Big Ten Coach of Year Prediction
mdn82 replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think that is why we rarely see a coach fired the first time he has a crap season. Two bad seasons in a row would be hard to overcome at IU. I put a lot of blame on him both good and bad last year. If Vic doesn't improve that greatly the prior year we have Vic last year. It was obvious as soon as Cody came back he was gone after his soph season. Ultimately a lot of failure we had on the court is a direct result of the amount of turnover we have on this team. No continuity last year and to me a lot of that starts at the top. Big Ten Coach of Year Prediction
mdn82 replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I have to disagree with a few things here. If any organization with high expectations not just IU fails, then it falls on leadership. You talk about execution by the players, but isn't that a direct representation of the preparation from the coaching staff? I don't think he should get fired, but the kids not executing are the ones he brought in. The turmoil was again caused by players he recruited. It sucks being I charge, but he is absolutely responsible for the play on the court and their actions off of it. IMO Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Sporting News Picks IU to finish 10th in B1G

Glad we actually play the games. If we did finish like this, Crean shouldn't have a job here. Won't happen though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

No such thing as a little Zeller. They are all pushing 7 feet. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I agree with Dalton on this. Sorry, couldn't reply from work. Its not unfathomable. We have one of the top 10 backcourts in America now. Its our frontcourt that is sorely lacking. If you add someone like this that can not only move, but take the ball up the court? Wow. This dude is legit, but I don't believe his commit would be as huge for IU now, as Cody Zeller was in 2010 (YET). Back then we were questioning not only would IU ever land another top recruit, but would Indiana bring in players from this state who could go anywhere. Cody Zeller was such a Knight type of prospect it got the whole fanbase excited about IU basketball in a way I hadn't seen in 20 years. Maybe I just see it differently than others which is fine. That is just why I feel the way I do. That is why I think someone like Thon Maker could be as important. The same as when Zeller came there is a huge need in the frontcourt. Backcourt is solid. That is the same. He isn't the Indiana boy that Zeller is, which can't be understated imo. He is a superior talent at this stage that could be an even bigger impact player than Zeller. That is where he could be as big if not bigger than Zeller.

Better player? Absolutely. I just don't see offices shutting down to watch this kids announcement. The donations this program received after we started getting the Zellers of Indiana was huge for the program. I think only if we win a title with that kid would it be bigger for the program. I think the average student at IU will not know enough about Davis to boo. They will know he took us to our last title game. That is what they know. So I would expect a respectful environment with hostility only if he does something outlandish. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

HoosierHoops I will say Biggie Swanigan was playing up a year in AAU. Trey Lyles did the same thing after his Frosh and Soph seasons, and put up similar numbers. Nobody would question his abilities. Biggie also grew 2 inches since he played in that and lost 30 pounds. Very few kids who play up in age in AAU have crazy numbers until they are forced to play with kids their own age unless they are THE talent. To me, the dude plays like Zach Randolph. Seen them both. They have the same body and coordination around the rim that will play anywhere. He won't be Shaq, but he will be pretty good.

(2015) JUCO PF Ray Kasongo

To this day I do not know how Randolph made it to college for one year. He got suspended a few times while at Marion for grades as well as getting arrested for guns. -
I trust Crean's eye, but I would be shocked if this kid could play for this team right now. Depth? He is already behind players such as Priller and April. He missed a whole summer of workouts and practice. That is huge in today's game. Especially for a player who would have to carve a role on this team. Personally, I would rather run 4 guards out there for 25 mpg + with Troy guarding the opposing 4 (and DD getting the bulk of the other min) than trying to be traditional when our lineup doesn't dictate that. Our strength will be our guard play. We will be smaller. We have to play to our strengths. I would be pleasantly shocked if this kid could come in August/September and get more than 5 mpg.

Ha, is Crean still evaluating recruits for Izzo? -
Ha, is it bad something like this made my day?

It kind of scares me that we are still recruiting 2014 at this point. Impact talent in August? Can't say I have seen that before.
