Come March, Beard will have taken his 4th different team to the NCAAT. When he’s hired away after this season, next year will be the 5th program. Only 3 other coaches in the history of college basketball have accomplished that feat. Beard will have done it in 10 years. Maybe more coaches should start drinking beer.

Imagine hiring a competent coach and no longer worrying about looking for a new coach every 3-4 seasons. Man the 80’s and 90’s were such better times, in more ways than one.

Those guys like to recruit, Stevens didn’t. All three had a cup of coffee in the NBA and had no other choice but to return to college. Stevens in several interviews has commented on such.

I’m sure he is, but nobody actually “retires” just to take the same position at a different organization. Just like Belichick and the Patriots didn’t “mutually agree” to part ways. But Kraft owes one and then some to Bill.

If Brad wanted to coach IU he would have accepted the job and said thank you to the Celtics after the fact. You don’t have to believe everything you read on the internet Jersey.

Your wonder boy insider just said that Stevens took IU’s contract to Ainge and that Ainge persuaded him to stay because he was retiring and was going to name him his successor. Ainge had no idea he was being outed in mid-March when these supposed contract negotiations went down and thus the plans to name him successor literally never would have taken place.

I’m not sure if that was supposed to be funny or not. Rabjohns? Really?

It’s the same response I gave an hour ago. Stevens wasn’t elevated until June 2nd and had zero bearing on some smoke screen IU offer 3 months earlier. Ainge was outed after the Celtics choked in the first round of the playoffs well after the fact.

I don’t care who or what you consider to be an insider. Do I need to sit here and rehash all the “inside” scoop that has been laid out on here by said poster that has proven to be flat wrong? I don’t need to embarrass anybody. If you want to believe that Brad Stevens was coming back to coach IU because Chris on BTown Banners says so, knock yourself out. That completely flips your narrative that Stevens was tipped off by Ainge and named his successor. Lame duck management doesn’t get to name their replacement. You’re all over the place.

So IU had a donor willing to commit $35million to the next coach and they ended up with Mike Woodson? Sometime I really don’t even think you believe the things you say.

@Chris007 and for the record, Danny Ainge didn’t “retire” as some plan to name Brad Stevens his successor. He was forced out by the organization and allowed to “retire” to save face. He literally took the same position with the Jazz three months later.

He wasn’t all of the sudden elevated to that job, that’s why you don’t understand. He was elevated 3 months after the fact in June. At the very best case scenario for the Stevens kool-aid drinkers on this forum, Stevens got a dollar figure from IU for pure contract leverage down the road. He never considered taking the IU job and IU was never seriously going to pay him $70mil.

Took over 12-18 UALR; went 30-5 year 1 and won NCAAT game Took over dumpster fire TT; E8 year 2 and OT away from winning the national title in year 3 Hired at Texas; ranked #2 in the country at the time of firing for a team that was a game away from the F4 Took over 12-21 Ole Miss; 15-2 and nationally ranked w 9 new players in year 1 And you want to talk about double digit losses? You’re delusional.

Because that was the plan all along. You don’t go from willingly spending $10mil/yr on a coach to not considering anyone else who doesn’t even possess a year of college coaching experience. A lot easier for (most) the fan base to finally move on from BS once they actually hear no. BS was never coming here.

I don’t think Stevens considered the offer for a second and it was a huge smoke screen for what Dolson knew was going to be massive backlash for hiring Woodson. If you’re willing to pay $10mil/yr to Brad Stevens, you’re certainly going to entertain a much more qualified applicant pool than one that identifies Mike Woodson was plan B. It’s not hard to offer somebody $10mil/yr when you already know their answer.
