    Sorry, “Doctor”.

I use the term because it’s accurate. I understand what some here want and I understand the “I’m hearing” gossip, though. We all want an elite program again, so the emotion is understandable.

I’ve read some of what you’ve posted, but I’m also aware of what’s going on within the AD.

I agree, it would provide a visceral solution for some, but it wouldn’t impact the long term health of the program, which should be the objective.

Looking for a “competent” replacement won’t be inhibited by a six or seven week gap in time.

Do you believe those discussions with “some people” only began today?

What benefit to the program would exist by firing him now? How would that improve the program in the near term, which is the only real impact it would have. Would we be more competitive? Win more games? Serve the interests of the players?

If there isn’t a remarkable change in the direction of the program in the next six weeks, we have to make a change, in my opinion. Of course, it’s always been fair to wonder why we chose to hire him in the first place, as well as what our options were at that time.

Sounds interesting and I hope they’re a more reliable source of information for you.

How well do you know Woodson?

That’s the common thread, and it has been for a long number of years. They’re the “New Coke” in all of this.

They aren’t “my guys” any more than they’re “your guys”. But I do understand the visceral reactions here. We haven’t had an elite program for several decades, and that’s due to a bunch of people in positions of leadership who were each convinced they knew what they were doing. Way too many cooks who can’t and couldn’t boil water.

It’s only a little less likely than this scenario.

I understand the emotions here, but they’re not going to sway how this gets done, and that’s true even if some people are having “discussions” last night and this morning.

Recent history leaves clues as to how this will proceed, including the why, how and when, as well as the who.

Oh, I think it will be nearly impossible for Woodson to remain as coach once the season ends, but those conversations aren’t as recent as last evening or this morning. Just wanted to be sure you understood the time frame, which is extremely unlikely to change. Glad to clarify and update this for you.

I think you and others are going to continue to be disappointed if you believe we’re moving on Woodson before the season concludes. Not sure what conversations you’ve heard about since we lost to Illinois, but these aren’t people and this isn’t a culture prone to knee jerk decisions and actions. I know there are some restless people who are talking about “where do we go from here” (this is a direct quote), but it’s not a January action item.

I don’t believe he’s ever been on anyone’s list, including Dolson’s. He’s a nice guy and I know he’s reached out to IU previously, but several things would need to change if he were to be considered if / when we have an opening at the end of the season.

Not sure that’s an apt analogy, but nobody likes the results so far. As to Woodson‘s work ethic, no one worked harder than Tom Crean, but that didn’t create enough success to keep him around.

I agree. We were both really good and a little bit lucky in getting Cignetti, and the results are beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. I think some of the stereotypes of coaching hiring were blown to bits when Cig and IU experienced the success we did this year.

The notion that they don’t know basketball or don’t care deeply about IU is really beyond reason. I understand everyone’s disappointment with the results, but these aren’t people who are devious or in it for ulterior purposes.

Agreed but, as I’m sure you know, that change doesn’t come easily at IU, and it’s been complicated by the overt influence of NIL. We’ve done an excellent job of playing that part of the game, but it’s not something that many within in the University find much satisfaction in.

Agree. I’ve been around it for a number of years and it’s as frustrating for you and me as it is for the newer fans who are arguing (rightly) that it shouldn’t be that way, at least any more. I do believe Scott is gaining influence and independence and will flourish in the years to come.

His influence hasn’t been entirely bad, and it included moving a coach out over the objections of the AD. If you liked that guy, which perhaps you did, you didn’t care for Buckner’s influence then, either. Many felt otherwise.
