Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

Fpeaugh’s MO is basically to commit to a well trafficked rumor, hope it turns out true, then say something changed last minute when it doesn’t come to be. Nothing he’s ever been “right” about was ever a truly new piece of info -

No press conference, Stevens just shows up to a sweet 16 game today in IU gear -
Although, if given the choice between giving their basketball coach a larger paycheck or putting gold plated toilets in the football locker room, Bama would seriously consider the toilets
-
Other than IU guys (Woodson, Cheaney), any credible info is almost certainly not coming from IU, but sources outside the program. And any guys that would be legitimately talking to IU and also still in the tournament are most definitely going to be quiet so as not to distract their players.

How much Howard success can be attribute to Phil Martelli, especially since Howard’s recruiting impact hasn’t really come into play yet
-
Also, I'm curious to know when this contact actually happened. Was it in the last few days or was it like a week ago when IU was potentially sending out feelers to 20+ coaches? How many coaches has Texas already reached to through similar back channels?

Or that's additional commentary so his tweet gains more traction.

The worst part with Goodman aren't his primary tweets "breaking" information, which are usually framed in the worst possible light, but that he gets into snarky back and forths with random people that comment on the tweet. -
Cronin had made 9 straight tournament appearances, and has a better resume than a lot of the names being discussed. Cronin would be something like 5th best out of the legitimate candidates people are discussing (after Oats, Beard, Muss, Drew). He might be lower than 5th on my preference list due to style of play, but he was a solid hire for UCLA, light years ahead of Moser
-
Although, if Dolson wasn't the one doing the talking, then IU wasn't seriously considering Holtmann
-
Although, UCLA being able to hire someone the caliber of Cronin after 100 days, and Cronin being able to immediately get 2 decent season at UCLA does indicate that its not the end of the world if IU's search goes longer than people want
-
I'm guessing that IU's contact with Holtmann, Matta, Woodson, Cheaney, and any other name out there is actually pretty routine in a coaching search, but that sort of info generally goes by the wayside as soon as a coach is hired. Its been 11 days since Archie was fired, which isn't an eternity, but at also does provide enough space for those types of stories to percolate and gain traction.

Definitely has the feel of Holtmann throwing his hat into the ring, maybe having minimal talks then saying "nah, I'm good" -

Truthfully, I think this is more about Holtmann maybe trying to leverage more money out of OSU -

Just a heads up, this board is pretty solid, but this topic/thread in particular is about 10% grounded in rational discussion, and about 90% unseriousness and off the rails speculation for laughs and giggles -

Also NBA players do get extra money for being in the playoffs, not a ton compared to their annual earnings, but also not insignificant, especially to younger/lower paid players. So Stevens leaving and causing disruption would have actual tangible effects. -

That's of course that's the most likely scenario, but we are talking about what would make sense if he has decided to come to IU but delay the announcement for whatever reason -

Yep, getting juiced up about Stevens for the next two days is better than letting the pessimism drag on even if there is a let down. -
