I just gave you 3. That doesn’t include guys at the FCS level.

I could think of $4-5 million reasons to pick up the phone, especially Chryst

I wouldn’t hire a soul who didn’t walk into Dolson’s office without a similar pitch. This isn’t unique.

X’s and O’s better than most? Define most? People who post on here? Sure. Other more qualified coaches who have actually called plays and scheme against actual offenses/defenses week to week? Absolutely not.

Why? I’d take Willie Fritz, Paul Chryst, or Curt Cignetti in a heart beat if the alternative is ARE. I get the rationale in thinking ARE is going to be our 20 year man like Kirk Ferentz, but reality as well history suggests we’ll be counting down the days of his buyout before he sees his first recruiting class through. Give me 5-6 years of a proven winner on top of a proven program builder that leaves the program in a better place than he found it for the next guy all freaking day.

There aren’t many 60 year old coordinators and the ones that are out there won’t be getting a call from IU. If IU is hiring a 60 year old, it’s a 60 year old with a proven track record of building a program(s) and winning. If that’s the case, sign me up.

Building a basketball program is far less tedious than building a football program, especially when you have ZERO built in advantages.

Hiring ARE is akin to letting the baggage claim attendant fly the plane.

BS. -He’s never been a head coach -He’s never called plays -He’s never recruited -He’s never been tasked with having to evaluate and hire a staff Being a position coach is a resume starter. Being tasked with trying to build a program that’s the worst in all of college football with ZERO experience or background in doing so is an unmitigated disaster. It’s negligent and the BoT should forcibly remove Dolson if he’s allowed to do as such.
  10. they had probable cause to arrest him for trespassing and he didn’t exit the vehicle. The resisting dismissal is a non-starter, he won’t see a dime.

I don’t prefer Carey. I said if Dolson is hell bent on hiring an Indiana guy just for the sake of doing it, promote Carey in that instance. At least he’s been a head coach before. ARE name is only mentioned due to the fact he played at Indiana, not because he meets some kind of qualifications.

There's a hundred more qualified candidates who we can all make the same claim No disagreement, not sure that translates to B10 head coach though Again, can say that about a hundred more qualified coaches I think I'm repeating myself There's more qualified coaches out there with Indiana ties who likely fall in the same category. If we're dead set on hiring a former player just because, just promote Rod Carey and get it over with. He's 10x more qualified than ARE right now.

As opposed to ARE who has never talked to a recruit in his life?

There is no way ARE is "undoubtedly one of our best options". He's never been a head coach before. He's never coached collegiately. He's never recruited before. He's never been tasked with hiring a support staff. Other than being a really good player 20 years ago, what credentials does ARE have that suggests he's qualified to be a B10 head coach? If ARE went to Illinois instead of Indiana are we even talking about him?
  15. MM's insurance company after he pays his deductible.

My guy is Willie Fritz. Most people with scoff at that idea primarily due to his age, but Willie Fritz is exactly the blood this program needs. Every job he's touched...he's improved. And not only improved but left said program in much better shape than he found it. IU needs a 5-6 year guy to come in an immediately change the culture and leave a sturdy foundation. Willie Fritz has made a career out of this spanning multiple levels of collegiate football.

Minus the public image and the track record of building a program, I guess. ARE name doesn't resonate with recruits like Prime. In fact, I would be shocked if most 16-17 year old kids knew who ARE even is.

Very true. Just surprised to see so many posts advocating ARE. My favorite IUFB player ever, but I'm not sure he'd be in my top 100 on any official coach wish list.

Total disaster. Indiana football is not the climate for on the job training. Hiring to him as an AHC/Passing game coordinator or whatever with a pay raise is one thing, hiring him to take on a massive rebuild would be an unmitigated disaster. Brian Hartline is the only name without previous head coaching experience I could be talked into given his ability to recruit, but if you haven't been a head coach before you shouldn't get a phone call. If IU screws this up...again....could be the end of it.
  20. Exactly. This falls on so many deaf ears. The need to defend poor decision after poor decision that ultimately resulted in a needless arrest is ASTOUNDING. Go HOME!!!
