Gut feeling ... you will have to watch him play for NC State next year. -
In the NCAAT he only shot three 3's per game but played 38 minutes against Drake 2 turnovers and then two days later played 40 minutes against Iowa Stat and had 1 turnover. Only attempted three 3's that game hitting 1 in both games. Maybe their strategy changed as a team and he shot less 3's.

Has IU upgraded their guards, with the Rice commitment I think they have. So they don't play defense in the Pac12??? Maybe not but fans will find out that conference isn't dog meat after USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington join. Not so much Washington and USC right now in basketball but definitely UCLA and Oregon. Is Rice's 35 points against Stanford less than Malik's 25 against Penn St or 34 against Kennesaw State? Rice's last two games were in the NCAAT vs Drake and Iowa State. He shot 33.3% from 3 and played all 40 minutes vs Iowa State, 38 minutes against Drake. Can you imagine a guard playing all those minutes and committing only 1 turnover in the Iowa State game and 2 in the Drake game? What a change that will be, taking care of the ball while playing major minutes. Pac12 isn't dog meat and he is Freshman Player of the Year and 1st Team Pac12. I love this kid.

I've seen nothing about his visit. I didn't see anything about Rice yesterday until his "committed" announcement. Maybe that is why there are crickets around the Payne visit. -

Mark Few turned down Oregon, UCLA as example. He grew up in the PNW has/had connections and relationships in recruiting ... but ... I read once a big factor is where he lives. It is like a high class hunting lodge with a trout stream running through his property. I did hear an interview a few years ago before IU played them in Indy ?? ... he thought IU fans were overboard crazy. That was just some added info and nothing to do with leaving Gonzaga. If you have ever lived in the PNW, even as bad as the Spokane area, it's hard to leave ... especially of your property is a high class hunting lodge with a trout stream in back. -

Another great analysis, always good. The BOLD is Mike Woodson's type of team and IMO that is what is going to happen. I like what UCONN, FAU or ISU run on offense. All agree that 3's are worth more than 2s. Yet I cannot wrap my brain around MR as a 5. When I try, I see him double teamed and unable to pass the ball out or won't pass the ball out, thus forcing shots. I don't see MR as a rim protector and if IU doesn't improve on defense they will need one. It was said by an NBA scout and relayed in a broadcast, the reason MR doesn't rebound well, he has small hands. So I KNOW IU needs shooters and I would love some as much as everyone else ... but it looks like Mike Woodson is going to sign Mike Woodson type players to run Mike Woodson's offense. I don't see Conwell brought up much in social media but saw the post above where coaches are following him but not the players on Instagram. Sadly that process with Instagram seems to be pretty accurate on who is going where. Who knows maybe the staff and Mike thinks they can improve the shooting of the players coming in like they have thought in the past. Maybe the staff does not agree with the forum's non-true fans, and they don't have a shooters problem "we only have to hit shots" as Woodson reminded me plenty of times last season. Prepare for next year. Mike Woodson's offense (because nothing is wrong in his mind) and those of soon to be Michigan, UCONN and ISU as only wishful thinking. -
Is anyone watching what Dusty May is doing at Michigan as far as portal visits and players? I know that might be a sore subject since it is Michigan.

UCONN lost three to the NBA draft, some graduated. I haven't looked which I should I guess but I am lazy this morning ... I am thinking that UCONN had to fill 5-6 scholly's on their roster this year. -
So the Matthew Graves family wakes up this morning in Terre Haute Indiana. They have a pay raise, a dream job, TWO players on the roster not counting the walk-on staying, a couple of student managers, ONE assistant coach on staff .... You have to wonder what would be the response if IU was in this predicament? He said he has been on the phone for months trying to get a high mid major or a P5 school to come to Hulman Center to play them ... crickets. Has he called IU ? Of course like all the other schools, it's a no win situation and I only have to remember the years IU was beat by ISU in AH with Davis or at IPFW with Archie. He says he will keep the same offensive system, "layups or 3's" (not his words) and will recruit players to fit that system. Dream job or not Matthew Graves is in a rough situation. He follows the best season ISU has had in 40 some years. A new President shows up July 1. A new AD is planned but has NOT been hired yet. Team is gone. Managers are gone, Staff are gone. Looks like IU has a lot going for it this off-season. I don't want to hear ONE EXCUSE next year in any IU coach or IU players interviews. NONE !!!

Holy S***!!!!! For me that puts my needle over the speed limit ... yes they have to fit ... but I am more concerned what's the destination and who is driving this out of control car. So to speak. But ... I love to speed. -

I agree. I was in fact surprised when that information was released about total 5 for each B1G team. All that told me was "where's the coaching then?" I like Cignetti's thought on star rankings. Ignore them. Obviously they mean little when every year you see players non-rated playing for a small name school only being a NCAAT star for a big name team. If you can play ... you can play and that's all that matters in any college or pro sport. -

I think what he is trying to say is "we have heard that best in the B1G before as recently as this year with 47 stars, more than anyone and where was IU in the NCAAT ?" -

I am right there with you. I have stated more than a few times I don't like Woodson but he is here for another year and probably more. No matter how loud fans and couch coaches scream at him, he is going to play a 2 big system, that's all he knows and he knows more basketball than anyone does, just ask him. I agree with you "get the players that can optimize that". Just think what a difference it would make with improved 3 point shooting, thus more of those taken. Improvement in free throws, they are FREE, you're wide open!!!! Perimeter defense improvement -- I don't want to see a Penn Sate, Nebraska performance again behind the 3 point line. Guard your man!! So like a few, maybe more, I still want to see IU win although that keeps Woodson on the bench longer. I'm old and tired of losing. Will it ever get back to RMK success, even with his down years? I doubt that will ever happen. Nothing says I cannot dream of annual March Madness without IU in a play-in game. Nothing says I cannot dream to see IU the second Saturday and beyond. Nothing says I cannot dream about fighting through January, February and the first week of March if needed to win a B1G Championship. ALL of those things are possible!! IF Woodson can some how do that then fine ... I can chose not to listen to his post game, pregame interview bs. I can by-pass Senior Night speeches again and I can totally ignore him ... IU winning will be NOT QUITE enough because I like seeing well coached teams. So let's see what Year 4 brings for Mike Woodson. Let's see what this weekend brings and then Monday and Tuesday with his portal guest. Let see what happens when the IU 24-25 team meets for the first time for workouts. We will get a glimpse of what Mike Woodson has to work with and if he makes any changes in the Atlantis games against some decent P5 schools. I don't like Mike Woodson (his attitude turned me) but I love when IU wins consistently. -
Over a nice hot cup of coffee with the sun rising behind the trees shining into my computer room window, reading threads from my last stop on Friday night .... my ignore list increased by one this morning. Guess who?
-
"throttle back" .... I never said you meant win it nor did I think you were saying that. IN FACT you quoted my answer to Hornsby's post, not yours.
-
I can live with that.
-
Way way way too early. Even the good RMK teams were ugly at times in the Hawaii Classics. IMO too many new players to start off with a bang in the Bahamas against good teams.
-
It's his wife that is the factor in the decision.

Good question. I can say that I will always hate Michigan and Kentucky but I cannot say I will ever dislike Dusty May or Mark Pope.

I've got a problem of sorts. I like Dusty May and Mark Pope, coaches of two schools I hate with a passion.

Maybe Woodson is planning on going to a 'true' NBA rotation of 10 players. I don't watch the NBA, do they rotate 10 ?? -

At the time I didn't know who you meant. @Hovadipo knew and then I knew. Big Joey is not going to get hired at ISU.
