  1. Mid-majors that have made the Final 4 in the past 40 years. I would argue that of all these programs and their prior success, May's may be the most worthy. San Diego State (Brian Dutcher ) FAU (Dusty May) Gonzaga (Mark Few) Butler (Brad Stevens) VCU (Shaka Smart) George Mason (Jim Larranaga) Loyola-Chicago (Porter Moser) Wichita State (Gregg Marshall) Utah (Rick Majeris) UMass (John Calipari) UNLV (Jerry Tarkanian) Memphis State (Dana Kirk) (happened to have Penny Hardaway)
  2. In one of the games I was watching earlier this season, the analyst said that every player on FAU's roster could return next season.
  3. I am not overly concerned about Woody missing the show. I am overly concerned that Kenya referenced getting them over the hump.
  4. Not to mention that (1) he is an Indiana kid from a region (the region) where IU has historically lost recruits to Purdue, Michigan, and MSU (2) If we hired May this off-season, Johnell would be IU's starting guard next season. Dolson would be open to it. Woody probably wouldn't. You'd be more likely to get Woody to accept the head of basketball operations gig. If you add Drew, Beard, and Pearl to this year - I think it's the deepest pool we've had to choose from. 2006 - JB had a verbal agreement and staff picked out to coach IU. Then the president stepped in and said they wanted a minority instead which led to Sampson. We haven't landed a commit from a guard in 27 months. Woody yells at players for taking 3's at times, but then doesn't care how many long 2's they take. The reason they are hesitant to take them is because they are afraid of making Woody mad. When you are hesitant to shoot, it makes you a worse shooter.
  5. They will both likely be nabbed up this off season.
  6. Curious, what type of run this post-season, if any, would it take for you to be on the May Train?
  7. Sorry, try this link https://archive.is/kKf2B
  8. Thoughts on the following coach? -Only coached at a mid-major.. -Coached 6 seasons, never made NCAA tourney -Losing record in year 6 Don't like him? Well he is RMK right before we hired him at age 31.. Now compare what May has done... -Became FAU's all-time wins leader in 5 years -Most wins in school history last season (35 wins) (1992 was IU's last 30 win season) -Year 4 got FAU to its highest ever KenPom rating -Year 5 took them to final 4 -Moved up a conference and has been #1 / #2 this season - 52-8 record over the last 2 seasons - Bob Knight said he was the only manager he ever had to yell at for taking too many notes on things he would say during practice -Has won a conference coach of the year and a national coach of the year award - Most conference wins in a single season (18) for C-USA - Has coached under Mike White, RMK, and Mike Davis - While some might say it took him 4 years to really get there.. in year 1 he took FAU to their first winning record in 8 seasons and was a finalist for the Joe Hall award which is given to the best first year D1 coach. Year 2 was another winning record, set the school record for points per game. Year 3 first time in school history for 3 winning seasons in a row. Every fan should have to read the following article before deciding that they don't want Dusty. I am not saying he is a 100% guarantee, but I think if FAU makes a run in the tourney then the fanbase is going to get really loud. https://archive.is/kKf2B
  9. Rabby and I likely got our info from opposite sides of the relationship, but I had my convo many weeks ago. Rabby's is likely more recent. Ultimately, I think if things play out the right way he'll be back, but things seem to be teetering atm more than we would like. The way the season has developed doesn't just have the fans upset. You are starting to see it in the body language of some players too. Play back the OSU game and look at how dejected Gunn looks throughout. Some parents are starting to voice frustrations publicly as well which we are all too familiar with in past tenures. Finishing the season strong will be the best antidote.
  10. I think Leal is back based on need. MM is probably 50/50. Another player I won't name during season is being heavily courted by numerous schools. He isn't super happy with the season and isn't even sure if he is wanted back. Let's just say it would hurt to see him in another jersey.
  11. I agree. I think Woody will get year 4 and to be honest I think it's deserved despite the **** season we are having. With that said, I think there is a higher quantity and quality coaches available now than in any previous time we were looking and I think it is very likely that 4-5 of them would accept pretty quickly. Either way, I hope we load up this off season and hit the Final 4 next year.
  12. We are likely to have 5 open spots at the end of the season. Likely losing more guards than most people expect.
  13. Bart Torvik has a cool feature called TeamCast that lets you project out the rest of the season and see how it affects projected NCAA tournament seeding. Winning out regular season, winning game 1 vs Rutgers, then losing game 2 vs Nebraska would have us as the 6th team left out according to his projections. Losing a lot of games by a lot of points and then barely beating a lot of bad teams is not a good recipe to get into the tourney. https://barttorvik.com/teamcast.php?rank=85&team=Indiana&year=2024&bracket=1&Florida_Gulf_CoastIndiana11-7=A&ArmyIndiana11-12=A&Wright_St_Indiana11-16=A&ConnecticutIndiana11-19=A&IndianaLouisville11-20=A&HarvardIndiana11-26=A&MarylandIndiana12-1=A&IndianaMichigan12-5=A&AuburnIndiana12-9=A&KansasIndiana12-16=A&Morehead_St_Indiana12-19=A&North_AlabamaIndiana12-21=A&Kennesaw_St_Indiana12-29=A&IndianaNebraska1-3=A&Ohio_St_Indiana1-6=A&IndianaRutgers1-9=A&MinnesotaIndiana1-12=A&PurdueIndiana1-16=A&IndianaWisconsin1-19=A&IndianaIllinois1-27=A&IowaIndiana1-30=A&Penn_St_Indiana2-3=A&IndianaOhio_St_2-6=A&IndianaPurdue2-10=W&NorthwesternIndiana2-18=W&NebraskaIndiana2-21=W&IndianaPenn_St_2-24=W&WisconsinIndiana2-27=W&IndianaMaryland3-3=W&IndianaMinnesota3-6=W&Michigan_St_Indiana3-10=W&x1_type=Post&x1_loc=N&x1_team=Rutgers&x1_res=W&x2_type=Post&x2_loc=N&x2_team=Nebraska&x2_res=L&x3_type=&x3_loc=&x3_team=&x3_res=&x4_type=&x4_loc=&x4_team=&x4_res=&x5_type=&x5_loc=&x5_team=&x5_res=
  14. This season we are rated lower (96) on KenPom than any of Archie's seasons (71, 52, 34, 50) and all but Crean's first 2 seasons (209, 138, 82, 9, 3,63, 48, 11, 44). We could win out the rest of our regular season games and win game 1 of the B1G tourney and are still projected to be the #8 team left out. I think many of us are underestimating how bad this season is because we scrapped by a couple come from behind close wins against really bad teams in the non-conference.
  15. Counter argument.. Woody had TJD as a junior and senior while Archie had him as a freshman and sophomore. Year 3 of Woody has been worse than any season in the past 20+ years if you remove year 1 and 2 of Crean's tenure.
  16. Given the context of IU football and our available options, I would say it was an outstanding hire. Cig is 119-35 in his career at 3 schools. Has never had a losing season. His record only improved as he moved a team into division 1 and not only that but he put them into the top 25. Immediately we get a visit from a 5 star QB recruit. Sure time will tell how things pan out, but I would say that given our circumstance as maybe the worst all-time D1 football program, it's a great hire. Question 2: I figured sending it today would be more likely to get read than on the weekend when they will probably receive hundreds more in their inbox. I celebrate the win last night, but what I saw did not change the direction I continue to see this program go.
  17. Just sent this to Dolson and the board of trustees... athldir@indiana.edu bdot@iu.edu --- ----- ----- ----- Hello Mr. Dolson, As a 2009 graduate I wanted to send a quick email on a few different topics. 1. The Cignetti hire was outstanding. I know it took a lot to make that change this off-season, but we all see the changing landscape in college athletics/football and I am proud that you took the initiate to upgrade our program. In addition many of our other athletics teams are competing on a high level and for this you all deserve praise. 2. I saw you behind the bench during a timeout in last nights game. You were genuinely excited that our basketball team was making a comeback in the second half. I am very thankful to have an AD that is so invested in our program and clearly has that same youthful love that I see in so many of our older fans that have previously witnessed a high caliber program. 3. The basketball program is in its worst state since Kelvin Sampson left it in shambles. I am 37 years old and while the program has been a shell of its former self since I can remember, this is the lowest I have ever felt towards our basketball program than I can ever remember. A win last night was a decent pallate cleanser in the micro, but in the macro we see the same issues. I do not believe that Woodson was ultimately your first or even second choice. In fact, I believe you were probably coerced into this hire by other individuals. With that said, while I did not think it was a good hire I did put 100% of my heart behind it. I bought mini-passes and made the 3 hour drive into Bloomington with my 6 year old son more this season than I have any other year. I’ve played basketball my entire life, I even played a year of college basketball until injuries mounted. I’ve coached basketball on a few different levels. I know basketball, as does most of this state. Our brand of basketball is just not inspiring to watch. The results are not good. There are so many red flags with Coach Woodson in terms of statements he makes, adjustments he will not make, and how this team plays and acts. We are at a point right now where our program can not move forward in another directionless season. Next year is not a season on the brink, but a program on the brink. In the same manner that you had to make an professional decision to move on from Coach Allen, I think it’s time to make that same difficult decision for Woody. I support you in this. There are more great candidates available right now than at any other point where IU needed a new leader. Scott Drew, Dusty May, Josh Schertz, Chris Beard, and Bruce Pearl are all wonderful options. When Woody was hired, most of us were blindsided but hopeful. If you were to hire any of the above candidates, there would be a newfound juice to our program just as there is in the football program. I wish you well in the upcoming weeks as I believe things are likely to boil over and become toxic in some ways. However, if you are unable to act soon, I fear that a larger piece of our program and fandom will be lost for good. Thanks for your commitment and time.
  18. So some of you have expressed concern about what happens to our current roster in the off-season if Woody is gone. I offer you this... Every player on FAU's roster, including Johnell Davis, can return next season. If a school hires Dusty May away from FAU this off-season, they could end up inheriting a Final Four experienced roster.
  19. This is also my list just add Drew. Tonagel is one of the best coaches, but he won't be considered. The difference was that Archie's KenPom rating was improving every season, until **** fell off the rails in the last season. Even then though, it was around 50 while this season is at 100.

    The Case for Josh Schertz

Come on now, this is just lazy. Dusty took over a FAU program that has been 200+ in KenPom rating since the day KenPom was created. The year BEFORE he took them to the Final 4, he had them at their all-time high in KenPom. Then he took them to the Final 4 and was a buzzer beater away from the championship game. Then FAU moved up in conference into a very strong AAC. And he has FAU #1 in the AAC and top 25 all season. FAU has 10 winning seasons in history, Dusty has 6 of them (in 6 years). FAU had never had a single digit loss season, Dusty is about to have 2 of them. He built a program out of absolutely nothing. I'd take Dusty or Josh any day of the week.

(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky

Immediate opening? Most expect Cupps to be a 3 year starter at PG once X is gone. With that said, his skillset would allow him to play a combo guard so even if we bring a top 3 PG who starts, Cupps would still see a lot of PT.
  23. LoL that poor girl. I am sure she is just a student, but she has a long ways to go if she wants to make a career out of this. Step 1: remove the gum from your mouth during interviews.
  24. You guys like the color of the shoes he is wearing right now?
