No I actually mostly share that sentiment ..I think competition can be subjective .....I meant the parochial schools haven’t dominated in class 4A exclusively and my theory there is the 4A schools have enough kids and thus a big enough talent pool to bridge the recruitment gap. Take Carmel with 5000 kids to pick from and that’s the same as cathedral with 2-3 k plus the ability to try and go out of their district. I will concede I would have loved to have trevon and watched him regularly at Xavier ...he was much more suited size wise to the D1 game than brown is now plus he had an extra 12 on his vertical to boot.

Lol that’s a fair point ! They aren’t as dominant in 4A but if you go back to the initiation of class basketball they have won an astounding number of championships ....I’ll pull the link for you but in 1 and 2 A in particular there is like a 17 year stretch where 3 or 4 schools when every championship

You’re correct ...brebuf is up to 25 k ....if you really wanna be floored check out culver ( success factor moved them from 3 A to 4 A this year ) .....living on campuses is 50K per year per student ....how would ya like that bill with two or three children ? It’s my distinct imprsssion that all the private schools ( cathedral, Bishop custard, black hawk Christian ) CAN offer discounts or paid tuition. I’m not certain if that applies to transfers or if they have to get them from junior high to be exempt....regardless...it allows them to cherry pick outside district ....if culver called my 8th grade daughter and said come to school here for free and play these sports and join these clubs I would drag her straight there every step of the way because it’s an amazing educational opportunity ...hard to turn down

We have a success factor for two years of performance that applies to all teams

Agreed ....best take I have seen on it ...that I think I share ...is that the private schools which can recruit should play one class higher than their attendance and then should still be subject to the bump up success factor every two years...example 1A Blackhawk Christian should always play 2A but if they get enough success points in a two year period they should bump to 3A etc

Now that is something we can definitely agree on. I hate nothing more and strongly feel that’s why less of the top level talent kids have a strong desire to grow up and “play for” a school or coach. The Damon baileys of the world used to dream of going to IU and learning from coach knight ...now the Damon baileys of the world have everyone kissing their rear end starting in sixth grade and they want to know who the highest bidder is and who can get them an endorsement lined up early. It’s sad. I also agree as you saw in my post that we should be looking down on those four schools from a recruiting standpoint. I think what we need is a hybrid system. Duke didn’t win this year with 3 of the top 4 freshman in the country one of which was generational ...they couldn’t win and honestly we can’t compete to expect that type of singing annually. It seems like we still try though and expect it to work and more often than not we end up with a team full of second choices that still have the sense of entitlement the first choices do. I would like to see us sign 10-11 3 or 4 year playeras a la wisky nd pu butler and then use the clout we still have to pick up the best Indiana or mid west players either annually or semi annually knowing we have them for a year or two only but their talent can push us past the mid tier. we never had culture or leadership problems with three and four year guys like bailey Henderson nover graham Evans Coverdale fife etc ...get that system back running and when you throw in an occasional Romeo I don’t think that built culture will allow it to look Iike a trainwreck.

Agree with you big time there ...I think Furst will be a solid four year horse

Count me in with that approach I just don’t see any harm or cost to something as simple as a salutation that would go a long long way

At Luke’s current size I wouldn’t offer him right now at all ....I don’t advocate an offer ...I advocate contact in case he develops physically

    1. I’ve always been an IU fan ...I could find other places to talk about Luke brown. I want him at IU. 2. I only post here because it’s the only one I’m interested in posting in...why ? Because I don’t like talking about or debating things I don’t feel I’m knowledgeable about. I have seen every high school game Luke has played and several non high school games. Ive watched workouts he does, I’ve played in a rec league with him and against him. I fee qualified to competently evaluate and discuss His game and his character. I’m not qualified to do the same with the other recruits you mentioned 2(b). It’s interesting you mention Kaufman, have you seen any of the Indiana elite platinum games ? He and Luke are teammates and the team has only lost Two games ...Luke has been performing as well as Trey in general and has helped carry them through games trey was out with wrist injury. 3. If he wanted to stay closer to home ( watford ) there are clean schools close to home that are just as or more competitive. 4. If our recruiting is fine why do we have less tournament appearances and less tournament wins then butler Notre Dame Wisconsin and Purdue ( close with Iowa ) over the last two decades ? These are the teams that should be looking up to us and taking our scraps. There is a reasons kids “ just don’t WANT to go to IU anymore “. They are few and far between I agree with you there but there are actually D1 talent kids WITH heart who care more about winning ( wherever they are ) than furthering their personal interests.

It’s not rude to disagree with someone ...I don’t take it personally at all...for debates sake, why don’t you want to be like them from a recruiting standpoint?

I haven’t found losing the majority of the last two decades funny. I certainly haven’t found programs below our weight class out performing us year after year funny. Go back and list your ten favorite IU players and I guarantee you more than half are gamer gym rats who stayed at least 3 years and played with teammates who were the same way. Those were always our successful teams man. I’m sick or chasing the kids who end up going to the higher bidder or if we do convince them they act like they are doing us a favor showing up on game day. I’m sick of discipline problems and lack of team leadership. You can’t tell me with the exception of the oladipo watford hulls sheehy Ferrell and zeller team ( which still didn’t turn out how it should ) you’ve felt like we had an “iu “ type team can you ?

That’s exactly the attitude that has caused us to have one or two successful seasons ( by our standards ) in the last 20 years. I’m not related to the kid and I’m not really close to them. Didn’t know them before they moved to Blackford. I do only post here because it’s the only topic that interests me and I also believe this is where you should post ABOUT Luke brown or at least that’s the title of the page. Don’t worry I won’t do it on others. His play IS doing the talking. The problem is our recruiting mentality ( fans and staff ). Go back to the threads for watford. Most people thought his dad was basically calling him a Hoosier. He’s a super talented kid I don’t blame us for wanting him but look at the decision to go to LSU. I don’t know you, but if you were a stud athlete , and got an offer from a place that literally is in the middle of a pay for play scandal ( with audio evidence ) would you really go play there ? If you aren’t being paid ?...would your parents be ok with you going there knowing how that could effect your reputation ? I don’t know the watfords but to me that’s an example of a “ non- program kid” a kid that wants what’s best for him ...a kid that wants to promote himself and get to the next level as fast and best he can. Do i blame someone for that ? Absolutely not, good for them and handle their business how they see fit, but is that the type we should be fighting and wasting resources for recruiting on ? Absolutely not ...they don’t end up helping the program long term and they often don’t even make a huge impact short term. until the mentality changes and we build like the Wisconsin’s and Purdue’s and Notre dames of the world, taking 3-4 year program guys while occasionally stealing an Indiana five star player for talent to push ya over the top, we are gonna be stuck in limbo. If Luke doesn’t grow anymore it will be tough for him to play power 5 defense and if that’s the case it will be a shame but even in that instance my point was he is the type of kid you want. Someone that WANTS to come to your school , not someone that you have to beg or consider paying. Someone that wants to put in the work and hates losing more than anything in the world. Someone willing to literally bleed to improve the program. If he doesn’t grow, he may not work , but I still want kids LIKE him. Let the guys who pay players get the guys who have their hearts 50% in it. If Luke does grow you’ll look me up and tell me I was right.

As long as he fills out and can not be a total liability in the defensive end

If IU called and asked him to come even visit I think he’d be committed unless the eventual offer was “ you can have a spot but you aren’t likely to play at all your first two years “

Fair enough ...my comment was more to mentality and mental make up. Program type kids.

By far my favorite part about him...it’s not an act either. when they first got to town I was skeptical of his skill set ( even after videos) until I attended the summer camps and saw him in person and he IMMEDIATELY stood out even at a very thin 5’10”. I expected him to be a total prick with his talent and coming from out of town and that couldn’t have been further from the truth. I was concerned it was for show but he has just given example after example of being the exact type of kid you want around your program. He is a fiery leader who isn’t afraid to jump on another kid but he won’t tear them down doing it. He visits elderly people in the hospital, he takes pictures with little kids, he talks to the lowest freshman on the team like they are varsity starters and I’ve never seen a human being put so much time and effort into perfecting a skill set. He is obsessed with getting better and it’s insatiable. You will never have to worry about him continuing to work so I feel he will be a safe bet as long as he continues to add size. By junior or senior year or college mark my words he will be in sports center top 10 at least twice for passes. He is playing at the highest level of aau for class 2021 and he has arguably lead the team to a 6-2 record where they haven’t had Kaufman from silver creek for several games. He’s a gamer.
