He hasn't done anything. He didn't hire any of the coaches that you're trying to give him credit for. He hired Mike Woodson as a band-aid that still has much to prove at the age of 65 now that the AA he inherited is gone. An upgrade from Archie Miller, sure, that isn't hard to do. I realize IU football has been bad for a century....IU has had some terrible AD's in the same time frame. Not a coincidence. If you haven't noticed, football is the driving force that moves the needle in college athletics. IU and their AD's, Dolson included, can't seem to figure that out. Hiring Mike Hart or Justin Frye furthers that.

Frye was OC in name only at UCLA. Chip Kelly to this day still calls his own plays, as does Ryan Day at Ohio State. Mike Hart was the associate head coach at Indiana before being hired away to Michigan FWIW.

That's fine. That's not what I'm talking about either. He didn't hire Moren, didn't hire Yeagley, didn't hire Mercer, etc I'm specifically looking at handing out one of the worst college football contracts in the history of the sport and the search efforts that landed a 63 year old NBA journeyman with no prior college experience who wasn't in any kind of demand. This on top of a new football search that on the surface seems extremely underwhelming. Like I said the other night, when your greatest achievement as AD is firing a coach (that you didn't hire) who didn't play in a single tournament game in 4 years at Indiana University, your efforts deserve criticism.

The only silver-lining in hiring Mike Hart may be just for that reason; an audition for the Michigan job. Extra motivation to succeed to keep the hope alive that he one day he is considered. Sorry just trying to rationalize why Mike Hart makes any sort of sense at the moment.

Definitely a scapegoat. OSU had defensive issues in 21 and 22, finally corrected it only to have pedestrian QB play this year for the first time in ages. Neither of those responsibilities fall on Frye. Still not a reason to feel confident about hiring him, but he is the last of their concerns.

Could also see him bringing back Larry Black who played DT under Lynch/Wilson. Was Toledo's DL coach under Candle before taking the same position at Vanderbilt last year.

    His tenure as Athletic Director

Because I have zero confidence in him doing something competent, especially in regards to hire a football coach.

If Dolson isn't letting the new coach hire his own staff it's likely why the applicant pool is so terrible (not saying this is the case).

Just feels like Dolson hasn't been on top of things. I realize that Allen was let go Sunday, but many are claiming the decision was made weeks ago. It just seems odd that it's taken 4 days just to VET candidates. Candle is the only guy on that list that they may have limited access too given Toledo's status in the MAC championship. This whole process just reeks of amateur hour.

Frye technically isn't the OC at Ohio State, Brian Hartline is although he doesn't call the plays either. No clue what Frye makes at Ohio State but I would have figured the chance at play-calling duties with a competitive salary would help jump start his head coaching potency but apparently IU is ready to roll the dice. If it is indeed Candle we probably won't hear anything official until after Toledo plays at noon Saturday. If Chryst it could be in the next 48 hours and he better have assistants already lined up and ready to go for Monday. God knows he needs it. If it's Hart or Frye I'll pretend I care and try and talk myself into it, but realize that my Saturdays are going to be pretty free for the foreseeable future.

Yeah. Gruden technically “resigned” but part of his resignation included a settlement from the Raiders as Gruden was still owed over $40 million.

I’m talking after the fact. He ended any and all chances of ever coaching in the NFL when he tried (unsuccessfully) suing both Goodell and NFL.

Right, a consultant. He’s not an official member of the Saints. I reiterate, he’ll never coach in the NFL as long as Goodell is in charge.

Where? He’ll never coach in the NFL as long as Goodell is commissioner.

Think we'll see him in Iowa City sooner than later.

Lol those changes are out of his control. Fitz has zero say in NU's admission requirements or their selectiveness in undergrad transfers. Put Fitz in a program without rigorous admission and academic requirements and he can be as good as anybody. He's going to coach again somewhere and be very successful.

Why would you be skeptical of Pat Fitzgerald? From a pure X's and O's standpoint, he's the best person IU has talked too by a mile. You can count on one hand the number of guys who could have done what Fitz has done at Northwestern. And it's only getting harder for the prestigious academic schools in the NIL and portal climate.

And arguably the best one at that. It's Jason Candle or nothing at this point.

But how many guys have said no to where we're at the point Mike Hart is being interviewed. At least that's the way I'm looking at it, for Dolson's sake I hope. If Mike Hart is hired, Dolson should have to personally pay Mike Hart's buyout out of his own pocket on his way out.

If he went 21-15 over a 3 year run I would be ecstatic. But I know enough about Manny Diaz to know that there is a reason he's a defensive coordinator and not a head coach and why Miami didn't mess around and let him overstay his welcome.

Past is a pretty good indication of the future though, no?

He was fired from Miami for being a middle of the pack ACC team in some serious down years and not being able to recruit his home city despite the historical significance his family name has in Dade County.

You don't go from offering $70 million to Brad Stevens to turning around and hiring an 60+ yr old NBA assistant with zero collegiate experience 48 hours later. That isn't to say Mike Woodson can't or won't be successful here, but if Brad Stevens and Mike Woodson were the only two candidates on Dolson's wish list it even further illustrates his ineptness.

He's innovative and the offense would at least be entertaining most times out, but he'd have to be guaranteed a fortune to spend his defensive staff support though or this will be Wilson lite.
