I could see that aspect when talking about a 2019-2021 recruit but it's not like he's going to say "Wow, Romeo really shriveled under the pressure in that big sectional game and laid an egg. I think I'll withdraw our offer". I mean he's a top-5 national recruit. Not trying to be argumentative, I just think his recruitment is way beyond the "game analysis" level. Don't crucify me here but I have a question. Why does it matter if Archie went tonight versus tomorrow night? At this point isn't it totally about massaging Romeo's ego? It's not like Archie needs to evaluate his game to see if he really wants him. The only benefit I see to being present in the gym tomorrow night over tonight is having IU associated with the charged atmosphere. I get that Archie was watching KBJr tonight but I'm not seeing the "this game over that game" idea as it pertains to Romeo's recruitment. I might be missing something here, however. I think Archie will be the one who can bring the fan base back together with or without Knight, mainly because of what RMK stated....he can coach. I have mixed feelings about this. My initial thought was why wouldn't he want this job? It's arguably a top 10 job, the peripheral stuff notwithstanding. But just a few moments more thought into it made me think he should run for the hills if they offered it. He would be following a legend, dirty or not. If you've read "Following the General" you can easily see the traps in that. As Steve Alford said, I would think Dane wouldn't want to replace Izzo, he would want to be the one who replaces the one who replaced Izzo. That thought has a lot of merit. Finally, a jump to MSU HC when his last HC job was at Ft Wayne would come with several built-in concerns, mainly fighting an uphill battle from jump street because so many fans will automatically feel like he isn't qualified. That would be a really tough spot for him but I would root for him to succeed every step of the way....well, except for a couple games a year against his alma mater...... Seems to me the handwriting should be on the wall. I won't be at all surprised if Izzo decides to retire after the season. He is 63 but as someone else mentioned, he looks like he's aged 10 years in the past 6 months. I'm sure if this was just pure basketball and he didn't have to deal with all these other issues he could coach for another decade. Now? Not so much. I hate to see talented people get dragged into a situation where their talents can't be utilized. I feel that Sean is a very talented coach. I feel the exact same way about Archie. I think they could do more with a little less talented player. It's a shame to see that it's likely about to be thrown away. Bummer. Plus, I really wanted to see a home & home with UA. Ok, you guys have got me roped in. I generally only read historical nonfiction. Just finished "The Oregon Trail" by Rinker Buck. About two brothers who decide to travel the 2000 miles across the trail in a covered wagon. Good mix of history of the trail and documenting their trip. The fact they have narrowly skirted it a few times is exactly why I was surprised to see any of them obviously worried or mentioning Cal being gone. I would think they would be brazen at this point and the fan base would be thumbing their collective nose at the whole investigation. I've had a bunch of time to visit some of the fan sites of a couple of the schools named in the yahoo release, namely UK and KU. There is shockingly a dearth of information compared to on this site. It seems like the fan bases are deluded by thinking that Cal and Self couldn't be involved. Others are dismissive of the issues, saying things like "Well, it's possible (or probable) that the coaches knew nothing about any of this". Really? I will say, however, that there are a few fans who seem to genuinely nervous about all this. One UK can even spoke the unmentionable...if Calipari is involved he needs to go (gasp!). Makes we wonder if they are adopting the approach that 1) if we don't talk about it, it will go away...or 2) we are (insert school name here) and the NCAA needs us so we will come out smelling like roses and (insert other school name here) will be exposed as the cheaters and frauds they are.
