(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
Gnet550 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Am I the only one who listened to that and thought…Tyler the interviewer sounds like the nervous teen and Jakai sounds like a man confident in himself lol. I think Jakai is going to be a ton of fun to watch, that’s for sure. -
Now this sounds like what we need. A stretch big. I’d be all in here

when I looked at the profile I believe it said something in the info about being a 16 year old....my guess is just trying to get his name out there similar to Joe Tipton. -
What site is that?

I also don't understand why he wouldn't come back. If they all 3 come back, then I am rotating those 3, forget Durr who has left. TJD plays the first 10 minutes, Race the first 7 or 8. JG plays the minutes that Race sits, then plays the 4 when TJD goes out and Race shifts to the 5. A rough break down would be 30-32 min a game for TJD, 28-30 for Race, and JG gets those other 20 minutes or so that they are both out.

Engaged early…less than a minute in, 2 blocks -
I’ve seen more than Cupps mention Coach Walsh. I think it’s going to be a seamless transition. He’s been around the program and I’m sure he has a great basketball mind or Woodson wouldn’t have hired him so quickly. Think positive friend!

IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status

Everyone is on Duncomb leaving, maybe some have heard this from sources, but I don’t get it. He came in weak physically, we knew it was going to take a year or two before he was ready to play physically. The suspension was obviously a bump in the road but hopefully he’s figured it out. He is the year 3 and year 4 player at Wisconsin that we all say where did this kid come from…a big who can shoot, this is sooo annoying. I for one hope he sticks around. -
But what happened…much like his senior year, he gets undercut and hurts his wrist/hand area….I don’t think that can be undersold. His hand/wrist were probably never completely healthy the rest of the way. Hopefully he takes some time off and really rehabs that(which he will) and who knows. I’m not saying he’ll shoot 45% from 3, but I could see him get it up to 36-37% which would be respectable.

Earlier in the thread it did say that Woodson reaffirmed the offer to him. We made his top 8, but that doesn’t mean much lol
-
another forward IU had interest in decommiting
-
from his dad….I think we can pump the brakes on him leaving
-
no interested reported but a big that’s skilled
-
Wonder if there is a chance this opens up again with the coaching change at Florida…teammate of JHS
-
I might eat my words but they don’t scare me…we usually play them tough. They don’t play good defense either. Have to score well, but definitely beatable.

2022 General Recruiting Thread (Bball)

That’s tough, but would be interesting. Who knows maybe he and Cupps are really close too, which would help. -
Such a terrible decision to make players follow rules…I mean in society everyone wants to be excluded from them. Might as well make our team be the same…not. How about be mad at the players for a “terrible” decision instead of the coach.

Decommitted from UK. Haven’t heard we are involved but we were linked to him before. I believe if I remember right AJ Moye is close to him, and AJ has been at a few games recently…probably reading way too much into that, but who knows… also don’t know if the current staff reached out to him. Is a teammate of JHS… -

I did see in the hoosiersportsnation forum, there is a poster who is a student. He said when Coen wakes by they chanted “we want Coen” and he said he appeared to love it. Also mentioned that Cupps was there with him. So nothing official but sounds like an impression was made. -
Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

I have never understand why not rotate Kopp and Stewart and start Geronimo at the 3. He is athletic enough to guard SF/wing type, and probably better than Kopp or Stewart can quite honestly. The bigs rotation would be tough if you did this because TJD and Durr can't shoot too far out, but Durr actually showed decent touch. -
IUBB vs Rutgers - 03/02/22 @ 7:00 on BTN

I tell you who concerns me most, and that is Geo Baker....that dude shoots 30% all year, but when he plays Indiana he can't miss. There are certain guys who just seem to play good against certain teams. Baker is the guy that concerns me for them, after the obvious top two Cliff and Harper Jr. -

I’ll agree to start off, the edit job is terrible lol I want this kid too. He too me seems like Jakai. It was said in the Joey Hart thread that he didn’t have that “dog” mentality. This kid and Jakai do, not scared of anyone at any time. There were half of those dunks that when he took off I was thinking, he ain’t dunking that, and then BAM! He doesn’t go soft to the hole!
