See this is exactly what I'm talking about. This exact thing won a lot of games in the 70's and 80's. It's meaningless now. You can point to Painter all you want, but he is a very modern coach who isn't who you think he is. He's one of the best offensive minds in the game. To think your just gonna be among the best by simply working hard, going to class, and bounce passing it better than everyone else is delusional and, again, why IU has sucked for 25 years.

Matt Painter is a very forward thinking coach, the fact he's an alum is just a happy coincidence. Also, he coached 12 years before advancing past the sweet 16 and completely bottomed out for 2 years. we would have fired him long before he became as successful as he has been.

We would have torn Painter to shreds if he were at IU had didn't do anything with Hummel and then proceeded to miss a couple tournaments in a row. We essentially were at the same impasse with Crean, and we booted him out before he got the chance to change.

Look, we could either cling to the past and try desperately to bring back something that hasn't existed for a generation, or look to the future and put together the best possible program in the modern era. This thought process is why IU has sucked the better part of 25 years.

We need to get back to more sensible, realistic candidates, like Brad Stevens.

Look, I'm sure to some people here 1987 wasn't that long ago. But for people like me, who have never seen much success for such a historic program, a guy like Wade would win at a rate not seen in a long time. Fact is that we are no different than where Houston was before they took a chance on a 2 time cheater like Sampson.

No, I don't really care. But if we were looking at coaching candidates, and there were a big time winner who also happened to throw stuff in fits of rage, people here would be up in arms and prepared to burn their IU gear if IU even gave him an interview. Just pointing out the obvious hypocrisy.

While everyone is here clutching their pearls about Will Wade, I'll remind everyone that we venerate a guy who did pic related. And throwing a chair isn't even the worst thing Knight did while he was here.

Wade would be great, but yeah it's just not gonna happen. Way too many IU fans want to pretend to have a beer with the IU coach than actually have a winning program. What's really bizarre is that what IU fans describe what they seem to want, Tom Crean essentially was, and he was ran out of town.

Sweet 16 is the third round, Woodson made it to the second round. Ergo, Woodson almost made the Sweet 16. It's not that hard to figure out. That wasn't even the point of my comment anyway. Good Lord people.....

Still blows me away that we went from firing a guy who got 3 sweet 16's and 2 big ten titles in 5 years to defending a coach who's biggest achievement is almost getting to the sweet 16 once in 4 years.

For the sake of Woodson's legacy, I hope he isn't here when Dusty rolls into town. When he beats them by 20, it'll get very ugly imo.

To see how our search is gonna go, just look at Kentucky's search last year. We're gonna go after Drew, Stevens, Pearl. When they all inevitably say no we're gonna settle for Ben Mccollum. I still think that scenario works out for us, but I just see something like that happening.
