I dunno he's made one move up, after 14years in D2. Drake to Indiana is a lot bigger than NE Missouri st to Drake.

My worry of McCollum. In his entire basketball career, playing and coaching, Drake is the biggest school/program he has been around in his lifetime. It's not like he played or was an assistant for a high major and got to see what it's like running a program of that magnitude. That's my major concern.

Louisville has also only played 2 top 50 Kenpom teams since jan 1st. Their conference schedule is abysmal.

I would guess Dolsons thoughts are more of let's hire the best person for the job I can. Coaching, culture, etc all fits that description. I don't necessarily believe it's make a list of candidates and go down until one says yes. Back channel interest, let the search firm do their thing, and interview. Maybe someone down the list impresses you more than above? He can't find the best fit without doing his due diligence. Just because he or the firm are inquiring about coaches or conducting interviews with guys we deem down on the list doesn't mean those we have above have said no.

That's the $100 question. I do believe if he is given the job there might be some more talk of what happened and he'd have to own it and discuss it. It can kind of go away at a place like Ole Miss but at Indiana it'll be brought up and it'll have to be addressed at some point to stay ahead of it. I'm sure that'll be a discussion to be had once they decide. They can't just ignore imo.

I read it as he found a p5 job fairly quickly after the Texas firing and that it was considered his second chance and him being hired by IU would give him the feeling of almost being untouchable. I disagree and think a second DV would bury him.

To you it may seem like another p5 job but ole miss is lower than Texas tech, to a coach like him it's like starting at the bottom all over again. IF something were to happen IU would be his last chance at an elite school. Once can be explained away, if something happens again it's more than that. The firm and IU doing their due diligence will be enough for me.

Thanks for the posts. This was precisely my scenario of a possibility during this whole thing for beard, not saying it's what's happened as we don't know but we have no right to go judging and assuming about the situation. Let the administration take a deep dive and figure out if it's worth a shot. Maybe the situation wasn't what it seems to some or maybe he's in a better place and a better man. To assume if he's hired that IU sold their soul to bring in a monster is crazy. People are funny and fickle. There's intelligent people of all walks of life, but not everyone has the life experiences to be understanding of people in different situations than they're experienced and judge accordingly.

Going from successful d2 years to a lower d1 and moving up is different than spending 14years at d1, 1 year at drake and then taking over Indiana.

Cignetti started late but atleast kept moving up the ladder. He wasn't at a d2 school for 14 years, 1 year at a low d1, then takeover notre dame. People trying to capture that hire in a bottle by thinking every successful coach at the lower level will automatically succeed at the high major level is fooling themselves.

The things people make assumptions on without any evidence is mind blowing.
