I get that people want to win and that it’s not happening. They’re the same people that loved Crean and that thought Archie Miller was the right choice, as well. Hard to put much stock in what they say.

None of that would transpire the way you’ve sketched it out. And the only “hostile” fans aren’t really worth appeasing if building the program back up is the goal.

No, he doesn’t work as hard as Cig, but that’s only one issue. You know who did? Tom Crean. You want him back?

Exactly, there’s no benefit to the program. Dolson will do his job, just like he did with football.

Absolutely none of this do you know to be a fact. I get the rumor and innuendo and your reliance on it as fact, but it’s still not anything you know to be true.

No, I’m just the person who’s followed the program for decades and been around the University for just as long. Always enjoy the perspective of newer fans.

Be frustrated all you want - I guess our fan base isn’t immune to this kind of stuff. Frustrating for those of us who’ve been around the program for a long time and have seen how successful it was. Times, and fan bases, change.

That’s part of my point here - You and a few others are quick to believe third hand rumors and innuendo without any actual knowledge whatsoever. I guess I understand that’s what losing does to some people, but it’s kind of mindless, don’t you think? And all because we had a really lousy weekend in the Bahamas?

Like what? Lazy? For recruiting, absolutely. Insecure and petty? Not sure about that. Narcissist? Based on what?

At this point, what is it that you want done? I understand your disappointment with the program, though I’m not at all sure you’ve floated any solutions. How long have you been an IU fan?

That’s fine. I hadn’t posted in some time and wanted to give people some insight into where things stand. I realize not everyone likes to hear that. As I said earlier, the louder the noise the less informed people generally are about any subject, including this one. Thanks for setting me straight.

Do you honestly believe Woodson wants his legacy to be that he helped run our storied basketball program into the ground and that, as long as he’s well paid, he’s fine? Do you really not understand that he loves IU and all it did for him? Do you really not understand the same about Buckner, who’s been associated with the University for over 50 years? I get that people are disappointed that the program hasn’t elevated to a national level, but some of the stuff mentioned here is really outlandish and nonsensical. Woodson will either get things going or he’ll get pushed out. Why is that so difficult for people to comprehend?

Not close to accurate. I’m just trying to let people here know how things are viewed from the IU perspective. You can criticize to your heart’s content, but there’s a way this stuff will get done. The louder the criticism, the less informed people seem to be.

The “basketball world” shouldn’t be our concern, and the vast majority of the fans aren’t as panicked as a few people on the internet who take tiny amounts of rumor and innuendo and convert it into fact at the speed of light. Woodson has his hands full and he’s very likely approached it wrong from Day One. There’s been some blow back related to recruiting that’s reminiscent of the Mike Davis years, and it’s really troubling. I wouldn’t wager dollar one that he’s our coach come April. But our troubles started years ago, beginning from the time when we mishandled Knight’s successor all the way through until now. We’ve been plagued by leadership issues that have made having a successful program less and less likely, and we’ve consistently failed to recognize the consequences of putting people in charge who were horrible fits. Finally, they have a guy in Dolson who is the right AD, but he had a ton of cleaning up to do (and he’s still doing it). Several of his predecessors were really poor at hiring and “stewarding” almost anything they touched, and many of the people they brought in were simply not qualified. I have no doubt SD will do the right thing here, but he’s not firing Woodson in early December based on a lousy trip to the Bahamas.

Send it to the players? In the era of NIL, do you think that message only gets to them if you fire the coach they came to play for? Do you think it will make them play better? Be more dedicated? Have more loyalty? Or will this just be something that makes some fans feel better because we’re doing “something”? Remember, we had a football coach win three conference games in three years and we still waited until the season ended to fire him.

For people who want to know what has the attention of people like Dolson, you’re getting warmer. There are a couple of other things out there that follow along this same topic that have been brought to Scott’s attention. With all of that, the HH guys are often concerning to people in the AD, and the decision to keep them away from the basketball program was very much supported by the AD. They may try to suggest otherwise, but they would be wrong.

I’ve never once heard anyone express a concern about that.

He has a “pair”, he just doesn’t use them without a good reason. What did the HH guys have to say? It’s hard to not roll your eyes when thinking of them. They’re big fans but they constantly make people in the AD nervous.

We aren’t doomed by the approach, we’re only doomed if we fail to act wisely, something we’ve unfortunately demonstrated a propensity to do in many of our football and basketball hires. Dolson is the first “real” AD we’ve had in a long, long time, so I think he’ll look after this properly. That said, he’s wise enough to do it the “right” way, which isn’t always the fastest.
