I don't hate Hummel - think he does a solid job. You can tell he actually does his homework on players and teams. My problem with most NBA announcers? They don't know crap about anyone but the 'stars' so for first and second round games especially I prefer college announcers - I've given up hoping for them not to throw NBA guys in sweet sixteen and beyond though imho they aren't as good at college games

Have ESPN+ and read it - not much too it - says 2 favorites for IU are McCullom and Brownell. Talk a little about teams searching mostly said other coaches are 'cost prohibitive' if even interested - listed all the big names buys outs - all are over 10 mil.

Maybe this is all a smoke screen to hire Will Wade? SD goes after (or leaks) possible coaches that he knows are not interested - thoroughly going through the process - he knows Wade is still under a 'show cause' but has a great resume that he has to sell to the BOT/Donors - this way he can go in front of the board and say 'unfortunately this is the best we could get'.... Joking of course (unless it happens this way then I'm claiming it all along)...

I'd be cool with McCollum and I'd completely understand anyone who would feel underwhelmed but I keep going back to UK and UofL for 2 reasons - 1 ) Their searches - both (from what was reported) went after the big fish hard, probably very similar to our lists and with equivalent offers to ours - no bites as far as I heard. Unfortunately, people are comfy where they are it seems 2 ) Those same resources level the playing field - both coaches jumped into those programs hitting the ground running - a lot of the problems a big move would cause can be mitigated with todays staff, transfer portal, and NIL. Find a coach that can coach and fill in their weaknesses with key staff. Structuring staff more like the NBA helps coaches just focus on what they do - coach (plus some recruiting but that's not like it use to be before you could hire Scouts/GM i.e. Zeller if that's what he ends up doing (love to see Hulls in that position too - think he'd be drawn to players McCollum would love). Still would pee myself if Brad is it - but I knew the odds (very low imho - I absolutely think SD put in the work but it was gonna be a battle) and I love a meh floor but a super high ceiling (more then Collins or Brownell). Just my opinion but as I said - Huss, Schertz, McCollum, or Devries are those ceiling imho.

In all fairness this was at the time that people were allegedly asked to stop discussing the coaching search by the AD. (I heard this from a source as well but they themselves didn't get an email)

It was especially nice during a coaching search - I've had a lot of fun watching teams I never see to 'scout' coaches (cause I'm certain IU will want my opinion : ) )

Having worked at and tons of friends that work for IU (Bloomington for 30+ - stayed here after school) - this kinda of staffing is absolutely assumed/set before the seasons start - as I said you are prepped for staffing for tourney (all scenarios - Men hosting for NIT and/or Women hosting NCAA are the 2 most personal heavy - neither of those are happening from the look of it). What does it mean? No clue but it's not a normal request this late hour unless it really is an unexpected event. (plus you don't send big money donors thru an automated system - never - they get the white glove treatment at a certain money point - I was lucky enough to get to know Bill Armstrong pretty well and he took me to some RMK events - he made sure every money person was identified and had a personal experience. Still know people in Alumni Assoc and they have a list of contacts they take care of personally.)

You would think - unless there is an previously unscheduled event (i.e. announcement) then you wouldn't ask people to be available in a very common vacation period - kinda stuff that would annoy people if nothing happens.

Shoulda added Shertz to my list - I could get behind any of these 4 - Huss, McCollum, Devries, Shertz. I'm honestly excited about this generation of up and comers - much more then the Mack, Cronin, Miller trio we had 2 searches ago - it very well could be my crimson colored glasses or recency bias but they just seem more prepared for the big stage.

Agreed - Huss, McCollum, Devries all make ton more sense then Brownell - plus SD is a bit of gambler and salesman/fund raiser imho - much easier to sell young fresh up and comer then good 'ole reliable to donors.

I only know it from IT AD perspective but main staffing was done at beginning of season - 2 things you assume so as not to get caught with your pants down. 1) you are going to NCAAs 2) Women are hosting games in tournament. Much easier to give people days off if those don't happen, then find people to work over spring break at last minute

Not the norm - for that type of staffing you would have been notified months before - not a week and half.

Chris have you heard of message being sent around to IU alumni associate and mid level at AD to be around for spring break if possible? Heard it from a buddy but he's in UITS so not the comfy with it source wise.

Exactly - even if SD feels it's +90% with whatever candidate - he'll have some strong candidates in waiting so the Woodson madness doesn't happen again (Board swooping in with their own hire). Until everything is signed and you have the press conference - you keep working the job.
