Totally different landscape now then in the times before the late 1999's. It used to be very difficult to get into a bowl game. There were not many bowl games and you actually had to be good. Now you win 6 games and you are bowl eligible.

Why would IU want to even entertain Fitz? He was a mediocre coach at best playing in the awful west of the B1G and he has baggage. All of the allegations are pretty bad, even if they aren't true, there is enough "smoke" for other coaches to use it against him during recruiting. I'm pretty sure Tom Allen could have had the same success in the West. 9 winning seasons, and twice first in the West, one of which was a COVID year.
