noah is far from nba material if u ask me. just like zeller. he wasnt either. sad to see noah leave before developing his game more. IUfan34
Right now he's not "ready" for the NBA, but Noah's size and potential has NBA front offices drooling. He has a much brighter future than Cody, as he may be a star one day while Zeller will never be more than a solid role player. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
We can't keep bringing up how he resurrected the program does that give him a free pass? You really isn't much of an excuse anymore 25 games into the season. We should have seen signs of improvement by now right? I haven't seen any improvement from game 1 to game 25 just the same group of guys that turns the ball over 20 times a game with no purpose on offense.
He doesn't get a pass, but to suggest firing just one year after what he's done is absurd. And I don't think it's fair to say the team hasn't improved. It's easy to look good against a Chicago State, but appearance against the Big Ten is different. It's like when people confuse athleticism for "talent." People confuse the team looking amazing against Cupcake U and not so amazing against a top 25 team as "not improving." I'm not saying the team has made leaps and bounds, but you can't sit there and honestly believe they've gotten worse. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
I do think you make some fair points I just don't see him getting any better in creans system. Look at zeller.. I may be the only one to think this but I don't think he really got any better from year one to year two
I think another year of just playing and learning will help him get better. Whether that's here or the NBA is his decision though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Obviously but how is he not ready?
Noah isn't very good on offense right now. Poor at getting position, has one post move that isn't that good, and isn't a very good passer. He's still learning how to play defense too. What helps him in college is the fact that he's just bigger than most. He has all the makings of a potential future star, however, and won't need to necessarily "be ready." Edit: I don't think Vonleh will leave. Unlike Cody, Noah can actually raise his stock (There's no way Zeller should've gone at four. He's incredibly lucky MJ is bad at drafting.) and I believe he's the type of player that wants to be more "ready." He knows he has a lot to work on. A second year would do him a lot of good, on and off the court. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I hear a lot of talk about Noah going pro next year due to potentially being a high lottery pick. I wonder, has this season at IU, with the poor quality of basketball being played here, harmed his lottery pick status? Even if it drops him like a stone, does he come back for another season of this?
Noah is all potential right now, and this team won't hurt his stock. Teams are willing to wait for his development because he couldn't play (play well) in the NBA right now, but has the body and potential to be a star. I'm not saying you can't criticize Tom Crean. He deserves some and should be criticized. However, I don't think it's right to discuss firing someone just one year removed from the best two-year span in a while. Criticize, but don't talk firing - at least not right now. Watch Indiana win by about 20 or something today. I never know what to expect with this team. I think the key is: Which AJ Hammons shows up - the good or the bad? We better hope it's the bad. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Q: Best Player on Offense in B1G? A: Yogi Ferrell
All_Hoosiers replied to Rayl's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't think height will be that big of a problem for Yogi. He can shoot, pass, and defend, and his pace for development and improvement should easily put him in the Association. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Go back and listen to any of his post game press conferences. Then imagine being 18/19 years old trying to comprehend what he really wants to do on a specific play during a timeout. I really believe communication to the team is one of his biggest weaknesses. Crean knows basketball and what he wants to do, but I think the players have a difficult time understanding this. Just my opinion.
I'm 17, and had no issue comprehending his post game press conference after Penn State. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
I just want one thing answered does anybody remember last year when him and hanner had to sit out and crean would say on the radio show how much of a impact they could make if they were not suspended? I want to know can crean not tell by practice how well a kid id performing does he have to see them in game action to see there true level of play? I just wonder cause it seems that he has always bragged about guys in practice but never materializes in games. Sent from my SCH-I535 using BtownBanners mobile app
I'm sure all Hanner did was dunk and look really cool. Easy to overhype that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I think if Crean would take a step back and just talk in real terms and words instead of always being in this coach speak mode, he would do himself a favor. The never ending mindset matches the skillset in a parallel universe not only becomes blah, blah, blah but also shows lack of true communication and total bs. Could you imagine as a player trying to decode what he is saying or exactly what he wants? Geesh, no wonder he cannot draw up a play. No one can understand what he wants.
If a player can't decode what Crean just said, I'd be worried about the player. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I remember following Btown on twitter for a while. I created an Indiana sports blog last February (AllHoosiers, which I now really can't use anymore since Hutch launched the scout site) and built up a respectable following after a few months but decided to become a contributor for BtownBanners when I was asked. The growth of the site has been tremendous and I've loved every second of it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yeah, I'm not saying he's the guy I'd want most for IU. I would just personally be fine with trading him for Crean if that was a thing. I'd take many other coaches ahead of Cal.

Anonymity of social media, forums, and what not also fuel extreme views and talks. People have a harder time calling for someone's head or calling them a creepy uncle in person rather than simply typing it.

Forcing kids to stay in college longer will help the college and NBA game. Unless you're Lebron or Kobe, you more than likely need multiple years of college ball.
Sorry I got caught up yesterday. I really don't think that Cal is a great coach either, but he NBA level guys, three and four of which are starters. I will admit that Crean has gotten a few of those, but not at the level UK has. I know they are young, but the problem with that is the way we are recruiting means that we are going to continue to be young, because all these guys are going to bail after a year. Recruiting like this pays off, because the best don't want to spend 4 years in college, but maturity is what helps teams win. I think great coaches can overcome some of those pitfalls, I'm just not seeing that yet.
John Calipari is actually a really good coach, but it gets overlooked because he brings in such good players. You can tell most of his players weren't taught the game very well in high school. They were basically just left alone while they overpowered everyone. Cal is really good at teaching them the game, and you usually can see clear improvement throughout the season. Aside from that, he manages all these high profile kids' egos and is usually successful in doing so. He wins for a reason, and it's not just because he recruits (or pays, whichever you prefer) top notch talent. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Alex Bozich tweeted out a link to an interview Indiana AD Fred Glass put out today. Don't know how many heard it, so I'll post it here: http://media.1070thefan.com/Podcasts/2161/Glass4512227328.mp3. Glass is a staunch defender of Crean. He thinks some criticism goes too far and can be uninformed. Also believes Crean is an "elite coach" and encourages fans to "put away the pitchforks and torches." Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
I would. The man can get whoever he wants.
