretty accurate article.  Going back to the Scout days like JS did, we heard this when he was hired.  At that time people were most excited about him being clean.  We knew our options were limited and had a good idea of who turned us down before we got to Crean.  It wasn't exactly a who's who list behind Crean.  People weren't exactly knocking down the door to take over a team decimated by NCAA Violations and transfers.  Dude was pretty accurate.  I am sure on the way out, someone will write something similar from an IU perspective.  This program and facilities have been upgraded largely in part to Crean.

    Kenny Johnson to Louisville

      Yep.

    Kenny Johnson to Louisville

After we were out of the gutter from Sampson, Crean won't have the luxury of what Davis had?  Better under Davis?  14-15 followed up with 15-14 and he was given another year.  Better under Davis?  That won't happen again.  Davis didn't understand this is Indiana?  He sure as hell was an assistant under Knight for a few years.  He knew what Indiana had, but he wasn't about to recruit Indiana the Bob Knight way.  The administration wanted the exact opposite of Knight.  I am guessing even to the worst Crean haters, the thought of being better under Davis is a laughing matter.

    Kenny Johnson to Louisville

I can honestly respect that.  I feel the same.  I am of the mind he has taken us from the gutter to here and the next hire will have to take us further.  Whether or not that is the case remains to be seen.  If we have a similar year next year, we will know.

    A program of excuses

He makes questionable coaching decisions.  I get that.  So does Coach K if you watch him for 30+ games.  People act like Crean is the only one.  I am not a fan of his offense leaving the decisions in the players hands.  I would prefer an offense that makes decisions for them.  I would prefer a smaller rotation.  Beyond that, recruiting is not my issue of the man if we are being real.  If you are a guard, you will flourish here.  As a big?  You will get inconsistent touches in the paint.

    Kenny Johnson to Louisville

Lol, who are we pulling that has won a title?   Come on man.  Excuse?  Who is going to leave their team that won a title?  As for Kenny you can read any one of my other posts I just posted on this.  You need to look around to see how common this is for a successful recruiting coordinator.

    Kenny Johnson to Louisville

And that is fair, but losing Kenny is not the end of IU.  We recruited arguably more successful before Kenny got here under Crean. Kenny did fantastic, but he did not bring in Cody, Vic, Will, Wat, Hulls, Yogi, etc….  Coaching may very well be our issue, but recruiting will not be.  This is typical progression of a successful recruiting coordinator.  He was good.  He should get a bump up, but lets not act like recruiting sucked before he got here.
