Any alternatives to Dakich??????
Buck Naked replied to Buck Naked's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
@dandakich: Coaches know .. Ya gotta get thru Halloween!! Said this on his show this week. While he may be right, he posted that minutes after he news came out. Seemed kind of poor taste. He runs his jackass mouth to be the "crazy shock jock that people love to hate" and he step on his you-know-what in my opinion. The act just gets old. And I don't believe his apology he posted AFTER Deadspin posted his tweet. -
Devin Davis injured/Emmitt Holt cited for DUI
Buck Naked replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree, this is probably a freak accident, but in light of the past year, it looks different. In response to the 30 wins and no one complains, I'll spin it different just to stir the pot: If this incident would have happened at Purdue or Kentucky, would there be this many IU fans giving the " all college kids drink, there's nothing to see here"? Or would they be destroying Painter and Cal of lack of control? -

Five words- Kick. Him. Off. The. Team. Want to let him "work his way back", whatever. But I don't call suspending one game severe. Oh, I'm sure Crean had him do other things, but the only thing these guys understand is taking away the only thing they love, playing ball. Crean is limited, and forcing all the players to live on campus this year is a start. But unchecked questionable behavior can be a cancer in any organization. -

Not to nitpick, but using your logic that Crean addressed it all tells me he has lost control. Once again, I LIKE CREAN AND WANT HIM TO BE OUR COACH. I just disagree with the way he handled Hanner and I think it may have snowballed from there. -

Understand and complete agree. My daughter had planned on playing golf in college but the workload would have been too much for her. My point, pre-rant, was that if Hanner or who ever, wouldn't end up in some flop house because he missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime. He earned that opportunity but these guys need to be made aware that there are consequences to actions. To whom much is given, much is expected. -

Oh the poor athlete. Don't give me this crap. I am a father of a daughter that has carried. 4.0 her entire school career and now she is a soph in college going for nursing still carrying that 4.0. She has to work and scrape for every dollar to pay for her college. Busted her but all her life to go to a local state school. So, I'm suppose to feel sorry for an athlete at a major university that can't stay out of trouble? All they have to do is keep their nose clean and play ball. That's it. And 4 of them can't do that. I'm going to skip Barbara Hershey's speech in Hoosiers, but after watching my daughter work her whole life it's hard for me not do demean an athlete that can't appreciate a full ride to one of he top universities in the country because he can play ball. -

I think we are on the same page here. Drinking and driving IS the biggest issue and that is a personal decision. But we were all young and invincible. We all though, and maybe still do, think that it won't happen to me. Just saying that they need something tangible to be taken away. Something that they understand and the only thing they understand is playing basketball. -

Is it? Will the world miss another sports management major? Will he end up living under a bridge because he didn't get his sports management degree? If it is laid on the table during recruiting that behavior like this won't be tolerated and can result in loss of scholarship people may think and act different. Boot one kid, just one, kids might think and act a little different. And I want it said, I am NOT. A Crean hater. I want him to succeed. I like him. I just think he has handled these incidents wrong. -

Anything CAN happen, but if players knew there was a chance they would be off the team and lose a scholarship as opposed to sitting one game and running laps, maybe one of these 4 that have been busted for drinking would think twice. -

What, for like one game? I'm talking off the team. Earn your way back. He was slapped on the wrist. We all know it, just some are wearing crimson colored glasses and want to win. Drinking and driving KILLS! And everyone can say .02 is nothing to justify an IU player drinking underage, it is illegal and now someone was hurt. -

First and foremost, my prayers for Devin. Second, underage drinking isn't a character issue. My problem with Crean on this is he never made the players accountable. Hanner should have been suspended at least, period. He basically got away with it. Same for Yogi and Stan. This "handling in house crap" is just that. Make the kid run extra laps and forget it. If the players saw REAL punishment to Hanner things may have been different. -
I do understand underage kids drink, I'm not stupid. But all 3 were busted during the season, within weeks of each other. One was busted right before a game with IU's biggest rival, and one was a leader and leading scorer. And your gonna tell me that Crean can keep a kid that trouble seems to follow in line? I'm not that desperate to win. Let someone else have the headache.

Like Hanner, Yogi and Stan?

Good Lord I hope Coach Crean has enough sense to stay away from this guy. Just look at his past. A lot of, let's say, controversy follows this guy. Might not be all his fault, I guess, but if it keeps happening to him some of it has to be of his own doing. Do we really need distractions on a team that was kinda dysfunctional off the court last year?

Favorite IUBB team of all time
Buck Naked replied to coachmayhew's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
92-93 team hands down. That team was as good as any team at IU except for the 74-76 years. Explosive. And being an Evansville native, watching our guy Calbert own the Big Ten was awesome. I still remember Mike Blake reporting " late news coming out of Bloomington" that Henderson had hurt his knee. Heartbreaking. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -
This Started It All for Me
Buck Naked replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Awesome thread! My dad is who got me into IU. When he first got out of the service he watched a lot of Purdue. He went to HS with Bob Ford and really like watching Rick Mount. Then when Coach Knight was hired at IU he was all in. My first very vague memories are of IU in the '75 tourney. (I was born in '69). The first team I really got into was the '81 team. I remember watching the final game with our pastor and his wife, who are UK fans. My dad stayed cool and calm until they left. I remember him shutting the door, then turning to me and jumped up and down and giving me five. He's gone now, but the one thing that gives me a smile is knowing he passed away a couple weeks after Samscum was fired. He had sworn off IU basketball, as did I, as long as that man was in charge. My last great memory with him is sitting in the hospital watching the Northwestern game with him right after Dakich took over. He died knowing that the cheater was gone and thinking that things were going back to the way things were. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -
Assembly Hall = 34th best college stadium? SAY WHAT?!?
Buck Naked replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So basically, according to the author, The Assembly Hall is #34 because of the food and access. Well, I can't disagree about the access part, but I'd rather not go to a basketball game with a bunch of folks whose only concern is can I get some exotic food at the game. The Assembly Hall is what college basketball SHOULD be about. On campus, largest student section in the country, knowledgeable fan base, not sponsored by a local food company/department store, and full of history. You can have the YUM! Center, Kohl's Center, FedEx Forum, whatever. Give me The Assembly Hall anyday. One trip and you will know that that whole article was BS. In other news: Mackey was #96 -
Where did I attack your character? I asked a question of which you still haven't answered but did a nice little tirade on me instead.
Sorry it took so long to reply. I've been at work and my Internet time is limited. I honestly have decided not to defend myself to you. Or to anybody else in this bulletin board. I know who I am, I answer to God, that's all I need to say. My life will not be summed up in a couple sentences I put on Internet bulletin board just defending the right to free speech. If you would like to discuss the topic of free-speech and political correctness gone amok in our society, if you would like to start another topic in another forum, I would be more happy to discuss it with you. But let's do the mods a favor here and keep this on Indiana basketball. Believe it or not I come to this place to get away from crap like this. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
I'm really confused by this statement. Are you saying that your posting is not a reflection of who you are? If this is so it seems like it would be difficult to consistently post in a manner in which is not natural to your personality. How do you pull that off and why do it?
Oh good Lord! Looks like I have to explain myself. I was trying to attack the people who are equate the word rape with the N-word. The N-word is a vile disgusting word used only in hate. The word rape can be used in many different context. For people demanding ESPN fire Coach Knight or issue an apology because he use the word rape is ridiculous. If Sting uses the word rape as in people are raping the Amazon forest everybody will be jumping up-and-down and cheering him. But Coach Knight said the word rape so everybody comes out and attacked him. I can use the word rate even though I am not a female nor a rape victim. There is an alternate definition of such in the dictionary. And to attack my character because I believe what I believe without you getting to know me is way below the belt and I thought this board was way above that. You can agree or disagree with my opinion but attacking my character is totally wrong. Maybe if this board is so happy with this kind of character assassinations of its members maybe I need to move on. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Ok, let me get this straight: the word "rape" is the new "n" word. Only women and victims of rape can use it, even though the word can be use in other than describing a sexual crime. Got it. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
