  1. Saying 6 years, but no dollar amount released yet
  2. One big thing with Woodson is that his time as an NBA head coach especially with the Knicks will have him WAY more prepared at handle the media scrutiny and remain focused than Miller, Crean, and Davis. And I think he will thrive with all the booster/fan interaction where it was an unpleasant and added distraction for the past guys
  3. Also, while Penny was an absolutely huge star for a few years, injuries really cut his career short, and he had effectively fallen off the map years before current recruits were even born.
  4. Just to put coaching hires into perspective, I did a quick analysis of probably the best major conference hires over the last 25 years (essentially what does a eventually successful hire look like initially). I found 11 guys that have had consistent success and at least 1 final 4 appearance. Of those, only 3 left a major conference job, one of which was Tony Bennett who likely wasn’t going to find consistent success at Wash St. At the end of the day, successful power conference coaches rarely leave their job and/or the transition doesn’t end up being successful. Most its about getting lucky and/or finding the right fit Roy Williams – great resume and was leaving a team just coming off of back to back final 4s. UNC is a elite draw, but Williams past connections to UNC are probably the only way he leaves Kansas Bill Self – At Illinois 3 years, with an elite 8 and sweet 16 appearance. Leaves to take over an elite program that is performing at a high level – no rebuild needed. Izzo – Long time assistant with no head coaching experience Pitino – great resume, but technically unemployed when hired by Louisville after resigning from NBA job Calipari – long head coaching resume, including unsuccessful NBA stint, leaving a very good spot for him (Memphis), although not a power conference team Billy Donovan – left Marshall Jay Wright – left Hofstra Tony Bennett – left Wash St after 3 seasons, but was probably maxing out with one sweet 16 appearance Thad Matta – left Butler Chris Beard – left Little Rock Bo Ryan – left Milwaukee
  5. I think most fans wanted Oats/Musselman more as a flex about stealing another power conference coach rather a real preference based on coaching ability
  6. And the more I’m thinking about, the Matta hire is perfect. His biggest question mark his health/stamina, but his connections for hiring assistants and getting in the door with recruiting will be amazing for Woodson. And it won’t waste an assistant’s time getting Woodson up to speed on the college game, and it will be better an input than a less experienced assistant
  7. Although Musselman also spent more time in the D/G league than the NBA itself. Musselman 9 years in NBA, 3 as HC Woodson 25 years in the NBA, 8 as HC
  8. From the sounds of those texts, it seems like his contacts are more likely “frat bro turned blogger” rather than college basketball insiders
  9. Guessing it may have been about coordinating the Matta arrangement, probably needed an experienced sidekick to make Woodson a feasible option
  10. I feel like a good NBA coach can get a team about a round deeper into the playoffs than their talent/roster would dictate, most through better and more consistent regular season record and therefore better playoff seeding. It’s something, but there is only so much they can do
  11. Minus his first 3 years with Atlanta, he has an almost identical record as Brad Stevens in the NBA. Stevens took over a playoff team and Woodson took over one of the worst teams in the league.
  12. Matta will probably be the one telling Woodson who to recruit
  13. Probably to help Woodson transition to college, and help him navigate and align on recruiting and schematic plans
  14. fpeaugh has already changed his story, now its a Woodson/Matta package deal, hahaha
  15. Private flight from Boston to Indy (Stevens's wife) arrives in 15 min, Brad is just waiting on the tarmac https://flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA706/history/20210328/1627Z/KBED/KIND
  16. And this flight landed 10 minutes before Chronic's tweet
  17. Its back on - private jet from Oklahoma City to Indy which left about 30 minutes before Celtics flight (although different airport) https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N378DB/history/20210328/1500Z/KPWA/KIND
  18. Like I said - potentially cold water
  19. Potentially cold water on the Boston flights, looks like the Celtics are just now leaving OKC
  20. I think flying to Indy rather than Bloomington would make some sense since all the media is there for the tournament, but still of course a long shot
  21. Seems too quick to be Moser. I’m thinking IU may have been ready to announce yesterday but held off because of the women’s game
  22. The alternative scenario I have considered with fpeaugh is that he truly believed these things, but is to dumb to realize that his “sources” are just continually pulling his leg
  23. The story was something along the lines of his source being the person driving Donovan around Bloomington
