Weird, it's almost like people on here pointed that out dating back to last season but it wasn't corrected. I'm not suggesting we need to become gunners but a slight adjustment could make a world of difference. It's probably Archie's fault they were doing that this season too.

Was that the year JBJ went down? I don't think it would have effected his numbers that much. Would it have effected them some? Probably. The bigger issue was the difference in attempts. Where have we heard this? Looking at the numbers is pretty close to what I thought. Zeisloft a bit better on offense and Kopp slightly better on defense. The offense they played in had a lot to do with that. Maybe Kopp has better numbers playing in Crean's offense but not sure he's that kind of player. Zeisloft had more mobility and think he might have been slightly better off a dribble or two. Crazy to look at the recruiting rankings and see the differences in the teams. You could argue that the 22/23 team had a little more talent on paper while the 15/16 team had some underrated players. The 15/16 team didn't just have one big that shot from deep but two!! Was that team a more modern offense than the team 7 years later?

Agreed, Mike Woodson isn't playing around. I'd be all for some under the radar transfers that put in work and provided leadership to our younger players helping them to develop.

That team didn't have two bigs parked in the lane or throw the ball into the post on every possession. I'm not sure having the 3pt line back a little would have effected Zeisloft's numbers that much, dude was launching when he was open. It'd be interesting to compare the assist numbers between the two squads. Yogi was a big difference maker but TJD and JHS were no slouches finding teammates. That 15/16 team had way more pros on it.

I don't know if others have said the same but I'm very much of the mindset of getting it done. We have "cheated" in the past and I'm sure we're doing some grey area stuff at the moment. I believe we have the 100% guaranteed that one of our staff is following a kid from Arkansas that isn't in the portal but that could be in the future. It's all about perspective. Do you really believe IU hasn't talked with kids through back channels who haven't entered the portal?

Who/what do you believe has an impact on the program winning and how would you rank them?

Zeisloft playing his role in 2014-16 would have absolutely would have worked in the offense last season. Would it have been better if he could have driven and finished at the rim? Yes, players that can do both at a high level typically don't stay around college ball that long. Zeisloft would have never been confused for a good defender but he would have fit in on most nights with IU's defense. I would agree they are pretty similar with the main difference between Zeisloft took and made more 3s than Kopp. They're numbers for rebounding, assisting, and shooting are probably similar and defense was about the same. I would say Zeisloft had a little more impact on winning than Kopp. That 2015/16 team had a lot more leadership than this team.

Completely agree with that and unfortunately that's just part of recruiting. Maybe this off season is the opportunity the staff has to really push players to develop and show what they can take those solid rated recruits to major contributors on a contending team. That would be a major step for this program and coaching staff.

The latest assessment that our fan base has been the constant over the past 25 years of sucking. There is another entity that has been a constant with far greater impact on how the team performs year in and year out.

It's just one game and they were tired. Woody took the program from just outside making the tourney for 30 years straight to making it to the first round. St. Mary's is a great program and we just caught a bad break by not being able to sleep between games.

That's great where we rank but how much did we lose compared to others? Are we being real with the style of basketball and filling the holes with quality players that can play that style? You know there is more to it than a ranking. People were concerned dating back to last summer because they could sense the direction of the program. They were told to chill because we hadn't even started recruiting the portal. If we play the same style with similarly skills and less ability I have a massive concern where this program is headed. Can we land a few gems that will take us to the next level? Possibly but I'd say the probability is decreasing weekly.

We perform a lot of critical analysis of our program but it feels like most miss the mark or try to place blame anywhere except where it should be. If we're taking the baby steps approach to building a solid foundation for our program, AGAIN, we have a chance to do that with a third straight showing in the NCAA tourney. I know it seems crazy but there are consequences for actions. Even historic blue bloods are not immune to consequences for how you view the program. This program still has a ton of potential with the right players (non dribbling basketball types) even with a "poor fan base."

I believe JHS biggest question mark heading into the season was his outside shooting. (I could be totally off on that) I don't think he was a surefire one and done but had the potential and intangibles to make it happen. I believe people inside the program had been talking about him being a one and done since last season. I get a different feel between JHS and Bates. I was concerned about Bates developing last summer because of major life events he was going through which is completely understandable. JHS had a fantastic season, conducted himself like a professional, and has plenty of room to get better. Those are the main reasons he'll be drafted in the first round after a year of college basketball.

But they were in a much better place than what Archie left for Woody. We only had like TJD, Race, and a few others.

I wish nothing but the best for former Hoosiers but Geronimo and/or Bates having really good season might not be a great look. Having JHS and TJD get drafted is nice to point towards but having players transfer out and improve is tough. I was pretty impressed with Hunter accepting his role at Xavier and playing decent down the stretch. Durham got a lot of buzz the season he left IU too.

We'll see how next season plays out but Woody has a chance to get us to three consecutive tourneys for the first time in 15 years. We have to take baby steps as a program and can't expect to take jumps like other programs. Just making the tourney next season would be a huge accomplishment for this program. We shouldn't worry about making it all the way to a Sweet 16 or anything like that. There are other coaches who are close to 100 still in the game. Woody has as long as he'd like to continue to undo what Archie, Crean, Sampson, and the other coaches did to this program. Can we really expect to do more when Archie was the coach here several years ago? It's not like Woody can go out into free agency and get the players he needs to win now.

Damn man, that sounds pretty rough but glad the new hip is working out. I didn't think I would miss running when I was forced to run most mornings but there is something about enjoying the scenery on a nice long run. It's almost as though your body isn't meant to pound pavement for hours at a time or jump out of a helicopter with a few hundred pounds of gear or to throw a bunch of weight on your back and hump for a few hours. Really happy the old career field got smart about their fitness programs and realized there are better ways to stay in top shop than destroying your body 24/7.

Didn't we fill a few of those open roster spots with bigs so that we can go with Woody's preferred more modern offense?

That wouldn't be in their wheelhouse. When have I ever been sassy?

Exactly, we just need to be patience and wait a bit longer. Woody is a winner and will get it done. What Davis, Sampson, Crean, and Archie did to this program will take a lot longer than a few years for Woody to turn it around. Pretty sure there hasn't been a new coach to come into a program over the last few years and do better than Woody. Just needs the time.

We only missed on one portaling player though right?We didn't want the others and we can't go off just missing on one transfer. Woody is going big (or something) and he's a closer. Add something about Cupps being a recruiter. There are plenty more players in the portal that can help us win next season.

Damn decision came soon and good news on the horizon. Ledlum won't be playing in the original candy stripes.
