Veteran coach, looking for an elusive title in a tough environment in the NIL era…….Mark Few
-
It depends on what you mean by build up. I don’t care who the coach is, missing the tournament next year would be a fail. I’m not saying we should be top 10 next year (it’d be nice) but in todays age with the portal and NIL, the time for years of building up a program are gone for top schools.

There’s also no data that he would beat top college teams. When I grew up in Indy, there was a player for the Indians named Champ Summers. He was a triple A all star and a stud with the Indians. And that was his ceiling. McCollum may end up a great coach. But if we hire him, it either means we whiffed on about 8 other coaches or we have poor decision makers. Or both.

And to me, sports and academics aren’t mutually exclusive. It’s just funny to me that professors would think they are important enough to matter. That’s not to say I want Beard. He’s way down on the list for me.
-
Professors are a dime a dozen. Of all the reasons not to hire Beard, what a bunch of professors think isn’t on the list.

The update will be what they read on BTB, X and discord.

Pizza? Let’s work this out. 1) pizza distress changed their name to pizza X 2) X marks the spot 3) situs means spot 4) Brad is our next coach. QED

Cuz you read it. In a book.

I’m here for the Brad memes. Could you take the lawyer talk to the…..lawyer talk thread?

I feel like I’m taking an IQ test when I see your posts. And failing miserably.

Forget IU’s history. Being able to offer a top salary, top NIL, good assistant coach fund….thats attractive. And if there is a top coach who doesn’t want to coach at IU because the expectations are too high, then don’t want him. If anything, our expectations have been too low. No top basketball or football program would put up with the mediocre results we have produced. The situation is set for a coach to come in, make a crap ton of money, and become a coaching legend.

Forgetting inside info, whispers or anything like that (it’s very fun to read this stuff though), I hang my hat on my own bias combined with my business logic. I don’t think there is much of a chance that Dolson got IU and donors to agree that Woodson is gone, but then ends up with a coach that many, if not a majority, of fans say….WTF? I’m not saying it’ll be Stevens. But to say that IU isn’t going to get any of the top tier guys given how this has played out seems….strange. Maybe the big money would be happy with McCollum. Just don’t see it.

In Boston?

My insider says our new coach likes basketball.
-
It 100% may have nothing to do with IU but how many times has he flown to indiana to watch his son? And on a night the team he is VP for plays? I’m not going to research that but I’m guessing not many.
-
This is not a slam on Norman or whoever he spoke with but sometimes, I just chuckle at the “insider” info. The info may be true but just seems weird that someone with knowledge of who is being considered would say, here is who it isn’t, but hey, I’m drawing the line of saying who it might be. Why? If you’re gonna divulge info, divulge info.

Just a guess and not based on anything but Woodson’s “retirement” could very well have been done to stave of an ugly environment at assembly Hall. Now, that would assume that the decision was made that Woodson was gone at the end of the year. As for Stevens, I think Dolson has likely known for quite some time if he is an option. I don’t think Woodson’s retirement has to mean that Dolson has his guy, though.

This is not to relitigate Beard’s issues, but for those with inside sources, are you hearing that Beard is 100% out of consideration or are people speculating that IU wouldn’t consider him? I also find it hard to believe it would him but just seems like he is still brought up a lot.
-
I don’t want a coach who can’t get his team to lead the country in deflections.
-
I’m not much for booing but if he stands there and airs his grievances in senior day, it will show he is simply in it for himself with no regard for IU. And hope he would get boo’d out of the gym. Hopefully, his hangers on will counsel him against that

If Scott is just passing along info he’s been told, I don’t think he’s trolling. If he is, seems like a weird way to do it. But I also don’t put much stock in anything that would come from Woodson. Maybe he’s right. But given his bias and ego, not trustworthy. Having said that McDermott would be great. Comparing him to Alford is silly. And I don’t really care what he did at Iowa State. His teams would be fun to watch and would win a lot of games. But having said thaaaat, he’d be in the second tier for me so let’s get this done.

For those of us who have zero clue (maybe just me), what’s the Florida connection?

Then it will be a little longer before we get a new coach. But that’s a good reason for the delay.
