99% of schools don't always get their top targets. Every year a bunch of schools are recruiting all of the top 5 players very hard. Kansas, UNC, Arizona, pretty much everyone outside of Duke and Kentucky swing and miss on those guys all the time. When you recruit good players, it's going to be competitive. If we got our top target every year, we aren't recruiting a high enough caliber of player. We could recruit 3-star guys and land our top target every single year probably, but Archie is fighting for recruits that we're competitive for because that's the way to get the best players. And the nature of real competition is that you don't always win. It's the nature of sport itself.

This is just ignorant. Penny was one of the biggest stars of his era just like Grant Hill and injuries shortened his career just like Grant Hill. Before that, he had a great NBA career which included a trip to the Finals. It just sounds stupid to say he never exceeded expectations like he was expected to be drafted 3rd overall out of high school. He wasn't. And Archie hasn't won a championship at the collegiate or NBA level either btw. Never mind all that anyway because it could just as easily be Penny's personality that draws kids or something else. Who cares? I hope Lester chooses us, if he goes to Memphis or elsewhere I hope he does well but I don't care why and none of us will ever really know why anyway

Royce White was a 5* coming out of high school, I believe, and was originally at Minnesota. Jameel Mckay was from Marquette. Korie Luscious was from Michigan State. Will Clyburn from Utah. A lot of those guys were 5* or high 4* guys coming out of high school. He was able to get those guys at ISU because a lot of schools weren't recruiting transfers. Maybe he has identified a bunch of hidden gems in these guys he just got at Nebraska but at a glance it's a much different level of talent than he was able to get off of the transfer market at ISU because he popularized recruiting transfers throughout the sport. He could be a better coach than I think, and I think he's good, and win anyway but he has a tough build ahead of him I think.

Maybe, but will it be enough to get Nebraska a tournament win? He's getting a much lower caliber of transfer than he was when he founded Transfer U at ISU, since most major coaches didn't really consider transfers... but now UNC and UK are taking the top transfers off the market and the best incoming freshmen so the transfer market is as competitive as regular recruiting and Nebraska has relatively similar pull. Hoiberg was getting transfers from high majors at ISU, I don't think any of the guys he has brought in at Nebraska come from high majors unless I missed one. I think he's a good coach so I see him outperforming his talent a bit but I don't think he'll reach the highs he did at ISU.

Christian is not Trendon and Trendon is not Christian. Anyone with a sibling knows they can't read your mind or perfectly represent your views even if you are very close. All that being said he may just be retweeting someone because they said anything positive about his brother. They're talking about how good he is. Mentioning that he could potentially leave after one year just contextualizes HOW good he is as that's a rarefied tier. Or maybe Christian knows who runs the account and is trying to push views to the platform. Could be anything. And no matter what it is Christian is not his brother. You have to really twist yourself into knots to take a tweet written by someone else, retweeted by a recruit's brother for unknown reasons, and take that to imply something negative about the recruit himself. It's powerfully ridiculous.

It's not even a tweet he wrote, how in the world does that reflect upon Trendon in any way, shape, or form?

Most NBA players don't make much of an impact their first few years no matter how long they spent in college

He's been in the league for 7 years which means he's almost certainly been practicing and working on becoming a better basketball player for 50 or 60 hours per week. If he was capable of developing a shot, it would've happened by now. People can't see hand-eye coordination like they can length or height but people have maximum potential there just like in physical categories. I say all of that to say that I've never heard of MCW not being a hard worker so it looks like he's maximizing his potential. I didn't say Boeheim said anything outrageous, but I thought he was wrong at the time and still think he's wrong in hindsight. The point was that reasonable basketball minds frequently disagree on players.

5 upperclassmen and Romeo. I don't think people have caught on to how good Romeo will be at the next level, he's going to be a stud in a more spacious game

He didn't live up to his draft position but he has been in the league for seven years which is well over the average length of an NBA career. He certainly didn't leave college too early, staying wasn't going to make him anymore capable of becoming an NBA all-star. He's just not special enough physically at that level. He might "only" make 20 or 30 million in his career but I know I wouldn't consider that a failure, personally.

Excuse me, but where in the rule does it say anything about top 100 players only? And you had better believe the NBA casts a much, much, much broader net to find their players than the top 100 NCAA and international players. The idea that scouts find this process annoying doesn't reflect any conversation I've ever had with a scout. It's also ridiculous to think that they're going to get the same advice from Archie that they'd get from the league just because we know Archie is a quality coach. They might, they might not. Put a quality player in front of ten quality coaches and they are going to have some different opinions as coaching philosophies obviously vary. Boeheim, a quality coach, thought Michael Carter-Williams wasn't ready for the NBA... Carter-Williams is in his 7th season in the league now. So there's some evidence that a quality coach might disagree with other quality coaching assessments, if you needed any.

Based on what? He wouldn't be an elite athlete at the NBA level but he does have the athleticism to play guard in the NBA. His skills aren't at a high enough level yet, but an offseason of mercurial growth is not out of the realm of possibility for any player as much as this board loves being negative. Obviously Buddy Hield was a superior college player to Devonte(he was B12 POY as a junior before returning for his senior year), but even a top line player can have an explosive summer of growth. Maybe hearing from NBA scouts will motivate Devonte more and he'll have his best summer yet. Maybe he would've done that anyway. Maybe it doesn't happen. In any case I don't think talking to some teams and maybe working out in a few open gyms with some NBA guys is going to be a negative.

You have to be desperate to take shots at a kid to complain about stuff like this. He wants to play in the NBA, hearing from prospective employers only makes sense. It's really that simple. Declaring isn't "taking advantage of the system," either, it's using the process as it is designed - to gather feedback and make an informed decision on remaining in the draft or returning to school. No one knows what Archie is telling Devonte and no one can say whether NBA scouts would have the same critiques. Jim Boeheim said Michael Carter-Williams wasn't ready to go pro but last I checked he's still in the league so saying any person that knows anything about basketball would give him the same advice is foolish. You can find coaches or scouts or GMs or other basketball people that disagree about this or that player. Devonte doesn't have the game to make the league right now but there is nothing wrong with exploring the process to get an idea of how the league he wants to work his way into views him. People are really searching for an issue where there just isn't one.

Only as absurd as pretending once players return the chemistry automatically comes back as soon as they do but maybe from the perspective of an armchair general it makes sense Double digit isn't anywhere near De'Ron's typical minutes load but suuuuure 10mpg is a meaningful line to draw and not one that just makes your bad faith argument look better lol

Many of which include very low minutes totals as he was working his way back into shape and Archie notably mentioned that De'Ron came back too soon but hey playing 5 minutes seems to be equivalent to being available for 25 minutes so long as he "played." Anymore cherry picked stats?

De'ron came back during that 6-2 stretch, which also included Devonte being back from suspension. But sure injuries and absences don't mean anything.

I don't see how a slow start necessarily means a lack of preparation, that's just one of many, many possibilities. Could've just as easily been a lack of sleep for one or more key players or a breakup or family issue or something totally unrelated to basketball. It could be nerves. It could be anything. I get why there can be a drive to fill in the blanks sometimes on things we don't know - like the gross Romeo rumor - but the wild speculation doesn't actually get us any closer to understanding anything meaningful even if it might feel that way.

Injuries can have a cumulative effect. That we were able to overcome them in some instances doesn't make it an excuse. Playing more minutes than usual, playing outside of your normal role, getting scoring from further down the bench... sure it can work sometimes. Sometimes a player like Justin Smith will hit 3 threes and post a career high and you can beat MSU without all of your players but that's not a sustainable formula and it's not on the coach if they can't keep bottling lightning over and over.

Even if that's true it leaves the fact that it's an immature way to present yourself and should be discouraged among our fan base for that reason alone even if it never impacts recruiting. If #IUBB wants to be seen as special establishing some community standards would help.

You're joking but people really should think more about what they're putting out there about these kids. Not only because it impacts how Indiana basketball is perceived in the world by players, fans, and other relevant parties but also because it's just a crappy thing to do to question these kids' character because they make a decision that you don't like. We don't know why he canceled this visit, it could've been a real emergency and the way some of our fans reacted was disappointing.
