I would love to see Him really exceed. In fact I would prefer a coach who can take average talent and develop them vs a coach who only exceeds with top talent. That said, the paid scouts ranked him low didn't they? Combined with the collection of offers from low mid majors the paid coaches were not willing to bet on him yet either. There were some suggestions that a year at prep school and he would likely be a big time recruit but it is hard to argue he is that now. With our limited depth in the middle there will be opportunities for him. I am hopeful he uses this year to improve and instead of blowing up at a prep school lets just have him do that here. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
I was meaning more of Crean and his staff but I get what you're saying. I do think a year at prep school would've done wonders for his recruitment so I might be a little bias in my assessment of him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
From rupp rafters about Holt. I know, I know. But you know what they say, keep your enemies closer. ----------------------------------------- I live about 15 mins from his hs. I saw him play in sectionals here in rochester ny where i live, he dominated but everything came from the post, very under sized at college level and pretty hilarious that IU signed him. I remember looking him up to see college choices and couple D1 schools from the area that are awful, good for the kid but trust me he isnt major conf material. I'll be shocked if he plays at all. If this tells you anything i heard a couple days ago just bc hes from here and my jaw dropped, had to check twice. -----------------------//------------------- Anyway, just a FWIW to keep our expectations in check.
To be fair, I'll go ahead and trust the guys actually paid to evaluate his talent. But yeah interesting perspective. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I searched but couldn't find a topic on this guy. Four star guard that tweeted his final six today, which included Indiana. He told me Indiana called him last week and are "very interested" and want him to come up for a visit in the fall. He is also very interested, so I'll keep an eye on him. With the Donovan Mitchell news today, it seems to me that the staff knew they were out with DM and moved to this guy. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I could see guards staying (wonder if Zman gets Roth type deal???), but I suspect we have 2 or more likely 3 spots overall next spring/summer. It will be interesting but It's too early to think it through.
Guards. I don't foresee anyone in general leaving for pro ball, but transfers will probably happen though. Yeah we can't really worry about it now though. It's still only august. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
I don't think we NEED a guard in 2015 if Yogi, JB, Stan, Rob, and Zman return. However if anyone of them don't return, guard will be a big need. I think we need a 5 and a 4. Or 2 4's with one being an under the basket type and one being a stretch type. It's harder for me to judge now, because I don't know who will return next year.
I personally don't foresee any of them leaving, but a lot can happen between now and next April. I love alternate uniforms to wear a couple times a year. I really don't see it as a big deal, but tradition means more to others so I get why some despise any change the uniform. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I'm generally a positive guy regarding IUBB, but we should not be in a situation where this guy is an option for us, especially this late in the game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

-- The Ray Kasongo front began to heat up Sunday, with Corey Evans tweeting that Indiana was making a hard push for the 2014 forward. Kasongo was supposed to visit Michigan State Tuesday, but Adam Zagoria reported that Kasongo was instead down to Indiana and LSU. Kasongo's 247Sports Crystal Ball became increasingly Crimson this week. In an article this week on InsideTheHall, Kasongo said Indiana has "been telling me I could potentially start from day one.” Kasongo will officially visit Indiana next Monday, and Indiana is considered the leaders as of right now. -- Staying on the topic of 2014 recruiting–yes it's still a thing–Indiana will host 2015 F Emmitt Holt next Tuesday. He's being recruited as a member of the 2014 class. -- 2015 G Bryant Crawford cut his list to seven. IU is still in the mix. -- 2016 F T.J. Leaf trimmed his list to ten. Indiana remains in contention. -- 2015 C Stephen Zimmerman scheduled in-home visits; no Hoosiers as of now. Zimmerman's mom told me, however, that Indiana has requested a visit, but a date hasn't been finalized yet. -- 2015 C Nick Marshall visited Memphis. -- 2015 G Terance Mann, who the Hoosiers recently began showing interest in, has scheduled an official visit to Arizona State later this month. -- 2015 G Prince Ali will visit UCLA and Louisville in a few weeks. -- 2015 F Derrick Jones cut his list to eight. Indiana is no longer in contention. Note: I think this covers just about every somewhat relevant to IUBB recruiting. If I missed something or you want to add on, please comment below.

Not much happening this week on the recruiting front, but there is one big update that could have massive ramifications for the upcoming season. It may be a risk to take this guy (if Ray does want to come here), but it's a risk Crean might have to take. I'll gladly take Kasongo on the court. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Thanks guys. From what I've read, I do think he would help on the court this year. I wouldn't be upset if he decided to come to IU. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

How good is he? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
-- Starting off with some not-so-good news: 2015 G Allonzo Trier committed to Arizona. Sean Miller continues to dominate the recruiting trail. -- More bad news: 2015 G Donovan Mitchell trimmed his list to five. Although he was expected to visit Indiana, the Hoosiers did not make the cut. Mitchell quickly committed to Louisville. -- Feeling down? This might help. 2015 G Shake Milton also trimmed his list, but Indiana was included in this one. Reminder: He'll be visiting IU along with MoKan Elite teammate, 2015 F Juwan Morgan, in September. -- Keeping with this trimming list theme, 2015 G Terance Mann tweeted out his final six, which included Indiana. Mann told me Crean and Co. called last week, are "very interested" and want him to come up in the fall for an official visit. -- New name: 2015 F Ogugua Anunoby was on campus this week and picked up an Indiana offer. O.G. also picked up offers from Georgia and Vanderbilt. -- 2017 G Paul Scruggs visited IU this week. -- 2017 G Gary Trent Jr. picked up an offer from Providence. Oh, and Michigan State is interested too. -- Speaking of Michigan State, 2015 G Matt McQuaid visited the Spartans. -- 2015 G Kenny Williams added an offer from North Carolina. The guard also cut his list to seven, and Indiana is still in the mix. -- 2016 G Eron Gordon continues to remind schools that he isn't a lock to Indiana. -- 2015 C Thomas Bryant will use an official visit on Missouri, who just hired his old Huntington Prep coach. -- 2015 F Juwan Morgan announced his seven finalists. Expectedly, Indiana was one of them. -- 2017 F Malik Williams visited and received an offer from the Hoosiers. -- UCLA hosted a couple 2016 IU targets this week: 2016 F Thon Maker visited the Bruins, as did 2016 G Payton Pritchard. -- 2016 G Eli Wright unofficially visited Tennessee. -- Staying with the Vols: Tennessee offered 2015 G Bryant Crawford. -- Another 2016 IU target visited a Western U.S. school: 2016 F T.J. Leaf was on Arizona's campus. -- 2016 G Kyle Guy continues to pull in the offers. The latest one comes from California. -- We all know Tom Crean is never done recruiting. Now he's reportedly expressing interest in former Oregon signee Ray Kasongo who was denied admission into Oregon. According to John Martin, Kasongo is down to a final three of Kansas, Michigan State, and Indiana. Kasongo is visiting the Jayhawks this weekend, and will make a trip to East Lansing next Tuesday. -- This means nothing of importance to Indiana recruiting, but I stumbled across it and found at least mildly interesting. Remember Jakeem Yates? Probably not, but he was mentioned around the time Jeremiah April and Tim Priller committed. Anyway, he signed with Florida State this week. I tried to involve any news remotely relating to IUBB recruiting. However, I more than likely missed something. If I did or you notice a glaring mistake, please respond below. Come back next week for another roundup.
