    A Different Bracket For Y'all

WOW I can't believe UNC lost in the first round in an Academic Bracket....          Dang it I can't find the darn Sarcastic Font        :cheese:  :cheese:  :ninja:  :ninja:

Prediction League 1st Round NCAAs IU vs Chattanooga

Don't think this will be in doubt very early...   IU 96 Mocs 66   Priller Time!!!!

    Indiana's first NCAA Opponent: Chattanooga

The starting five: 6-10 redshirt junior Justin Tuoyo vs Thomas Bryant = As long as Bryant stays out of foul trouble I see no issues here, same height and Bryant is just a bit bigger (10 lbs)... 6-7 junior forward Chuck Ester vs Collin Hartman = Again same size players, Ester is an inside player with very few 3pt attempts and has a TO problem. Don't think he can guard Collin around the perimeter. 6-5 redshirt junior Tre McLean vs Troy Williams = Troy is taller and stronger. As long as good Troy is in the building this should be a match-up we can take advantage of. 6-2 junior guard Greg Pryor vs Rob Johnson = Rob is taller but Pryor is a little stronger. If Rob is healthy I think Pryor is completely shut down. 6-4 senior guard Eric Robertson vs Yogi = Well this is Yogi's world, The Mocs just live in it!   Not to downplay this match-up but I really see no chance that this is even a close game...

Who is your upset picks in the round of 64?

No offense but you just picked 10 out of 12 games as upsets (those 3 seed lines) .... With odds like that it will be easy to look back later and say, see I told you x would upset y... You can't honestly believe all 10 will be upsets, or even more than 3...
  6. I don't get how the selection committee can swear they don't set matchups on purpose... No reason either us or UK shouldn't have been in the South with the potential to play in Louisville, other than to purposely set up this matchup...

Is the glass half empty or half full?

Huge shot yes... Clutch shot, not in my opinion considering time and score in that game... OG is a freshman and I understand there will be issues because of that, just saying I was happy with the play, didn't work out but I thought it was a good play. Not blaming the whole loss on Yogi or OG or Troy or any individual...

    Bracketology/NCAA Postioning

I feel like Cal would try to run with us and I'm confident that there isn't a team on the country who can be successful against us with that gameplan... Arizona scares me, Iowa state is usually overrated but Niang is tough...

    Bracketology/NCAA Postioning

This is worst case scenario in my mind.... I would want to be in any bracket besides the Virginia Bracket.... Playing against Virginia gives me flashbacks to playing against Syracuse.... not at all the same defense, but GREAT defense that you don't see everyday.... Yikes...   Before that though I would rather play Stony Brook than Akron or South Dakota State... wouldn't mind UNC-Wilmington. And Cal is the #5 seed I would most like to play... of these projections...

Is the glass half empty or half full?

All the talk about the last possession and how Yogi should have the ball, but OG was having a career game. Watching it live I was not upset that he had the ball, I was scared when Troy started to drive but once he dished to OG I thought we were in a good place... It didn't turn out well.   As far as Yogi goes, he has never shown me the ability to hit the big shots... I understand wanting our undeniable BEST player to have the ball in his hands at the end, but that just doesn't give me much confidence.   I hate to place the blame on any 1 person (and I am not) but the missed free throw by Yogi was huge.... That changes the game from a 3 point game to a 4 point game... Who knows what would have happened next but I would be willing to be that in that situation Michigan tries to get in the lane and score a 2 point basket, leaving us up 2 and then they would have to foul.... I guess you can always play the what if games though...

Is the glass half empty or half full?

Half Empty - We didn't look good defensively... The pick and rolls killed us repeatedly.... The looks they got from 3 were wide open (not the game winner though).   Half Full - If this takes us from the bottom of the 3 seed line to the TOP of the 4 or 5 seed line could that be a good thing as far as location? How far down the seeding line does the committee consider location? If this loss moves us from potentially Anaheim or Philadelphia and moves us to Louisville or Chicago even... that is a good thing.   Or if it moves our first round game from Spokane/Denver  to St Louis.... then this loss could prove very helpful....

How much difference is there between the 2?   The 36 best teams most likely contain at least 33 of the best resumes.... And the 36 best resumes are most likely owned by at least 33 of the best (eye test) teams.... so we are talking about trying to differentiate between those last few outliers.... (numbers are just the guess of a hoops junkie, I have no data to back up this claim)   I think the eye test is appropriate when considering how a team finished the season (which they supposedly don't consider anymore)... but when it comes to an entire season if the team really looks that good then they should have put together a good looking resume.   I have only watched a small amount of Wichita St this year for example but I wouldn't necessarily consider them one of the 36 best... maybe I have just seen there off games and not when they are looking great but I would have Michigan, Pitt, Syracuse ahead of them and maybe Uconn, Cincinnati, Ohio St. as well...

And I agree with the Committee chair... to pretend he's not a difference maker is a mistake.   That doesn't mean they won't consider the games without him at all... just that he understands the fact that the team was playing without him...   I don't really know what he was saying but that is how I took it.   And again not trying to argue, I was just legitimately curious on your (& biteoftheapple) opinion on a coach not mattering and not factoring into a teams existence/record/etc.... Just thought interesting conversation.

I can see this line of thinking... counting the losses as part of the punishment basically.   I do think the games will be considered, just maybe not quite as heavily as the games when Boeheim was at the helm.... The punishment is the losses during the suspension and I agree they should be considered losses, but just think that if i was on the committee and my job was to put the best teams in the bracket I would have to consider the facts that some of their losses were endured without their leader.

But isn't the coach part of the team? So a 14 (I think 15 wins actually) win season out of 20 games isn't good? That equates to around a 20-21 win season if it were out of 30 games... Not #1 seed worthy, but a Major Conference team with that type of record almost surely makes the tourney yearly...   Gard I believe is in a different situation but he is 13-6 in the 19 games he has coached this season... extrapolate that using the same method I did for Boeheim and that is a 19 win season and most likely missing the bubble.... most certainly on the bubble... he has 4 good wins and 1 bad loss....  I think they will be very happy to use the whole season as a measuring stick here.   Also we are talking about missing games from a HOF coach and using an assistant to leas the team.... vs Missing games from a 1st time head coach and in that time having a HOF coach leading the team.

Just curious why you feel this way? To me Coaching definitely matters... there is a reason the Elite teams are elite and I know some/a lot of it has to do with talent level but to me coaching changes everything... 4-5 Record without the Head Coach 15-8 Record with the Head Coach   Depending on the coach it matters a lot... if a HOF coach is missing that changes things, if a 3rd year coach at a small program is suspended 9 games the outcomes probably aren't any different.   *** Not to bash on Crean at all here, but I can't count how many times I have heard that other coaches could have won national titles with our talent but Crean couldn't....

    Injury Updates- JW/ROJO/CH/OG

Again I don't know if it matters what they are wearing in practice, but JBJ was dressed but not in the same uniforms as everybody else... My guess was kinda like a Red jersey for the QB.... he is doing some light drills but not a part of full practice.... but again just an extrapolation based on clothing and based on a few pictures from twitter.... so... Grain of salt.

Rob Johnson & Juwan Morgan were dressed for practice... Not sure if they actually practiced or anything... Just per Twitter they were both dressed... Seems to be a good sign
