Indy Eleven - Thoughts, Opinions, Banter
HystericalHoosier posted a topic in IUHoosier Soccerballers in the Pros
What are everyone's views on the new NASL team that has its first official game on Saturday? Anyone going? Do you follow the team? Will it continue its success that it has had in selling tickets? I heard that they sold the 7,000 season tickets pretty quickly. I've heard doubts from some people as to whether or not it will last. I'm hoping it will, but I don't live in Indy, so I don't know much about the support for it. -

I just love the last few words of the opening paragraph "coach an effective style of play, and win" -

I should retire eventually, looks like a great time to do that now! Who wants to co-own my timeshare?! -

You gotta love it when people blow things out of proportion... CFB and CBB are two TOTALLY different things.... -

Obviously, losing Halstead was going to put a damper on the season. But honestly, isn't baseball all about just getting through the struggles? I really wouldn't worry about how the team is performing or under-performing until closer to the end of the season. This is nowhere near the time to but this team to bed. -

Love this team, lots of fight, lots of grit. May drop a few here and there, but that's baseball. Let's prove the doubters of northern baseball wrong again! #IUBASE -
What is your favorite thing about IU?
HystericalHoosier replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Off Topic Forum
My advice: get involved. If you think you might enjoy something, go out and do it, even if its just for a little while. If you don't think you will like it, go to the call-out meetings for the free food. I lived in Teter, and while it may not have been the most glamorous, I lived on a co-ed floor. So. Much. Hookups. IU is a different experience for everyone, depending on what they chose to do with their opportunities. Take yours, and do with them what you will. Just make sure you can't look back and say, "What if?" -
Hollowell & Etherington transferring..
HystericalHoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My mom has always told me "Communication is a receiver phenomenon". It all depends on how the person being spoken to interprets the message. Even with the most careful of deliberations, words can still come across with a different meaning than what one wants. -
OT: NCAA @ it's FINEST!

But he did hire (or at least keep) the coach, did he not? By that token, meeting with and having the coach succeed would fall under the "control of employees who get paid". I also don't think you can put individual success on a different plane than team success. It's all athletics, right? Not saying he should get paid for any of it, but if it's done for basketball, why shouldn't it be done for tennis? -

In case you guys missed it, Jeremy just followed several Auburn accounts on Twitter...possible destination for both him and PU transfer Ronnie Johnson -
Stuck in the most boring class right now, need conversation. Hop in the chat room for the next hour to get me through my Comp. Lit. class. Thanks
-
Wow are you out of touch. Everyday, I see the freshmen chilling together. Stan and Troy are peanut butter and jelly. Luke was here over the summer with Collin, they even had classes together. Off-court friendships have grown, or at least as far as I can see. They are always with each other, heck, most of them live with each other!
-
Fair enough. Just wanted to see if the chat room worked, haven't heard of its use much
-
I will literally talk anything you want. I just need something other than going over poetry...
-
Also, wasn't Jeremy's suspension several games after Luke decided to transfer? If there is any time gap at all, I say the fights weren't the issue. Still, could have been a completely different season on multiple levels had Luke stayed. Possibly more success, but then what happens to the minutes/progression of Davis, Perea, and even Hollowell?
-
I HIGHLY doubt that if the coach changed right now the success would come as quickly as some of you think it would. As some have pointed out, you would want the next big coach. Well, that means they don't have the background in much, so recruiting would be hard, meaning classes wouldnt be what the coach might want, and therefore wouldn't have as big of expectations. Sounds like a never-ending cyle until the program finds stability to me...

Wednesday, Ryan Halstead came away from the Hoosiers' tussle with Xaiver with more than he had bargained for. The closer, who leads IU all-time in saves, ended up tearing his ACL when his cleat got caught in the turf as he tried to make a play on a ball hit to his left side. He will undergo surgery for the tear, ending his season. The Hoosiers still have Scott Effross in the bullpen to carry on the relief duties, but it will still be a big blow to the team who has aspirations of returning to the College World Series. How will this effect the rest of the season? Only time will tell.

Injury Ends Halstead's Season
HystericalHoosier replied to HystericalHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
UPDATE: Halstead just tweeted out: Thanks to everyone for all the support I'll be pitching for the Hoosiers again just gotta put that work in first As far as I can tell, that means he will take a medical redshirt this season, forgo the draft, and come back next year. HUGE EDIT: I would put the actual tweet in, but my mind is failing me with technology today -
Thats what everyone said about Cody too though...

Halstead ended up tearing his ACL, and will undergo season-ending knee surgery -
Injuries can also hamper draft stock. I realize Noah didn't tear his ACL, but look at Noel, who had a decent season up to that point, got injured, then still talked about going first overall up until draft night. I also realize there is very little defense that is played in the league, but Noah seems to struggle playing D on people either bigger than him or faster than him; his lateral movement leaves something to be desired, at least for me. He picks up easy fouls, and that has taken him out of several games this year. I give him a 60% chance of staying

#IUMS vs Penn State
HystericalHoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
Two straight scoreless performances? 4-6-1 on the year entering October? I don't like the odds trying to make postseason at this point. Maybe I'm being too negative, but I don't see IU getting an at-large bid with their record, meaning they would need to win the Big Ten tournament for an automatic bid. Not saying they can't, but the outlook isn't good. Thoughts?
